I need motivation

Hey guys, when I was on a healthy diet and workout plan a few weeks ago, I saw no weight loss (maybe because of increased muscle mass). However, I was taking hydroxycut too. It didn't work and it is a horrible product. However, it did help me to stay awake and motivated (like a placebo).

This time around, I want something will actually help. I find fat loss products motivating..I drink more water, etc. because the directions tell me too. It would be nice to find a safe one that will work to some degree ( I am going to continue the diet, etc.).

Post your diet and workout. If you did not see any results I bet the problem was your diet/workout (mostly the diet). You should have seen results no matter what pill you chose to waste your money on.

Hey, if buying some gimmick pill gives you what it takes to stick with it, then stock up. Then 2 weeks later when you realize its not a magic pill and start to slip up, you may realize it takes real motivation to make a lifestyle change.

You should note that most "magical weight loss" pills have a cool instruction on it: "In order for this product to be effective, please diet and exercise and drink plenty of water." Turns out, even without the pill, the instruction works.

You should also note that a good 99% of the pills don't work, and when they do, it's probably bad for your health. I recommend taking the weight loss product to a doctor and see if they can tell you of any serious side effect by taking the pill.

I also think you should try sticking to your diet and exercise a bit longer. Also, post your exercise routine and what you do for diet.

98% of new dieters fail because they don't realize that in order to loose weight & keep it off you need to establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Pill and fad diets might help you loose a little weight, but chances are that you'll gain it all back again (and then some).

Ask yourself if you are ready to "live" healthy, not just loose weight. If your answer is to live healthy, then it will take some commitment on your part, otherwise just stick with the "magic pills"...

just my 2 cents :)

A root cause of a lot of the problems in our "Mc-world" is that we are mentally conditioned to expect everything right now - and that especially applies to wt loss. Everything we see is "one hour", "drive thru", "instant".....

The diet pill industry has cashed in on this mentality and has fooled so many into believing that it is possible to defy all the laws of science.

A few weeks just isn't going to do very much. You have to stick with it for it to work.

Amen brother ! lol

I can't stick with the diet. I tend to overeat and I find it hard to resist good foods.

What sucks the most is having the diet that most of you guys have is unattainable to me. My parents don't like meet in the house so I am forced to eat meat only from fast food restaurants and such (can't do that everyday now). basically meat is nonexistant in my diet for the most part. Instead my family makes our culture based food (lots of oil is used).

I eat nonfat/low fat yogurt, drink water, granola bars/kudos bars, cheerios (no milk..just as a snack), pretzels with mustard (not sweetened and I try to take the salt off the pretzels), apples, oranges, grapefruit (these are awesome). My mom also started buying these diet bars (they are tasty). I eat other things too.

I do benches and pullups/chinups for upper body and sometimes run at resistance 10 on the treadmill ( I hate running).

I really want to fix my diet..I know that is a huge problem.

What I really wish to do is lose a lot of weight as fast as possible safely (so I really don't want to try weight loss pills unless it works and is safe for short term use). Then I want to slowly converge into a regular diet plan (where I don't cut calories but eat the right amount). But a huge motivation would be to lose this gut and manboobs.....everything else is alright. That is where my fat is.

I know I have increased muscle mass as I couldn't do a single pull up or chin up before I started weight training/comp

Don't quote me on this, but I heard that beginners weight lifters will gain some muscle in a short period of time. So what you might be experiencing is a quick muscle toning, and that might explain why you can do those things you couldn't do.

I can't really say much except that diet is the key to weight lost, not exercise. I too am a starter for weight loss, and thus far I lost nearly 25-30 pounds by cutting soda, fast food, and eating correct items. My clothes are starting to get lose, and my belt looks like crap because I always had it on one hole and now it went down to holes down so it's like a huge dent in my belt.

