I think taking it too seriously doesn't help...

I've been trying to lose weight for a while, but no matter how far you get, it seems like it's never enough. I think it helps to remove yourself from the situation a little bit and realize that almost everyone is trying to lose weight - if you can get a group together to take a step back but remain focused at the same time, i think it will be easier.

Hi David,
Welcome to the forum :D

I would agree that when we take things too seriously, whether it's losing weight or not, we set ourselves up for the emotional baggage with it. Like being upset if we don't lose that pound...in x amount of time, etc.

However, I do think staying focused is a key element to losing weight for me. By staying focused, I'm on track and each time I eat, it is a conscience decision. Whereas, when I'm not on track, I can eat without ever realizing it.

I have to agree too. Take baby steps. Start off slow, ease your way into it, then work up to where you want to be. That has always been one of my biggest problems when I've started a workout program or diet plan. I jump right in too fast, burn out in a few weeks, and give up on it. Finally I've taken my own advice here, and started slow, and am continuing something steady and sustainable. So far so good!
