I need some help....

Hi,

Ok here it goes...First off im 20years old. I have always had a pretty good metabolism. I could eat whatever i wanted to and not gain an lb of fat! I have always stayed around the 145lbs area but recently i have been putting on A LOT of weight. I have no idea why and im getting really frustrated. Im now weighing around 165-170lbs and i gained this weight in like 1week!!! It's all fat and i know that because i use to be able to see my abs but now i have a GUT! I actually have fat rolls now when i sit down and i hate how i feel right now. Its like my metabolism just turned off all the sudden. I have put on weight in my stomach area and my pec area. I am actually starting to get "man-boob's". I dont regularly work out or run anymore and i havent done that for about a year.

I have decided that I want to start working out/running now to help. I also am going to stop eating any fatty foods or junk food. But I need help. I dont know what kinda food's to not eat and types of food's that would be good for me. Also are there any type's of cardo excersices that I can do that specialize in burning off fat and getting me in shape? PLEASE HELP.....anyone? :(

The first thing is to recognize that you have some things you can work on- which you do. You said you can clean up your menu and start working again. Eating well and working out are your answers.

Good foods are veggies, fruits, lean meats (chicken, turkey, good cuts of steak, etc), fish, beans, nuts in moderation, etc. Generally products that are not processed are healthy for you.

Most cookies, breads, cereals, pastas, cakes, etc are bad. Most all processed foods contain either too many sugars, carbs or salt. All not good.

I'd participate in different cardio intensities and I'd also start working out with weights. Weights are awesome and will really help boost your metabolism again. Read the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum. It contains all your answers.

1 step at a time... and don't over do it...

1 step at a time... means don't try to bite off more than you can chew... for example don't go crazy with your diet at first... How about working on portion control and changing from white bread to whole grain... and trying to just eat your maintenance level -500 cals... this is a good tool... ... or with running... if you haven't excercised in some time... don't try to run 5 days a week... with old shoes that aren't running shoes... try... run rest run rest run rest... for a while... the key is to not get injured or so sore that you don't want to continue... the first few times you work out you will be sore... but then it will get harder and harder to make yourself sore...

So many people go out and excercise with too much vigor the first few times... and end up super sore and just don't continue... the first few sessions... take it easy... build up to a vigorous workout... Think in terms of building habbits... put your workout in a place within your day that it can become a habbit... make it a habbit... they say that it takes 21 days of doing something to make it a habbit (I don't know how they came up with that or who "they" are but I have heard that a few times... ) my advice on excercise... is for the first 3 weeks (21 days)... do it every day...

That sounds crazy as your body needs to rest... but do it anyways... on a day you need rest make your excercise an easy 10-20 minute stroll around the block...followed by 10-15 minutes of stretching... the point is that your use your excercise time to excercise... (Habit forming)... even if it is really rest...

I think the reason I am still going is because I combined another activity with my excercise that I really love... the sauna... so on days I didn't feel like working out... went anyways because I wanted to hit the sauna...

Other things you can do to help... are to get an excercise buddy...

Pay attention to your body... if something hurts rest it...

------
Keep a workout diary... here or somewhere... so you can look back and see your progress... so you can give yourself a pat on the back...

OH... and remember... Diet is how you loose weight... it doesn't matter how much you excercise if you eat a 1/2 gallon of ice cream and 48 chicken wings... and a wash it down with a 6 pack of beer...

Good luck... and remember...

as somebody's signature around here says...

"Each meal can bring your one step closer or one step farther from your goal"

or something like that...

and I'll say this...

Weight loss is not about winning every battle... it is about not loosing focus on the war... you may mess up once and again... but dust yourself off... and get back on that horse...

lol... too many metaphors for me... sorry... Good Luck