The key to weight lost is the following: the quality of exercises you do, and the quality and quantity of food you consume. Some organizations out there will tell you that this is impossible because no one ever "proved" these things worked (yes there are organizations such as that), and that is complete slacker option of telling people on how to deal with their weight problem. You could go to the gym, run 1.5 miles, and have some good lifts, but when you come home and eat "diet" bars and fast food, it's going to hurt you badly. It's like going to the gym for nothing. Also, the amount of food you eat now is not nearly enough for someone of your size (I don't know your weight and height, but by you saying "man boobs" I know it's something over what you should be).

Not to pick on you, but you're going to have to try harder. Try reading the sticky by LV in the food & nut section. As for no meat in the house, that’s fine. You can get on without meat, and you can get protein from other sources, such as eggs.

You don't have to eat meat, so that's no excuse for regularly eating fast food. There are several other ways to get those nutrients.

For the other stuff you've been eating - you have some work to do. I see very very little protein in there. Most commercial granola bars (especially Kudos) are just glorified candy bars and pure junk. Careful with the diet bars, many of them are loaded with sugar and aren't much better than candy bars either. Adding some milk to those cheerios would help you get some protein with them. Even yogurt you have to be careful with, as some of them have as much as 6 teaspoons worth of sugar in one serving.

It makes it hard, I know. It seems like everything labeled "healthy" "diet" and so on, is really just slightly altered junk food that is marketed really well. Your best bet is eat as many whole foods as you can, and be very selective with anything processed.

The fact that your mom bought "diet" bars tells me that she might be open to helping you change. Sit down and have a serious talk with her. Talk to her about your weight, and all that goes with it - from how you feel about yourself b/c of it, to the very real health issues you will be facing if you remain overweight. Maybe she can be convinced to help you with some meals that don't have as much oil, etc. She's your mom, she's going to be concerned for you.

The best appetite suppressant: WILLPOWER, and having things in place to combat cravings--knowing full well while on a deficit diet they are going to come. Having things in place to combat them instead of making fricken execuse for failure, and making execuse for success. Over the counter so called diet pills are completely BUNK. Its the persons overall mentality toward the goal and the MEAN BY WHICH to overcome KNOWN AND UNKNOWN weakness that brings success.

Thought: We must recognize our weaknesses and have a counsciously aided intellect to overcome them. I dont believe in WINGING IT on a diet or training. In stead of: "oh, I no I am going to crave food today" and " I dont know if I can handle it"--DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, and ITS NOT HOODIA or any other over the counter pill. I understand its MORE than just thinking positive. YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR FRAME OF MIND: if you fall 4 get up the 5th fricken time. The ones that are successful in training, dieting, in life, in business, and have this mental adaptability and persistance. If you WANT that body of your dreams, you have to EARN IT! Just like money dont grow on trees there is no magic pill (even with the NEW FDA APPROVED over the counter pill just announced) that you can pull off a tree.

Remember this: The persons whom market these diet pills KNOW ONE THING: Easy and doing nothing to lose weight SELLS to the open market: Sweating your butt off and working HARD (and deficit dieting) DOES NOT to the mass market. Most of the persons on these infomercials probably didnt even use the machine they advertise.

And, some with low body fat, (sub 6%) dont tell you HOW HARD IT REALLY IS..........to stay that low (on average), and read the caption, there is always a note on diet.

Which should make:
BELLS AND WHISTLES GO OFF,,,,,,,,,,DIET IS KING, the calorie is THE BOSS. You want that body........get your caloric intake in order.

Its not easy.....SURE I agree........SO WHAT! THIS WONT CHANGE, and we have to accept the things we can change and the accept the things we cannot...........The PLAIN TRUTH is what one needs to be successful, quit looking for some magic pill, the MAGIC IS IN YOU! Dont sell yourself short. Some may get upset with me about this type of attitude, but I FIRMLY believe this (synopsis only) is what it takes. To me ITS STUPID not to react and plan on weaknesses: If one KNOWS there going to be HUNGRY today, because there deficit dieting, and they mentally and strategically WING IT, and when the confrontation comes (and it WILL COME), and your not PREPARED for it, odds GO UP your going to fail. YOU MUST KNOW YOUR ENEMY.........in order to DEAL WITH the ENEMY.......

