Hello Phillipb,
I can't answer you last question about the cereal, but I will congratulate you on passing the fitness test! I'm a retired Army Reservist and I know the pain of the dreaded weight control program and fitness tests. I can honestly say, I'm glad to have served, and also glad to have retired, but I must admit that my weight gain started a steady climb the minute I got my 20 year letter. I'm now 51 and on the journey to get back down to "fightin' weight" (for this old lady, that means 150 lbs..I started at 269 back in June 2011 and now I'm somewhere around 207 (I only weigh myself once/month and that's on the 1st of the month...so I'm betting it will be less based on the way my pants are fitting now!). I exercise on the elipitcal early in the morning for 1 hour each day...it wasn't easy when I started, and some days, it's not easy now, but I can crank out the calories on that thing! It's so much easier on my knees than running and I think I'm getting the same benefit, if not better.
Now that you've passed your fitness test, you might want to switch up the running with the eliptical every once in awhile.
Good luck and keep up the good work...the weight will come off if you are committed to it! my program is simple (not easy)...no processed sugars, low carb, no eating after 6:00pm (and yes, that means that some days, I don't eat dinner), no soft drinks (and that includes diet drinks) but lots of water, and only weigh myself once a month and exercise some every day (my some is normally 1 hour of hard cardio for a burn rate of 800 cals/day) ..it's about that simple..not easy, but thought I'd share my method..when I actually reach my goal weight, I'm thinking the 6:00pm rule will come off...but probably not the others...my body loves sweets and carbs too much!!
