I want to be a U.S. Marine (ooRAH!)

I am 15, male, weigh about 267 pounds, but I'm around 6' or 6'1" tall and big boned (not making excuses i just am). My goal is to get down to 180 or so.

Right now I've been cutting back on meal portions, doing sprints every other day, and weight lifting inbetween those days.

I need to follow though, a more strict diet. I realy need help deciding if:

1, My current plan is healthy
2, i should go to a calorie diet and what number of calories i should have daily.
3, there are any tips or cautions you all can give me for making this healthy and smart.

thank you

^ I was so like "How rude!" but then I looked it all up with my fascinating google abilities and found out that a Jarhead simply refers to someone in the marine corp--why I don't know.

Welcome to the site! Good luck with you goals! :)

Becoming a Marine is a great goal and a great motivator for getting healthy and in shape. One of my best friends when I lived in the US was an ex Marine, honorably discharged, and one of the best people I have ever known.

Good luck with your goal, you can do it!!! You are at a great age to become healthy and provide a great life and career for yourself.

hey hey.. look who got a diary started! :)

As for the calories, I track mine using Sparkpeople.com ...sometimes I feel like they set the calorie range low, but I truly think it has helped me to gauge what I am eating through the day by tracking it & having a goal to work towards. Worth checking out.

Yea no personal attacks at all just a Army Marine rivalry and being as I want to join the Army might as well start the rivalry soon.

hmmm.. do I smell a challenge?

Maybe you two should see who can lose the most weight in the next two months? A little rivalry to help give you the extra motivation...

Portion control is a good start.

Appropriate portion size would be:

Lean protein (the size of your palm)
Complex Carbs (the size of your fist)
Plain Vegetables (no butter or fattening sauce) fist size also

Hope that helps.

Cindy

Anyone from Airforce comin as well? Hahha... :rotflmao:
U might could a Tri-Forces challenge then.
anyway hope both of u rough it out in good spirit.

My.... only 15? That's young. And admirable too to realise the importance to keep fit. I was jamming lots of KFCs down my throat when i was your age.
Was in the Navy too but not combat. I battled with the mouse everyday (admin:p )

First of all, I hope you and your army buddy both read through the Index of WLF "Keepers". There's lots of good information in there.

I know at your age, you're still in a rush about everything, and don't want to take things slow. But both of you guys seem to be planning on losing this weight so quickly that you'll be destroying a lot of your muscle fiber, and leaving nothing but fat. It seems to me that if you want to enlist, that would be the last thing you'd want. Yes, it may take longer to do it in the right way, but if you're sent to Iraq or Afghanistan, it seems like you would want to keep all the muscle you could.

Second, I'm not sure why you're set on 180 lbs. I'm 6'0" myself, and if I get down to 13% body fat, I'll be at 200 lbs. That's a pretty low body fat percentage. Have you ever measured your bf pctg? If not, I'd suggest you do that, and modify your goals based on your target body fat pctg, rather than some abstract notion of how much you think you should weigh.

Calitoker- Oh yah!? I'll be a Devil Dog while you'll be a Doggy! haha only joking...

but not really...haha

i dunno man we could do this challenge but i'm pretty sure i'd lose lol. Do challenges happen alot around here?

TomO- Yah i was just throwing out a number.

I don't really know how to measure my bf pctge (Body Fat Percentage?)

Alright now i got a slight problem

I remember weighing my sellf a few months ago (with jeans, shoes and a couple shirts on) and it read like 270.

I just weighed myself (with a shirt and cargo shorts) and it says like 251.

I don't really think i've lost that much weight! I can tell i've lost some but not that much. I know the jeans, shoes, and shirts added to it but still! not 20 pounds!

My problem is that i don't feel like i lost that weight and don't know if i'im some how lieing to myself or not...

i dunno its kinda complicated for me.

Did you have on shoes? I'm amazed at how much shoes can weigh sometimes.. along with jeans, etc. Add on if you had a meal before ...

Dunno what is going on.

I suggest you try to weigh the same time of day & also in the same outfit or naked if thats an option. Your weight fluctuates through out the day even.

Good luck figuring it out. :)
