I Used to be Fat

I like the show. Their was one episode where the mom was totally against the daughter losing weight. She didn't even try to support her daughter. Bringng non-healthy food into the house. Throwing a fit regarding the time she spent working out. Those are all real life scenarios. Any show that shows
"real life", I'm down for. Its the unrealistic crap I can't stand.

Honestly, I am a reality TV whore.. there I said it. This show was actually found to be pretty motivating to me. I like how they targeted the younger generation as many of us have these same struggles and feelings of hopelessness. The show actually shows the results of even the people who didn't take things as serious as they should have, that was my favorite part I think because so many reality shows now only show the extreme successes.

I love my tv!!! I wonder if their is a support group for us tv junkies..lol

I think it's a pretty realistic show. You're watching kids that go through the motions of weightloss and how difficult it is in your natural environment vs. Biggest Loser where they're put in a 24hr bootcamp. You can also see how the the kids progress through the show in their attitudes.

I just started counting calories using this iPhone app called Lardspotting. You take a picture of your meal and the app counts the calories for you.

Sounds like a joke to me. Theres no way some picture can detect if I've used whole milk and butter in my meal or the fat free versions. It might be fun to play with but certainly not accurate.

I found it so helpful. Let me know if anyone else has any luck with it.

This would have been funny if it had been posted on April 1st.....

I watched one episode of the show, and I thought it wasnt too bad. The kids aren't forced into losing 20 pounds a week, which is good, but they get a lot of focus with trainers, which most people do not get in real life. From the one episode I watched, the girl had a goal of losing 100 pounds in 100 days, and even though she only lost 30 or 40 pounds, it was enough to show a lot of difference in her. She looked better, felt better and she had gained a relationship with her father through the process.

In all honesty I dislike MTV yet I'm addicted to teen mom because I want to see what stupid sh-t they do next, its just laughable really.

Since I watch MTV (online) I saw the commercial/trailer for I Used to be Fat and watched all the episodes. Not too bad, not too good. I thought it was great that they lost the weight but it's not realistic for those who do not have a trainer 24/7 to work with. So it's like giving teens an unrealistic expectation of themselves if they were to lose weight. Exactly like BL in my opinion.

It was a good watch, kept me entertained for a bit if I didn't feel like watching something that required me to think (as with all MTV/reality tv shows). To be fair though, its more realistic than BL, which I can't watch because it makes me feel like losing 2-4lbs a week is insignificant

Hahaha...I watch that show to for the same reason. Each week, what in the world are these chicks thinking. Where are they finding these loser guys....

I feel like these shows really focus on old science which I personally don't buy into. Just excercise more and you will lose weight. Burn more calories than you eat and you will get skinny...

That doesn't work for a lot of people. For instance my wife trained and ran both NYC and Chicago Marathons and didn't lose a pound. I just don't buy into the low fat diet. The FDA has been pushing this for the last 50 years and we have the highest rate of diabetes and obesity we have ever had. It's just not working. As a country we are consuming more sugar than ever before, with the drinks/breads things you wouldn't even think it's in. This spikes our blood sugar triggers insulin to be made and is the root cause of these epidemics.

All through grade schoool I was fed ceral by my parents for breakfast along with a half a grapefruit. Along with being starving at 10 30 I struggled with some behavior issues. Why?? My blood sugar level was probably through the roof and started to crash after just a couple hours of class.

Mainstream TV is starting to get it. Did anyone watch 60 mins last week?

Im eating eggs for beakfast now along with a high protein diet and low carb. I have dropped 45 lbs in the last year. I can go hours without feeling starving and I just feel so much better all day. Im not up and down like I used to be.

Josh,

Thanks for the post. I checked out the 60 mins clip and I went to your wifes blog littlemissrunner.com It's cool. Im trying the pulled chicken recipe tomorrow night I think. Thanks!

Wow, how interesting this clip is! It is no surprise to learn that sugar is addictive, that is old news; but the severity of the addiction is a surprise to me. To hear that it may be as addictive as cocaine or heroin is horribly frightening. So when they say to have a little but no more, that is nearly impossible for some of us--me included. Wow, this explains so much! Thanks for the post.

That show it good for publicity or audience for MTV but it doesn't work for people who have to work or make another activity more than think on the weight, you have to take a diet and exercise that can be more realistic

I think the show is giving positive view for the teens who suffer the same situation. The methods they use in the show is not generally effective for everyone, sometimes they gone too far.

if your diet is depending on fruits than weight loss is guaranteed. Fruits are the best source of vitamins, fibers and minerals. When you prefer eating citrus fruits in your lunch time or breakfast, your body’s desire for fatty food reduces and the fats which are stored in the cells of your body is consumed to make energy for your body.

Fruits also help to cure many diseases in your body, like cardiac diseases can be easily cured and prevented; growth of cancerous cells are treated and cured; blood sugar level is maintained; water level in the body is also maintained; reduces calorie rate in your body; and also reduces the amount of bad cholesterol in your body.
