I Want To Do This!

I am desperate! I weigh 235 lbs., the most I have ever weighed. I have always had an eating problem but being young had always helped me keep the weight down. I am now 36 years old, have given birth to 2 children, and I am out of control. I am waiting on lab results right now to see if I have Type II Diabetes. You would think that would be enough to scare me but I am still eating chocolate chip cookies like a crazy person!

I have had a tough year as far as things in my personal life. I started a blog on myspace.com so I could put my feelings down and make sense of everything. I am hoping this journal will do the same for me. I eat to relax and get away from life for awhile. I have to find something else to do when things get rough.

If anyone can relate, please help me! I want to lose weight so bad. I think about it constantly!

P.S. How do you get that neat scale that helps you track your weight loss?

Hi, wifeandmommy! Welcome! Glad to have you with us! I think we've all felt (and are still feeling) the same way as you. It's so easy to get out of control, and sometimes it just doesn't seem worth it to constantly have to watch what you eat. But it IS worth it! I've been heavy (I still can't bring myself to say "obese") for the last 20 years, and I can look back and see how my health has deteriorated. My knees hurt, I now have high blood pressure, I get out of breath so easily. It's a wonder that I'm not diabetic yet, but I've been fortunate. So last month I decided to really take control of my life and change how I live. And finding this forum was the best thing that could have happened to me! Everyone here is so supportive and encouraging, and they will be for you too! Jump right in and join a club or two, check out the recipes and other threads, and check out other's diaries. We're all in this together and are here to help each other. So ... welcome!

I made my ticker at . Once you get into their website, it's pretty self-explanatory. Once you have your ticker made, just copy and paste the code into your signature area. I think someone has posted a thread with instructions on how to do this somewhere. It may be under the "newcomers" area.

Good luck in your weight loss journey! We're here for you!

Welcome to the forum! I can relate to how you feel! I wanted to lose weight for a long time before I finally found this forum, but never actually lost any weight until I joined here. The people here are very supportive and really helped me to focus and get on track. You can do this! Just take it one day at a time. Post here often, come here for support, write down what you eat so you can be accountable. Good luck! :D

If you have any questions, please let me know! :D

Hey wifeandmommy - welcome to the site - you've definitely come ot the right place where people can relate to what you're going thru... we also offer plenty of support and encouragement at no additional charge :)

I'm a big fan of the online food journals (like www.fitday.com or www.sparkpeople.com) that you honestly track what you are eating in a day,it gives you a good idea of where your calories are coming from where perhaps where you need to cut back..

Exercise, even as simple as walking will also give a boost to your metabolism..
Though finding time with two kids I'm sure will be tough, but maybe incorporate the kids into your exercise time.. (if they are old enough, dance party wiht mommy :)

Anyhow - welcome - and lots of success to you

Thanks, you guys!

You guys are great! Please know that support goes both ways. I am always here to talk. If I don't answer immediately, it is because I am still trying to figure out how to use this sight.

Hi wifeandmom:

I pretty much am in the same boat. I have a 8 month old boy and I gained over 50lbs before I got pregnant then gained another 50lbs while I was pregnant. I feel your pain and I understand what you say when you say you are out of control. I joined here in may and I've been at the weight loss game this time since February. I've done really good and I've really faltered but the one thing that remains the same is the wonderful support from all of the kind, supportive and helpful people here.

There is a 200 plus club where everyone who is there is 200 plus lbs and there we track our activity levels and provide support to eachother. You might want to check those out. but definately check out spark people or fitday as Maleficient suggested. They both are really wonderful sites especially spark people if you are looking for help with a weekly plan of what to eat. They will even print out a shopping list for you as well.

The is lots of help and information here. You have come to the right place! Your journey begins today!

Welcome wifeandmommy!!
I've only been using this site for maybe a month and I love it!! I feel like I'm actually making a difference and that everybody here are just like me. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, everyone is really good about newbies!! :D

Hello and welcome to your diary.

I definately can relate to you. I have always struggled with weight and now that I've found this place, I've been able to accomplish some of my goals.

Do you have any goals you'd want to share???

