I need to lose 100 pounds.

I bought a scale yesterday and did some research today, and if I can lose 100 pounds I will be at 183 and that is around the range for my height. 5-6. Wow.. 100 is a large number :eek:
 
Just take it one pound at a time and you will get there. Make small goals of 5-10 pounds and reward your self each time you make it with a CD or a trip to the movies ect. You will lose it before you no it.

I need to lose 100 pounds, too. I have always thought I would be happy with a smaller loss, but only once succeeded inlosing about 20 pounds. I got pregnant with my twins after that, and then the weight came back.

I started a journal on May 11 and the first words I wrote were, "I want to lose 100 pounds!" I then wrote my start weight and my goal weight. There was something profound about seeing those numbers down on paper.

I am trying to take things one 30 day period at a time, setting small goals as I go. I have 10 days to go until the end of my first 30 days. It seems like it has been MUCH longer than 20 days!!!! The hardest part of my first 30 days has been not getting on the scale. I realized in my first three pages of journaling that I beat myself up over scale fluctuations, I get discouraged, and I quit. Usually within the first two weeks. Avoiding the scale was necessary for me to keep from talking myself out of any success I might see in the first month.

When I lost over 100 lbs the first time, I went by increments of 10 lbs. I didn't look at it as 100 lbs, but as 10 lbs. After the 10 lbs down, I started my next set of 10 lbs.
It took away the overwhelming thought of , WOW, 100 lbs I need to lose and made it more mentally manageable. Next thing you know, it's only a total of 50 lbs you will have to lose. What an incredible feeling!!!

My other motivator was taking a pair of pants/shirt and using that as my gage of weight loss. I would keep putting the same pants and shirt on and then when that was to overly large to use as a gage, I would get something smaller and so on. Sometimes a scale can discourage a person.

When I started losing weight, I had exactly 150 lbs to lose - no easy task when you're looking at the big picture. I have to agree with everyone that you have to take it 10lbs at a time. I also do the 10% rule...meaning once I lose 10% of my body weight, I have a little celebration and buy something nice for myself. I have about 10lbs left till my 20% goal and those are big motivators because they say that even losing just 5-10% of your body weight dramatically decreases your chances of all the ill health effects that go along with being overweight or obese.

Mini-goals are great! I had 50 pounds to lose. That number was overwhelming. I take it 5-10 pounds @ a time and before I knew it I was down 31 pounds.
 
I feel that same sense of discouragement as well. I try not to look at the entire road ahead but just my weekly goals. It really helps. I also take comfort in looking at what I have accomplished so far. Considering that I have now lost 21 of the 85 pounds I need to lose, it is starting to seem reasonable that I could reach my goal.

Did you say that 183 was a healthy weight for being 5'6"? I am 6'0" and according the CDC BMI tables, my maximum weight should be 183.

My goal is to loose around 100 pounds...i lost 20 already..and im not looking at the 100 but the size 14 i wanna wear next summer...lol...scales are a pain in the butt...i try clothes on and check what fits...good luck ..keep us posted...
 
When I lost my 100lbs I also chose monthly targets which is a good time to compare. Weekly weigh-ins are to close together and can have a negative effect on your attitude.

Be sure to fit in exercise where possible and take on board all sensible hints that are given in forums etc.

Something to help you

My girlfriend put me on a program that is working out great for me. I'm on Herbalife and I've lost 30lbs in the matter of 2 and a half months. I'd suggest it to anyone. I'm so happy with myself and I like sharing my story with as many people as I can. Do some research on it. She can get you on a program too. No matter how you lose the weight, I wish you the best of luck!
 
Good luck to you! The big numbers are scary. I totally agree- don't think of it as needing lose a 100lbs- but as wanting to lost 5 lbs this month ( which is actually too high)
I have been seeing a doctor that specializins in weight loss- it is covered by OHIP ( Ontario Medical) .. no gimmicks or tricks. Although I also take wieght los drug, Meridia, I think most people can;t take it becasue of heart problems.( It increase blood pressure and heart rate)

He is big believer is SLOW weight loss- about 1 lbs a week and no more. Through reduced calories, increased protein, increased fiber, and frequent eating. He is wonderful.
He also discusses how big a change a 10& loss in body weight is and how even at 300/400/500 lbs this can make a difference on your over all health.

