I want to look and feel my best!

Hello everyone! I am new to this forum, but not new to trying to lose weight. I have not really struggled with my weight over the course of the past 12 years, I just plain gave up. I am currently turning 23 this August and I weigh over 240 lbs and I can assure you it's not muscle weight. I am 6ft 2in tall, and I have been overweight since I was 11. I have tried to lose weight before, and actually did very well dropping to 170 from 220. Since then I have moved out and received a promotion at work. I have been very busy and have been eating a lot of junk and fast food. One thing about me that you should know is I love to eat. I don't particularly fancy junk or fast food, but when I'm hungry I like to eat a big plate of food. I am open to change, as long as it tastes good. My goal before I turn 24 next year is to be 180lbs worth of lean muscle. I want to be able to enjoy myself when I go out and not worry how my flabby rolls look, if they are hidden properly etc. I want to be healthy and happy.

My plan is to first, quit smoking.
I know it's a terrible habit and totally uncool. I am hoping that quitting won't take very long, but there is a lot of times when I feel I need it.
After quitting smoking, I plan to first begin by changing my diet. I plan to have breakfast more regularly as that is something that I had whenever I had the time or was so hungry I just had to eat. I also plan on cooking my meals beforehand so that I won't have to worry about what I am going to eat or buy something because I am not prepared. I do plan on eating healthy, such as salads and vegetables and whatnot because for me that isn't the problem. Once I can make my food taste good, I have no problem eating it.

Once I have quit smoking and changed my diet and staying that way for about a month, I plan to begin exercising. I will do 1 day of cardio and 3-4 days of weight training. I will incorporate protein shakes into my diet and also a multivitamin supplement. My hope is that I can lose 80lbs of fat by the beginning of summer next year and gain 20lbs of muscle by the end summer that year.
I hope that I can do this without having someone to push me, which is why I signed up here. To be accountable in some way and to have a place where I can look back and count my accomplishments.

I hope over the next few months that I will begin to make some headway.

I look forward to hearing any advice you may have for me, or any help at all that you can offer.

Welcome!!!

It sounds like you have decided that you need a change in your life in a couple of areas and are going to take them head on. Good for you!

And I think it is very wise that you take things a step at a time. Smoking is a tough habit to break, and many people often replace smoking with food. I would suggest finding a replacement habit to help prevent yourself from eating in its place. What my husband did to quit and not eat was play video games. The kind of video games we play are very intense and take a lot of focus. However, I wouldn't play a game that makes you angry (they exist. lol) Anyways, that may not be your thing. Have you joined a forum or group to help you quit smoking?

One thing that stood out to me from your first paragraph was:
I am open to change, as long as it tastes good.

Just keep in mind that part of change is being open to foods that might not be the way you like them right now, but you will later. I think that as we find ourselves traveling down our new paths we will learn to enjoy things we didn't once before, but we have to give them a chance. That being said I am sure you will find something that you enjoy to eat on a regular basis that isn't unhealthy.

Thank you for your words! I know that not everything appeals to the same people and that i might not like some things at first but I know thy in time i can adapt.
The note about playing video games, I do like video games and I play only one currently (world of warcraft) but I don't have the time to play it as much as I would like to. I think that instead of smoking I will probably just write down whatever is in my mind at that time. I think that will be able to help me out.

good luck with your new decisions!I too am a smoker and have said to myself many times to quite.I have started my new eating habbits and cant deal with that too right now.Never thought of writing down my feelings that a good idea!
I love Lara Croft but no time with the little one at home!Plus i get angry real easy so that wouldnt work for me!
