Hello everyone,

I have joined this forum site today after searching millions of sites trying to find ways to lose weight!

Im 21 and from Bristol in England. I work in an office for a mobile phone company and sat at a desk all day is not helping me wat so ever! Within the last year i have put on nearly 2 stone thats about 25- 30lbs i think. Either way I have never been one to worry about what I was putting in my mouth as I used to be quite active!
I am willing to try anything but im having trouble with my motivation! I used to be a right Tom Boy and even achieved a black belt in Taekwondo in 2003 and i was probably at the peak of my fitness! All that seems a lifetime away now as my dad pushed and pushed me to get to where i was!

However now im older living with my boyfriend i need to find a new motivation and i need to stick to it (which i never seem capable of doing!) I probably dont eat the right things all the time but i dont have take aways every night! I have been a member of my local gym for about 6 months but its not until recently im going 3 or 4 times a week!

Strangely i seem to have put on more weight :( I have cut down on calories and I have even tried using Alli the weight loss pill and this worked at first but then stopped :( I dont know where to go from here :( i thin im a comfort eater?!

All i know is that i say im going to lose weight all the time ...but this time i want to make a dramatic change ...I just need some motivation, time and determination......and some advice please!!

hello,
Firstly Welcome to the forum, and secondly I understand what your going through, I use to be a big girl almost my whole life, I was 180 pounds going into college and now I have managed to get to around 158 pounds.

It's not easy at all, but it's fun and I am glad that I have support. I play tennis now with my weightloss partner, whom I enjoy spending time with every day. I also go biking for 2 hours each day.. I'm planning on going swimming as well.

These are all things that I strive for each and every day.. on top of that I walk a few hours and take my puppy out for plenty of walks, even little things can change you.

As for the weight gain, I personally have never used weight loss pills and never plan to, but then again that's just me. I remember when I just started working out, I gained some weight during the first few week. At the moment, the weight gain could be due to eating habits or maybe (and I'm not sure) but it could be the weight loss pills?

Just remember to take it slow, think about what your doing today, how much and what your eating and how much your burning.

Well I hope that helps :]

I have a couple of random thoughts....

First, welcome to the community. I truly hope you find something that helps your journey here.

Second, you seem distraught with regards to finding a way to lose weight. Realize there's no reason to stress over the situation. We know what leads to weight loss and it's very, very simplistic math. You need less energy input than output or more energy output than input.

Energy = Calories

In a nutshell, this means you need to eat less and move more. People tend to take that advice to the extreme, which isn't wise. If you're not losing weight though, more than likely you're eating too much.

That said, identifying why you're eating too much would be the logical place to start.

Reasons could be, but aren't limited to:

- Your food choices aren't good (they leave you hungrier than before, malnourished, etc)

- You turn to food for comfort during emotional stress

- You mindlessly, habitually eat during particular time periods most days

- You drink a good bit of alcohol

The list can go on forever. My point is, identify those things that are tripping you up, calorically speaking. Once identified, you can start building an individual plan for improving your chances.

Next, ditch the 'program mentality' and the 'pill mentality.' All these prepackaged products do is waste your time, money, and patience. There's no product out there that's going to be your solution. Sure, there are thousands of advertisements out there who pound it into our brains that they "saved" people from their struggles of weight.

In reality, that's not how things work. Stop looking for the One Right Way and start focusing on small, consistent changes. Having big goals is great, but this MUST be coupled with a good management of expectations.

I suggest reading the stickies on the forum so you get a better understanding of the basics and then, if you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

Lastly, generally speaking, motivation must come from within. Sure, external sources might pump you up for a short while but that'll wear off very fast. You have to cultivate a mindset that's geared for success. Taking inventory of your thoughts, values and beliefs is a great place to start. Just as much work your body requires, so does your mind. You might find something good in and .

Hello and wlecome Elz_xx!

The best advice I can give you is to move your body more. It sounds like your job has made you more sedentary so you need up your activity level more than any other single thing.

The weight didn't appear overnight and won't disappear that way either, but if you start moving your body more, it should drop off the same way it appeared..... (gradually)