Hang in there! If you lose even 5 to 7 percent of your total body weight, you can greatly reduce the risk of diabetes, or possibly halt and reverse its progress if you are recently diagnosed. For you, 7% would be less than 17 pounds. You can do this! Set reasonable goals and work toward them every day. I started 10 pounds heavier than you in May, and in 9 weeks I am down to 223. That's 9% of my total weight in 9 weeks. You can do it, too! Good luck!

hey W&M. As someone who was diagnosed with diabetes recently, hang in there. It's better knowing than not knowing right? Whether you have it or not, it's good to see you making life changes now whether to prevent it in the future or help your diabetes. If it does turn out you have diabetes, it's not the end of the world as I've found out. Some restraint, some self-control & self-monitoring, some weightloss and portion control will go a long way. In February, my sugar levels were high. Now in July, my sugar levels are now average. It's a personal battle within everyone. You just gotta think which is more important... The cookie you have in your hand or your health. Do you want instant gratification or gratification later. Sugar now or being healthy and not needing to take insulin shots at age 60. I know the easier choice is the cookie in ur hand but I've found it's not that hard once you start making a habit out of it. So hang in there. *hugs*

My actual diary

Okay, time to be honest. I guess no one starts these things eating exactly what they are supposed to. Here goes.....

Today......

Lowfat Pop Tarts 380 calories

Leftover Mac and Cheese 500 calories (guessing)
Leftover Baked Beans 500 calories (guessing again)

Healthy Choice French Bread Pizza 360 calories

Weight Watchers Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Dessert 340 calories (I ate 2 at 170 cals apiece)

Total Calories 2080

I am never honest about what and when I eat. The fact that you are is awesome.....I am going to try to do that more because I just think I am eating way more than I should be. :D

wifeandmommy its hard at first to list everylittle thing but then you see how they add up. after awhile youll see how much good food it takes to get to 1500 or more calories. Hey no worries. the only problem is the baked beans and mac and cheese just kickstarted my barbq gene into overdrive lol......

wow. good job on being honest with yourself! *gives you pat on back* I'm really bad about being honest with myself, trying to justify what I eat with something else. Even paying a little more attention to what you eat can help. Ask yourself if you really need that extra portion of fries, or that extra piece of cheese on your sandwich. That's what I did, and I dropped about 5lbs just by asking myself those questions before I ate anything.

Now i've added more exercise, and healthier food, and i've dropped almost 20lbs since I seriously started. Good luck, and I know that you can do it!

Getting honest helps SO much. Hang in there, and record everything. Even a single Starburst candy has 20 calories. I noticed within a week of recording my meals, my calories dropped by about 25% just by making better choices. Like Xorie said, when you become accountable for what you put in your mouth, you really have to ask yourself if that order of fries is worth the hundreds of calories it costs. Sometimes the answer might be yes, but more often than not, you will find you can live without the object of temptation. :)

I've also found, as I'm sure many others have too, that if you eat slowly the longer you take to eat (up to 20 minutes) the less food you will consume. And you'll find that you will be completely satisfied with half the amount of food.

This menu qualified for a visit from the Twiny Stick. Taking in consideration you're a newb, we'll let it slide (joking here).

Arm yourself with food knowledge and a new shopping list. You can have better results by exploring what works for you in areas of healthy foods.

Don't fall into the trap that coporate America's pre-packaged, all things 'low-fat', all things 'healthy choice' and things 'weight watchers' are the 'magic' solution. These products can serve as a vaulable aid in weight reduction but unless you're planning on eating them the rest of your life, how are you ever going to learn about all the other foods ?? what to avoid ?? what to eat ?? there are a gazillion foods out there that are natural and safe and nothing but plain ol' good for you without buying one pre-packaged meal.

When I read a product labeled "Healthy Choice French Bread Pizza" I chuckle and say to myself 'this is an oxymoron'. Healthy=Pizza, too funny. The only thing here is (if you're lucky) portion size is correct, calorie reduction will come by way of imitation mozzerella and possibly turkey pepperoni. Pizza, no matter who makes it, will always be a carb-pusher, even with portion control a high carb meal needs to be dealt with for processing. You might as well have 2 slices of Pizza Hut Pan Pizza if your not going to walk off this meal, you get the same results if you don't.

I hope the forum assist you with knowledge and no doubt the support is here at your disposal. It will be up to you to chase your dream.

Speed eating is one of my worst food habits... A trick I have recently learned is to take a sip of water between each bite of food... The first time I did it, the bad angel popped up on my left sholder saying dang this is taking forever to eat dinner, then the good angels popped up and said.. So what.. why do you care, dinner should be enjoyed, it's not a race to finish..

Slowing down and sitting down for meals is something you really want to consider...(check out the French women don't get fat thread, that thread lists some tips for healthier eating that make a lot of sense)

Today's a brand new day... who cares what you did yesterday... you can do what you need to do today... for you :)
