Hi.
I really want to lose 35 lb/16kg in the next 2 months. Im 20 yr male, my height is 1.64m(which i think is the same as 5,38 Feet) and my current weight is 175.92lb / 79.8kg.
I started dieting in the middle of April and since then i lost 28 lb / 13kg. But my weight loss wasn't made with the best plan, because i started to do fad diets =/ I made the cabbage soup diet, and there were days when i only ate soup for lunch and dinner and maybe an apple in between and started to feel the side effects like dizziness and i some pain in my stomach. So i changed the diet a little bit, i continued to do the meals with the soup, but sometimes after the soup i would eat something more, but something that was low calories, but i started to eat a little bit more.
Anyway, i started to feel better and continued doing meals with soup( but not always the cabbage soup) and some other meals that weren't very high in calories and the weight continued drooping, but at a slower rate now.

Right now i keep following this type of plan, with the soups and try to keep my calories around 500/600(i know, a little low and probably stupid thing to do), but i have felt a little more pain in my leg muscles when i do bicycling and also yesterday i wasn't feeling so good and i thought it was the limited calories and types of food and some exercise taking it's toll. Could the pain in the muscles be due to muscle loss?

I want to change my diet plan and include some more things that can help me be healthier and also keep me losing weight. I don't eat fish or meat( i do drink milk and eat eggs), so what foods in especially i should include in my diet?
And is it possible to lose the 35 lb in 2(max 2 and half) months? From my calculation, i would have to lose close to 4lb/2kg a week, is that a healthy rate?
Im sorry for such a long post and thank you for taking your time to read it:).

The words 'a little low' and 'stupid' are both understatements. Add the word extremely to both and you are more on track. Instead of trying to reach a dangerous goal like that, how about trying to lose the weight slow, steady and healthy. This shouldn't be about crash dieting, it is about creating a healthier lifestyle. Eat real foods in moderate amounts. Continue to work out. What you are doing is harmful in a long term. You are going to lose muscle, possibly damage organs and the odds of you regaining that weight is damn high because you don't learn how to eat for the rest of your life by sipping soup.

Thank you for your answer.
Yes, i know it's a stupid, unhealthy way to diet and i started to just do the first days of the diet to try to reduce my appetite and learn self control(which i luckily i did because now i can say "no" to a unhealthy food and choose a more healthy food), but as the weight started to drop i got excited and carried away and kept doing it. I haven't gained weight, even on days were i deviate from the "plan" and eat more, and im doing everything i can to not get it back because it took me a lot of hard work to get out of that weight and im not going back.
But now i realize that it's a bad way of losing the weight, but when you are desperate and feeling down for a long time and you start seeing your weight drooping, getting "smaller" and see your clothes getting bigger on you, i just couldn't help but keep going. But i realize that this could bring complications on my health and if never had them when i was heavier, i don't want to have them when im losing weight.

So, any advices on good foods that i should include on my meals(once again, considering i don't eat meat or fish)? I will keep eating soup(not the one from the cabbage soup diet) because i like soup and i have been eating soup since i was a child and i think is a good way to eat some vegetables, no?

And about my weight loss goal for the 2 / 2 and half months? Is it doable?
Thanks

(Sorry for any mistakes with my English)

Ok first, based on your weight..no. It's not realistic at all. The safe amount is considered to be 1% of your bodyweight a week. Let's say 10 weeks (roughly 2 and a half weeks). You are currently 175 so that is 1.75 a week and remember that number drops each week. The idea of losing 4 pounds a week for your size isn't realistic.

As far as what to eat, I'd go heavier on protiens to reduce muscle loss. Start reading lables and learn portion control to eat under the amount of calories you need each day. Weight loss is calories in vs calories out.

And do you make the soup or is it something you buy? Soup tends to be high in salt.

Pretty much what Jericho said is what I'd say as well.

I get really frustrated with people who start off with "I know it's stupid but I'm going to do it anyway". AT that point, there's not really any sense in giving further advice, because ... well ... obviously the person doesn't really care about being healthy or safe.

The soup is made here, at home. I try to be careful with salt, not only on soups but on everything else and i rarely add it to food, i try to use herbs when i can instead of salt, but yes, sometimes the soup is a little more salty than it should...
I'll have to admit that i was hopping to hear that my goal was possible to achieve, but i won't give up.
Thank you for the help and tips.

Hi karacooks, i only read your answer now.
Thank you for the answer. At the time when i started i didn't realize it was that stupid, that's why i started to do it and continued. But i started to be more interested on weight loss and the process, changing eating habits and exercise, i start to search about this and i realized that i wasn't making the right thing and the healthy diet, so that's why i decided to ask for some advice here.

