I will not spend another dime to lose weight!

Hello all,

I am very thankful to find this delightful FREE forum for those wishing to lose weight. I am so tired of being fat. I am even more tired of being suckered into buying books, pills, programs and subscriptions only to find that I really already know how to lose weight on my own...eat less, exercise more, willpower, determination, and most importantly support.

I'm almost 43, I have 2 awesome sons and a great husband of 18 years. I can't believe he's stuck by me in the last several years after gaining well over 100 pounds.
I haven't really even tried to diet in the last 3 years. Last time I did lose weight it was with phentermine, and it almost killed me. I became addicted to them and they really screwed with my mind. I became almost psychotic. I quite taking them cold turkey, dumped the remaining down the toilet, and decided being fat was better than my state of mind.

Anyway, here I am weighing somewhere around 320 pounds, (I was at 170 when I threw away the pills) My scale only goes to 305, so I'm only guessing. I'm 5'7" and wear a size 28 shirt (3 X) and size 26W (Lane Bryant) Jean.

I hate being a newbie, I wish I was on post 500 ranting about my 101 pounds gone...LOL

I started today with a homemade version of Weight Watchers in a low carb/ 1200 cal/day version. I know carbs (and alcohol) are my biggest problems for I have a huge beer belly & butt!

Wish me luck, and I hope to get to know you all on a more personal level.

Thanks for reading

hi and welcome.well done for dumping those pills. from what ive read they can be quite dangerous.
this is a great forum, and has really helped keep me motivated. have a read around lots of tips, advice and motivating success stories. i too am a carb addict - the unhealthy kind. crisps, crisps and more crisps - in fact anything savoury. i did a low carb diet years ago, didnt suit me personally (it maybe different for you) and i found that when i reintroduced more carbs the weight piled straight back on.
my only advice is that your calories seem a bit low. try posting on the harsh truth section, giving your stats, example of your diet and exercise plan. you will get more "expert" advice. slim

Yes, you're rigth. We are fooled to spend lots of money to lose weight... but nothing matters, cause no one else or anything else can loose weight for you, you are the only one who can do it. keep the money for giving yourself gifts on your journey instead :) Good luck for you and wellcome

Thanks for the welcomes. I really don't mean low carb as in the "Adkins" diet. I mean lower carb as in not a loaf of bread a day...LOL I just found out I'm gluten intolerant and wheat is a big reason for most of my health issues.

There are a lot of healthy carb choices out there to replaced my beloved bread and flour fixes. I just don't want to get caught up downing tons of white rice or white potatoes to replace my bread fixes.

Thanks again

peppridge farm seedless rye is very good... I eat that...
and I eat white pot once in a while ...
a little dopple...
sweet pot is better for you

you don't have to cut all the carbs out ..some are really good for you .. I have lost more weight adding some low carbs ..than having no carbs ...

best wishes

Welcome to the forum. I have found tons of support and advice here. I'm sure you will find the same. Have you considered starting a journal? (or have you already?) Its a great place to get to know others and for others to get to know you and to give tons of support. I have also found it to be great for me to just have a release for my thoughts and feelings.

Good luck on your journey

i have a problem with certain carbs, the cheap white kind especially the bread. it would bloat me right out and involve frequent urgent trips to the loo. since i stopped eating "white" carbs(unless i have nothing else) and started eating brown rice and pasta, w/meal bread/bagels/pita etc i have far less trouble.
trouble is i could eat a good half a bag of pasta with sauce with no probs (drools). now i measure out my portion it looks really measly and pathetic. so what i do is i add a ton of (frozen) veg at the end of the cooking which really helps bulk it out, then my protein, herbs and tomato sauce and its not a bad meal. slim

Good for you

Congrats on dumping the phentermine. That is an issue I have also struggled with. Acutally reading your post I feel pretty guilty.

History: I have been struggling with weight and have tried and tried to lose it the healthy way. I had a pretty successful couple of years and found myself pretty close to my target goal, but just recently I have started working on my MA degree. With working full-time, studying and spending time with my family I have slowly started to fall off track. I try to stay consist with my workouts, but it all seems VERY OVERWHELMING!

Just yesterday I went to the doctor and got a prescription of phentermine. I'm just feeling so desperate!!!:(

Your accurate on your weight..
Because I weighed 320 pounds about and fit into a size 26 pants at Lane Bryant. And as far as a size 26/ 28 shirt size that sounds about right too ...

When I was that weight, thats the size I was wearing ..

You can do it hun!
I began small and now I myself am on my way

I am only down to a size 24, but it is something

and I am down to a size 18/20 shirt ...
so believe me ..you can do it!

WE will be right here supporting you ...
best wishes
always

You may want to start a diary...

you will get visitors in your diary ..we listen ...we write messages back ..
this is trully an awesome place ..

best wishes

I like your attitude! It helps, I think, to have a sense of humor. I'll look forward to seeing your on the board as we chart our progress over the coming months (or years, as the case may be).
