I Need To Get Healthy

Hi everyone. My goal is to get healthy. I have been in bad health especially this last year. Unfortunately it seems there are a couple of things wrong as far as I can tell. I have what I think to be gall bladder pain and all the symptoms for hypothyroid, but not alot of luck with doctors helping me. I am not very active, partly due to always feeling weak and tired, but I'm hoping to turn my health around. I need to lose some weight and build up my endurance, strength and overall health. It's really been a challenge because I struggle with not feeling well so much of the time. It seems when I try to cut my calories significantly I get more pain in my side, and I feel unwell. And yet, I need to feel well enough to exercise. In one more week my kids will be back in school and I'm hoping to have a little time for myself to get some exercise in, and at least plan my foods a little better. I also will be trying some supplements to help my liver, gall bladder and possibly my thyroid and I have a doctor appointment next week. So I thought it would help me to come here and post my goals.
Hello everyone!:waving:

Good idea to have the doctor's check you out first.

If there are any underlying issues going on, it will directly effect how successful you will be in your ability to get healthy.

With exercise, start of with small doable changes if you aren't up to structured exercise. Take a short walk. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park a little further way in the parking lots.

With diet, try adding new/healthy things instead of just cutting back. Fresh fruits and veggies have tons of vitamins and minerals that will help you feel better. Drinking water too has some benefits.

Good Luck!

Welcome and good luck with your weight loss. You've made the first step by deciding to do something and that's always good.

Fruits and Veggies

Thanks Englangrover and Yarmiah.
Yeah, I keep thinking about the fruits and veggies and for the past year I've eaten quite a lot better than I ever have in life. I try to get in a variety of all the nutrient rich produce and I bought a juicer, but it is quite expensive feeding it enough produce to make a glass of juice! I figure even if I do it occasionaly it's got to help. I've tried a lot of stuff over the last months including eating all kinds of things that weren't that tasty, like raw beets. Another thing I've read about is grapefruit fiber is suppose to be very healthy in cleaning out your arteries and promoting good circulation, but that stuff is positively horrid when you taste it! I've got to get some in tablet form!

any supplements that you are considering taking -do make sure your doctor is informed of - all natural doesn't always mean healthy - and just because you can buy it off the shelf -doesn't mean that it's perfectly safe.

You also might want to consider keeping a food diary of everything that you're eating and how you're feeling when you eat it and soon after to rule out any potential food allergies...

Hey Rio, sounds like you have very positive goals. I can relate to not feeling good and struggling, I went through being sick as well and going undiagnosed for the longest but I'm glad to say I'm finally feeling better. I really hope get to the bottom of what's making you feel crappy too. Glad to have you here and welcome the the forum.

Thanks Maleficent, that's really wise and good advice I will have to keep that in mind for my appt and also when I decide to try some new supplement. I have tried things in the past that have given me ill effects.

Thank you Douknowjello, your sentiments are very kind. What were you diagnosed with? And what is making you feel better? I'm glad at least somebody is feeling better! lol. We live in a rural area and so sometimes our doctors here seem... behind the times a bit and sometimes it seems they just do a lot of guessing. But I have hopes that this appointment will be different for me.

I found out that I'm insulin resistant and also have polycystic ovarian syndrome. Apparently the two go hand in hand and I was diagnosed last year after my symptoms got so bad doctors finally coudn't ignore them a just dismiss me by saying "you're just fat". I've had symptoms for over 15 years and over that time I've had doctors that told me I was hypoglycemic and a few times been diagnosed with a hormone imbalance but it wasn't until last year that I finally got a diagnosis at the root of it all and proper treatment. It was a relief for sure but many people who have p.c.o.s with insulin resistance, including me, have a harder time losing weight. At least I now know why.

Also Well about ten years ago I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a chronic pain syndrome that can flare up and cause exhaustion, pain and even flu like symptoms. I'm still in denial about that honestly but I can't deny the symptoms when they flare up and others in my family have since been diagnosed as well. I really think it's just my weight and when I get it down I'll be fine.

I've found besides taking metformin that what I eat plays a big role in how I feel. So unfortunately I've been off any sort of healthy eating plan for the last month while we were moving and I've been feeling crappy lately. My own fault though.

I think you'll find alot of people in this forum who know what it feels like to fight health issues and feeling like crap. It gets tiring for sure but you're not alone, thats what I love about this forum :). I really hope you find out whats causing it sooner than later though and some solution to manage it. Good luck and talk to you soon ~Lisa