At 175lbs, you should be able to lose weight at a healthy rate by eating 1750 calories per day. You should be able to maintain your current weight by eating as much as 2600 calories per day. (note: ballpark estimates) You're basically starving yourself... 500/600 calories per day? Have you read the news story of the girl who died recently after being on a very low calorie diet to get thin for her wedding? Its basically anorexic, eating so little. There are all sorts of things you can eat. Most foods aren't inherantly "healthy" or "unhealthy", its all in the quantity. Anything you can cook at home is probably a good start. Meats: chicken, fish, shrimp, beef, pork, plain hamburger, turkey, etc... all good healthy meat proteins in the proper quantities. Any vegetable, as much as you want. No ones going to get fat gorging on broccoli. Any fruits. Grains: brown rice, whole grain breads, whole grain pastas, steel cut oats (oatmeal) - all good stuff if you keep an eye on the calories. Healthy fats - you need these too - Olive oil, olives, avacados, the fats in salmon, almonds. You want roughly 30% protein, 30% carbs (veggies and whole grains), and 30% healthy fats. Doesn't have to be perfect. And then everything else you think might be off limits, its not. Keep an eye on calories and you can pretty much eat whatever you want for the last 10% of your calories.

As for your goal, I'm sorry its not doable in a healthy way. You should expect to lose AT A MAXIMUM, 1% of your body weight per week. And thats if everything is perfect. The most you should expect to lose is 13 to 15 lbs. You already sound like a pretty skinny guy as it is, are you sure you need to lose that much weight? Also given the fact that you've been on an extremely low calorie diet for some time, I would think it would be hard to lose just 10lbs in 2 months for you. It might be better for you to start eating more and lifting weights, and try to build some muscle and strength. This would mean you would look and feel more fit, at a heavier weight. Weight isn't everything. You could be a ripped 200lbs, or a flabby 150, which would you rather be? My goal is to get to <15% bodyfat someday, while weighing as much as possible (within reason). Weighing more has its perks too, such as, you need to eat more to maintain, and since I love eating....

So just think about it... if you keep going how you're going, you will lose weight, but it won't be healthy. You'll end up looking like christian bale in the machinist, or worse...

Thank you for your answer and tips.
Trust me, im not a skinny guy at all and that's not actually my goal, to be very skinny, just a normal, healthy weight and a healthy figure, one that i can make me feel comfortable with myself. And that's other thing that made me realize that i was probably losing muscle instead of fat, because although some of my pants are bigger now, for the last week i haven't been seeing results on my measurements( i measure and weigh myself everyday). Anyway, i guess it's clear that i know that what i was doing wasn't healthy and i want to do a healthy weight loss.
Looking at your tips for what foods to choose, i can implement them all in my diet, except for the meat and fish :s I don't eat meat or fish, so getting protein and some more nutrients from there is going to be difficult. I eat eggs tough, and it's where i get most of my protein( but i eat them with a 2-3 day break).

Eggs, yogurt, milk, cheese ... all are good sources of protein.
Additionally, beans, lentils, and other legumes are also good sources of protein.

Make sure you eat balanced meals - lots of veggies, proteins, and complex carbs (whole grains, etc.). Don't eliminate fat from your diet - your body needs fats to process. Make sure you're eating healthy fats - things like olive oil, seeds and nuts (Peanut butter is a good source of healthy fat and protein), and fatty fruits like avocados.

Thank you for the tips on the foods, they were really helpful, especially because i started to read that protein should be included on a diet and i got lost on good ways to get it without meat. So now im going to have to make a (healthy) list to go grocery shopping:).
Also, i already bought oatmeal to eat in my breakfast and in the packaged it said to do with milk or water. what do you think it's best? I never ate oatmeal before... I was also thinking of adding apple pieces to it, so it has more flavor. What do you think?

Oatmeal is also a good source of protein. Watch the packaged oatmeals because they often have a lot of sugar and sodium in them. Adding apples is a good thing, or really any fruit that you like.

I checked the package and mine is 100% oatmeal, no sugars, no sodium, nothing, just oatmeal.
I made it now for breakfast. I wasn't sure if would use milk or water, mostly because of the calories, but i decided to go with milk since it's the first time im eating and i heard that it tastes better with milk, but im going to try with water tomorrow. I also add apple which made a big difference, because the oatmeal itself doesn't have much flavor. But anyways, i like it and im going to continue using it as breakfast:)

I make my oatmeal just covering it with water and putting it for a minute and a half in the microwave oven and then when I take it out add a bit of low fat milk, along with low cal jam or fresh fruit.

thats also a good idea, i think i will do it tomorrow;)
