Hello to everyone out there! I am in need of some serious exercise motivation...living all of my life being FAT and LAZY has really gotten to me! Now I just don't want to get up off the couch and move!

I starting seeing a registered Dietician in Jacksonville and with the drastic changes in my diet, I have dropped 23.5 pounds so far going from 296.5 to 273. Now I need to start exercising, but I'm completely intimidated by the gym and I just don't want to do it for some reason! Being fat has always been my protection...I was abused all throughout my childhood...and now I'm losing my protection! I'm proud, pumped, and scared all at the same time...I have such al ong way to go and I need to find a way to keep motivated! Any help would be great!

thanks

Just take that first step!

There's no easy way to do it other than take that first step. It can be as small or as big as you like.

I was scared of the gym at first but just remember the people who are they're now we're probably unfit themseves at some point.

I found it useful to sit and write down all my reasons for and against losing weight and going to the gym. When they're down on paper you start to realise how much the for points outwiegh the against!

The other thing I found useful was to go to gym classes. I avoided them mainly to avoid being in the same room as most people and having to keep pace with them. However, when I did start going I soon found those 5 mins chatting with other people before hand and 5 mins after the class really make a difference. You start to turn the gym into a much more social scene and enjoy it so much more.

I guess what I'm saying is just suck it up and give it a go. You'll soon find it's not as bad as you're thinking!

I always made excuses on why I haven't been more active. I was too tired, my knee was bothering me, the weather wasn't nice, yada yada yada, but you have to put that all aside and just get up and do it. My mom baked cookies and the other night and they smelled so good. Instead of giving into my tempation, I went for a really long walk, hoping that when I'd come home, they'd all be gone. Then, last night, I went to the firehouse and walked on our new treadmill for awhile. Hey, if none of the guys were using it, I might as well put it to good use. I'm acutally enjoying working out now and I love how my legs feel when I'm done. If I'm a little achey, I treat myself to 15 minutes in the hot tub to relax! Main thing, is just get up and go!
