I will not mince words - I AM A FATTY! *SOB*

Hey! My name's Bryan! Pleasure to meet'cha!

My fitness journey kind of started, like, 4 years ago to impress a girl, right? I wanted to get in good shape because we were going to be apart for, like, 6 months. And, well, I lost, like 70 lbs in 6 months.

My avatar is from when I was my healthiest (not my thinnest) and my signature contains a picture from my heaviest - 250lbs.

I haven't gained it ALL back. I got down to 180, and was lookin' pretty fly, but I wanted to know if anyone actually knows if fat cells have a memory.

I had read, at one point, that they did. And I've been hard pressed to change my mind. But I wanted to make sure that my opinion was being reinforced by fact.

I know that anatomically fat cells do not shrink, per se, they are like balloons that inflate and then stretch.

I also have read that there is a chemical in the body that is triggered when rapid, and fast fat loss takes place.

Is this true?!

I think that the reason for the "yo-yo" effect is due to the hormonal imbalances. I would advice you to get a consultation by doctor.

Yes, fat cells do have a "memory." This is why people who were obese as children struggle with weight issues and have to work harder on their bodies than people who were slim as children. Scientists are working on a way to stop the cells from telling our brains we need more food. Meanwhile, we have to keep ourselves slim with extra effort. :)