I started in September at 320lbs and I am now at 281. Just being below 300 was accomplishment.
 
100 feels like a huge number

just remember everyday u stay strong is a day closer to that goal.

i didnt think i could hit 100.. now look :)
 
Oh Man! This is such a big subject with me. I went to my PCP yesterday and weighed in at 288lbs. My Gosh! That's too close to 300lbs. Although I don't look like it except for my large abdomin and I'm very muscular throughout my limbs. I'm 5' 11" tall.

My goal is to lose 100lbs. but haven't had the nerve to even start yet. I'm going to work on taking a nutritional shake in the morning and at noon supplement with a high fiber meal replacement bar with the shake. Right now I get up and have a bowl of Frosted MiniWheats and nothing but about a gallon of water until dinner. Yes, I tend to over eat at dinner. Bummer!

I know I have a lot of work that has to be done but because of my chronic illness am unable to exercise. Double whammy!

I have just over 100lbs still to lose; and know how daunting it can seem when you focus on that number...DON'T.
Like others have said; focus on one mini goal at a time.
If you are able; then make exercise a part of everyday life. I'm not talking gym membership, necessarily; just some movement. I had started walking before my recent operation, which had helped me lose a little weight and tone up. Nothing major, just half an hour on a flat area. At the moment, I am unable to walk as exercise, but am looking forward to getting back to it, in the coming months.
Something else I like to do...when able...is just dance around the living room with some music bopping. Great exercise, but it isn't a chore. (My kids think I'm a fruit loop, but they'll get over it!)
As far as food goes...well this is a tricky one, as everyone is different. I have had degree's of success with a LOT of diets in my life; but the one which is working for me, mentally as well as physically, is eating my normal foods, but a little less of them.
At the moment, this is working especially well, because my appetite has gone AWOL...not a bad thing.
I am planning on alkalizing my diet more...i.e...more fruit and vegetables, less meat, dairy etc. Apparently, our bodies tend to need a more alkaline environment, and when it becomes acidic, it produces and keeps fat, to protect our organs from the acid. Once our bodies are more alkaline, they don't need to hang on to the fat, and weightloss ensues. Whether this is true or not, is anyones guess, but eating more fruit and veg, cannot be a bad thing, whatever it's effect on the body!
Whatever method you chose; I know you can do this.

The fact that you are here, is a positive step!
Did your PCP recommend the meal replacement drinks, etc?
I always feel a little concerned with these weightloss methods, because they don't teach you how to maintain your weight once you start eating normally, again.
Whatever you decide, I wish you the very best with it.

OK folks! I went to my PCP last week and I weighed in at 288lbs. Scary to me as this is only 12lbs away from the big (no punn intended) 300lbs mark.

On Thursday I will start my weightloss program. I will be drinking a weightloss chocolate shake from GNC and eating a high fiber Atkin's meal replacement bar for breakfast and lunch. I will then have a Weight Watcher's dinner prepared by my wife.

This should be a two week program to get me started and then I will be buying proven weightloss products from a network marketing company to follow up. I know these products work as a friend of mine lost 100lbs in six months and to date has lost a total of 125lbs. and stable for two years. I even lost 18lbs on the nine day weightloss program so I'm pretty excited I can actually DO this.

I'll keep you all informed on my progress, or lack there of. :waving:
 
I am there myself. My husband looked up medical conditions that can be caused my obesity and I am going to get on the ball. I'm new here but if you need to chat! Good luck!
 
Hey guys, congratulations on the weight loss. I know what it is like to be looking in the mirror and thinking that it is never gonna change. Believe me IT WILL!!! I was like that so many times. I almost gave up on numerous occassions.

You need to remember that it will take a little time. The old sating 'take each day as it comes' was not what I thought about. It was take each week for me and then I would look in the mirror each week and only then. Keep confidence though.