Being hungry while deficit dieting is a NORMAL bodily response. OF COURSE its going to yell at you! "Hey, dude (gal) your not feeding me enough,,,,,,I dont want to go to my other TISSUE SOURCES FOR IT---feed my @ss". So two things are going on: A biological response AND--------Your mental/physical response TO THIS biological response. WHICH IS STRONGER? This is up to you.

I apolgize for ranting, but I firmly believe in the power of the mind and believe the mind is the leader, and believe the body (within reasonable means) can do more than ONE THINKS it can.

For the sake of thought: Its always begins with the mind to execute anything outwardly positive or negatively does it not? Diet and training is no different. If one THINKS about this for a minute.

Being nearly 46, I had to accept alot of things because of my age I knew I could not change: I WILL NEVER grow muscle like a person half my age (I have to accept this) so I go after what my age will allow (a more flatter less full muscle growth it seems), and I tend to grow in strength more than growing muscle (deficit is MAIN culprit though).

Now ROCK ON. BE YOUR GOAL! Now set things in motion for positive reaction to negative stimulous that will come.

chillin, good advice....I think you should be a motivational speaker of some sort because if you can affect people with the words you write than i'm sure you can affect them even more by being on a stage talkign to them.

I know I went on a bit, but the are key things in there for success. One MUST know the route there taking is the correct path or not, and one key to knowing if it is or not, is to track along the way. Sometimes this WILL CATCH things along the path, or before a bad time, sometimes it will not until one is finished, but either case, self analyzing (not over analyzing) will catch it. The KEY is to have educated eyes analyzing the feedback and mental complications that come along. One MUST LOCATE "WHAT THING or THINGS" that WORK FOR THEM--mentally and in motivation. THIS MUST BE SOUGHT. AS this VERY THING will lead to your goal ONCE you locate it.

There's no easy way out, and one must be told bluntly that. Looking TO pills for the average overweight persons, is the WRONG PATH To look to.

For example: Even the very obese persons meet the law of calorie balance when they get their stomach tied to lose weight: The RESTRICTION of the stomach allow less food and less cravings because of the feeling of fullness. However, the body is STILL NOT getting enough energy (the calorie deficit), and seaches for other sources in the body (tissue, carbs, etc), and thus (with all things considered equal), they lose weight. The BASIC LAW IS MET. This is key to understanding the body.

There are alot of organs in the body that play certain rolls in fat loss (i.e Thyriod. And things like metabolism, etc, agreed); however, in the end of things the ULMIGHTY and ALL POWERFUL-----CALORIE is KING OF THE JUNGLE. PITY CAN DO THIS FOR YOU: Pity your @ss right back to binging and/or over eating--->KNOWING----MENTALLY---AT THE TIME YOUR ACTUALLY DOING IT,,,,,its wrong. Where did that get ya @SS! you just got a shovel and dug a hole.

Please understand, I am not pushing my personal motivators, the theme in all this is finf the motivator SEEK IT, FIND IT......you will, it is there. It can be elusive BUT HARD WORK PAYS OFF, and you will find it!

Battling your mental self is an ongoing MENTAL TEST, it does not end. Knowing HOW, WHEN, WHERE, and then implenting positive battles is what makes a WINNER..............NO ROCK FORWARD!

With that said, sometimes we have to take two steps forward and one backward..........The step backward CAN be a LEARNING MENTAL EXPERIENCE and PREVENTION MEASURE FOR THE FUTURE-----SO ROCK FORWARD, BRA!

Reminds me of some "Workout Box" (i forget the actual name) I bought maybe 10 years ago. It had 7 or 8 things in it, most in liquid format. You would put 3 drops of this under your tongue, and 4 drops of this under your tongue, and 5 drops of this other thing in your water...all very laid out. And in the box was this workout/diet plan that was absolute killer. Yup, after a few weeks, it became evident that the stuff in the box was pretty much junk, and the workout and the diet were what was needed.
