Huge congrats on the weight loss so far!

How did you start out when you were 750? Curious.

well i didnt want to start thats for sure lol but my grandfather started parking at the back of the parking lots where ever we would go which forced me to walk alot and i hated it lol...

i would say the first 100 pounds were forced off and when i went to the hospital about 9 months ago in diabetic shock it woke me up...they told me i should have died my sugars were almost 700 and they diognoced me with Diabetes.....i weighed 620 then in august...since then i have dieted and excercised and lost 120 pounds and am at 500-499 mark right now i go to the gym every day and keep my calories under 1000 a day (well at least i try) sometimes i do screw up but thats why i am here i get married may 2 its just a short month away and i would love to be 475....i know you prolly heard this before but i am not your average fat man lol, i am very athletic and burn any where from 400 to 900 calories evry work out just depending on how hard i push myself....

oh and i forgot to mention i have reversed the diabetes and no longer have it....i did it by eating right and excercising every day

wow

congrats on everything - your wedding, your weight loss, and reversing the diabetes thru nutrition and exercise! you're an inspiration, best wishes to u :)

Is your diet medically prescribed?

not medically prescribed but God ordained lol i met a pastor where i am at who with the help of a soft hearted trainer lost 185 pounds in ten months we now have a program called license to loose and a local world gym gives great discounts to who ever sign up underneathe us....its not an easy diet but i know its working my results are awsome...but like i say i am only human and need support

Any diet that has someone your size on that low calories is going to "work" in the sense you're losing weight.

I just don't find that sort of intake safe or applicable to most.

yeah alot of people make a big deal about it whats wrong with it...im not extremely educated on it but i do know that if i take in more than my 1000 i gain weight and its fairly easy for me to maintain the one thousand well i wont say easy but its do-able

There's no humanly way if you eat above 1000 calories you gain weight. To maintain someone your size takes an enormous amount of food. You could get away with eating 3000 calories per day and still lose weight.

Losing too quickly tends not to 'stick' as much. Sometimes it works for a select few but often times people who take it off fast also gain it back for whatever reason.

I think losing weight too quickly tends to negatively impact excess skin. Sure, there's more to skin elasticity than rate of weight loss.... but it's still not a risk I'd toy with.

Someone your size requires a lot of nutrition. It's hard to meet your nutritional requirements eating so few calories. It's not just about weight loss. It's about total health.

Also, losing too quickly has been linked to things like gallstones.

It's simply not necessary.

so what do you suggest keep in mind i will talk to my trainer and he might say your full of it lol but i really am trying to do the right thing i have been doing the 1000 for about 9 months now and i have done well, but lemme know

LOL...first off I want to say congrats on loosing the weight youve lost.

However, I also want to say that IF you find someone that says Steve is full of sh*t...please do yourself a favor and "run for the hills" so to speak. Steve is probably one of the best people to get advice from. He's full of knowledge, yes, full of himself, sometimes (j/k) but full of sh*t, no.
I won't even tell you what I think about the 1000cal diet because Steve has already said it all and I'm sure can say more...so keep up the good work and congrats on trying to change your life around for the better, but be healthy minded :) and welcome to the forum.

What sort of trainer is this? No trainer I've ever met is qualified to write nutrition plans that really call for medical oversight, which would be the case with you.

I'm not saying you need a hospital. But at the very least a dietetic.

I've worked with a lot of super-obese people in my time and theoretically, it's outside the scope of my practice. But I was the last thing they could or would turn to and some boundaries are made to be crossed.

But that's all meaningless relative to this conversation. If your trainer says I'm full of it, I'd like to see him come here and discuss the topic with me. You might be surprised how little he actually knows.

What are you eating each day?

To add, I'm very happy to see you're not getting defensive here. It says a lot about you and your intentions. You simply want to improve and you will with this sort of attitude.

From my perspective, this is about establishing habits that you'll be able to maintain for life. I know small women who can't maintain 1000 calories per day for a month, let alone for life. And they're only a fraction of your total weight.

Do you plan on eating like a bird for the remainder of your life?

I've seen many cases where super-obese individuals are omitted to bariatric clinics or hospitals where they're put on a strict 800-1000 calorie per day diet... but that is medically supervised and usually a matter of life or death.

My recommendation would be along the lines of establishing meaningful, workable and effective guidelines that you can maintain forever.

But in the meantime, I'm still interested in hearing what you're eating day in and out and how are you measuring calories?

word lol my trainer is just really a military type but in all honesty i am satisfied at the end of the day with the little food i eat like yesterday i ate

1 special k cereal bar for breakfast and skim milk....150 calories

went all day till 3 and worked out and right after that i ate 2 cups special k cereal (240 calories) and 2 cups skim milk (i would say at most another 250 calories and 1 cereal bar 90 calories and when i got hungry i ate an apple (80 calories) and later on maybe a few slices of pickles about 10 slices 5 calories
alot of times if i eat at a buffet i massively consume veggies first salad, steamed broccoli cabbage ect. then after two nice plates of that i eat 2 fillets of salmon grilled with lemon juice and more veggies i cant exactly count that calories but i over estimate it at like 6 or 7 hundred calories but thats my last intake for the day and its always before 5 oclock right after i work out

and by the way steve i dont think your full of it and neither does my trainer he says your talk is real but he knows i can push myself to get this done....but i know there are pros and cons to doing it quick....but i am a newb and already love you guys lol....keep talking to me...

ps. i broke 500 pounds yesterday i am now 497....feels good

Special K really has no nutritional value at all... are you keeping track of your nutrients in any type of food diary -like fiber/protein etc?
