Ladies and gents, I need some advice.

So I'm trying to lose some weight, about 30 pounds, enough to get healthy.
Honestly the thing is, I start out really great. I eat right, I exercise often, and I get enough sleep. And best of all, when I do this, I find I'm WAY happier and I feel WAY better even after only a couple days of living like this. Unfortunately, as is to be expected, life keeps hitting me, and something gets sacrificed because I just don't have time. Usually what happens is either I skip a gym visit because I don't have time, or I don't get enough sleep because I don't have time. When even something small like this happens, everything else falls apart and i start eating badly and before I know it I'm right back to feeling gross and miserable.

My point is, I know life happens, but how do I keep it from making me fall apart? I'm so so happy when I eat well, get enough sleep, and exercise often, but for some reason I have the mentality that it's ALL or NOTHING, you know? If I give up one thing, what's the use of continuing the rest? I know this mentality is not helping me at all, and I was wondering if anyone can help me figure how to stop HINDERING my own PROGRESS! This is really difficult for me.

Honestly you have to make the decision to not throw away progress. A friend of mine uses this analogy all the time and I think it's very appropriate:

If you trip on the top step of the staircase, do you regain your balance and keep going, or do you give up and throw yourself down the stairs in despair?

You just have to make the decision to keep walking, rather than throwing yourself down the stairs.

What you said honestly speaks to me, thats EXACTY how I feel. When I eat right and excercise i'm on top of the world. But, when I eat like crap and stay up late and not work out I feel like a piece of crap. Its hard because you have those cravings and all you want to do is eat.

But before you shove a donut in your mouth or something you know will mess up your diet think about it.

How do I feel when I eat right? Happy, Motivated, Well Rested

then..

How do I feel when I eat crap? Miserable, depressed, low self esteem, exhausted all the time.

I mean compare both and if you're okay with living with low self esteem and no motivation then go ahead and binge and eat bad things. But honestly its hard and I know its hard because no one ever said life is going to be easy.

Hi guys=) It's all about balance...life is such a balancing act! We have to try and get out of that all or nothing thinking. I have a bad habit of it as well! I have lost 40 lbs and kept it off by trying to balance calories in vs. calories out...really it's pretty simple, yet so complicated=) Remember to keep telling yourself that one or two bad days of eating/not exercising is not going to cause you to gain weight. Stay positive and just pick yourself back up and get back on track the next day/week..whatever it may be. Also, if you have trouble finding time to go to the gym, there are so many options for at home! I love P90x, turbokick...and there are so many other dvd's out there to help! You can do it=)promise!

Treat fitness like an obligation

I put all my workouts and runs in my Outlook Calendar at work. If a client or a colleague wants to see me M, W or Fri they have to book around my hour of gym at 1:30pm. If they want to see me Tues or Thurs I'm in an hour late because I'm running. I don't tell them that I just say I'm booked at that time.

How many people cancel a Doctor/Dentist visit because they're busy?

If you have hockey/basketball/football tickets do you cancel because you're busy? Hell no, you plan around it.

Give your health some priority. You may live long enough to not be so busy.
