I want to lose some weight between now and this trip...

Hey guys! My name's Jamie and I'm a 15 (almost 16!!) year old girl from Nebraska. This summer I'm probably going to Guyana for a missions trip with my youth church.

I'm always saying I want to lose a little bit of weight. I'm not super fat or anything, but I have a little bit of a gut, and some junk on my thighs that I'd love to get rid of! I want to get rid of the fat on my thighs because it makes wearing jeans uncomfortable, and that's pretty much all I wear! I need to get rid of the fat on my stomach because I'm really self-conscious about it.

I'm really serious about losing weight this time though. I know Guyana is going to be very hot and very humid! The healthier I am for this trip, the easier it's gonna be!

Right now I have a "lateral thigh trainer" in my room. FYI- as target.com says: "Unlike ordinary steppers, the Lateral Thigh Trainer moves in a bi-directional, skating-like motion. Move your legs in, out, up, and down, all at the same time." I also have a couple 10 lb. weights I am able to use at the same time I use the LTT. I also have a jump rope in my room. I'm limited when it comes to doing sit-ups because I have wood floors.

Lately I've just been experimenting with different things. Like using the LTT while watching TV and stuff like that.

My question is: Do you have any ideas for how I could work my thighs/stomach in maybe 15 or 20 minutes a day in my room with the stuff I have?? I technically have until July to lose it, but I want to work hard and get quicker results if that's possible!

Sorry for the LOONG post. I just wanted you all to understand my situation. I would be really grateful if you gave me your ideas!

THANK YOU!

(ps. i think i'm just a little more concerned about losing the stomach junk than what's on the thighs...)

Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately you can't spot reduce fat. In order to reduce fat, you need to reduce your caloric intake for about 500 calories (any more and your body will think it is starving, and it will try to hold on to any food you eat, defeating the purpose).

You should also do some cardiovascular exercise (jogging or running is good, and requires no equipment other than a pair of running shoes).

Your genetics will determine where you lose fat, there is nothing you can do to lose more fat in certain spots.

Hope that helps.

OK. i'm kinda limited when it comes to running. it's below freezing outside right now! lol and i HATEEEEE running! walking i can do...
Does jogging in place work??
or can you think of any other super simple cardio activities?
thanks :D

Yes, you can jog/run in place. Walking is ok, I would try to walk fast to try and get the heart pumping. You can also do jumping jacks.

Another cardio exercise that you can do with no equipment is called (these are intense).

If you have access to a jump rope that can also be a great cardio exercise.

Anything that gets your heart pumping will do.

SOOO today was my first OFFICIAL workout
I walked at a pretty fast pace. every once in a while i jogged for about 30 seconds or so at the same pace i was walking (it was a fast walk or a fairly slow, but not SUPER slow, jogging pace). For the last minute i ran pretty fast....
i did it when my mom left to do some errands.
according to my treadmill I:
was walking for 21 minutes (while watching king of queens )
walked 1.29 miles
under 'fat' it said 52, whatever that means
and burned 167 calories

i'm not sure how accurate all that is, but i was sweating by the time i was finished!

I think today was a pretty sucessful day. I ate healthy, too. I got up at around noon. I had a fairly large bowl of special k with some soy milk, at around one. and i haven't been hungry since.

I think I'm gonna try and go a mile and a half next time, at about the same pace.

do you guys think that was a decent workout?
any tips would be great! thanks!

OOOOH and do you know of any running shoes that aren't so, like, HIGH UP? I tried on my moms and I felt like i was wearing high heels! I'm used to wearing super flat vans shoes.

You guys are gonna KILLLL me for this, but I walked without shoes today! I need running shoes! I'm looking into the NIKE PLUS ones so i can get the Nike thingy for my nano...

It's a good workout if you think you worked yourself hard enough. It sounds like you did - if you want to get a better handle on your work effort, get a heart rate monitor. It will tell you what percent of your max heart rate you're working at, which will give you a better idea of what you can do and what you're able to do. Past that - never do the same workout twice, always try to improve something every time you work out.

ok thanks.
i think i'm gonna have to wait 'til monday to walk again because i didn't have shoes on when i did it yesterday. i have no running shoes, just really flat shoes. so i thought i'd try it without shoes....STUPID. I KNOWWWWW. My legs are sore now...
