For some reason, I can't get motivated. I guess its because im so lost with what to do. I'm 213 pounds and 5'3. I really dont look that big most people say, they are shocked when they hear how much I weight :( I just lack the motivation to go to the gym lately.

I really dont know what to do. Id like to be 140 and eventually 110. I want to lose 3 pounds or more a week. Anyone know of any diets that would be good for me? I was also planning on going to the gym four times a week 45-1 hr of cardio and 45-1 hr of strength training. Would that be enough? Like i said im very lost with this stuff.

Thanks!

Well to start with, you aren't 213 lbs. I'm 6"1' and when I was 213 I looked much fatter then you, I'd clock you under the 150 lbs mark.

Second, diets DO NOT work. You have to make small, lifetime changes that you can stick with for the rest of your life. It all comes down to burning more calories than you consume.

Read some of the stickies in the nutrition and exercising boards.

Do you really think your lack of will or consistency stems from a confusion about what you need to do?

Losing weight is quite simple. I understand how complex it can sound with all the conflicting information that gets passed around nowadays. However, it really is a function of eating less and moving more.

Making wiser food choices (natural, unprocessed foods tend to contain less calories) and picking some exercise you can do every day is a great way to start.

You should really spend some time reading thought the stickie threads found at the tops of the various subforums. They are very informational and will help ease your concerns about being lost. If you have specific questions from there, simply ask.

Lastly, you might want to spend some time thinking about questions like:

-why do I want to lose weight?

-what would it mean if I obtain my goals?

-what will it feel like? physically? emotionally?

-what will it cost me if I don't reach them?

-what will it mean to me if I don't reach them?

start with reasonable goals,10 lbs at a time.I don't have any pictures here but I started at 216 and 5'3 and I also didn't look it.I have now lost 30 lbs(186) and people are complimenting me lol I have now adjusted my goal from 140 to 160 and then I'll see how I feel/look when I get there.Having 110 as a long term goal can seem so daunting.I'm not the best on exercise in the beginning I was great with the elliptical...I've slacked off with that but I am still losing because I'm eating less.

Absolutely lovely... and you're correct... it really isn't as hard as we sometimes make it out to be... I think that the biggest hump for me is to change the way I think of things... and this post of yours really helped.

you look healthy in your pic!! I weigh a lot for the way I look too (I am 5'8''ish and weigh 176, but I think I look more like 150-140), but are you sure you are 213lbs?? Is your scale crazy?!

To tell you the truth you aren't going to lose any weight unless you what it 200%. If you want it 90%, that other 10% is going to prevent you from losing that weight.

BE REALISTIC. Realise that you need to set realistic goals.

And the NO JUNK DIET is the one I am on. Just regular eating, just no junk food (ie chips/chocolate) i treat myself with the occassional jello.

Remember it is not just weight loss BUT a new life style. Being fit is important! But yes I agree 140 is a nice realistic goal!

You don't even look fat in the picture you posted. Maybe that's why you don't feel all too motivated...because you're not really that overweight (if you're even overweight at all).

I don't know, you look fine to me. If I had a body like yours, I wouldn't be in too much a rush to lose weight. Also, if I had a body like yours, I would get scared...because I'd be a man with a woman's body. But, that could be cool, you know?

Please don't give anyone that nonsense. There's no such thing as 200%, and 90% easily overcomes 10%. You're just going to confuse people.

That may be your point of view. This is a forum it is a place to state opinions. If you disagree, don't say it is nonsense. I guess you don't understand constructive criticism.

I think people can clearly see that what I mean is that if you don't give it your all you're not going to get there. You need to give it your all to motivate yourself.

And yes there is such thing as 200%. It is called a double up.

It is often the 10%(of being unsure) that sabotages the 90% that we are willing to put in. It only takes a moment of weakness (to food/drink) to wreck a day or week worth of exercise. And as I said before weight loss is a life style. You need a somewhat solid sense of commitment, not an accumulated amount of weaknesses.

Holy crap I'm 2 inches taller than you and about 15lbs lighter and I am wayyyy bigger than you are hun! Are you really 213?? You must be freaking solid steal! You look great!

Is that a old pic?

Cut required quantity of fruits like grapes, banana, papaya, orange,
apple, pineapple, and dates.
Boil some jaggery in a little milk and filter.
Mix every thing slowly with pre boiled cold milk and keep in
refrigerator.
Serve cold.

people say the same thing about me.. i started out at 205 and people are generally shocked.. but.. eh thats what the scale says. when they guess my weight they say 140 - 150.. WRONG!
now i teeter between 190 - 195. my goal is 135 but it seems like it'll take forever mainly because i haven't been keeping to my routine. i go walk/run at the park and it's been COLD.
it's discouraging but i know it just takes consistency. if i did my routine every day i'd be further a long already. and i suppose that is my motivation. to be consistent = goal. now i just need to use that eeh..

People assume that 200 pounds looks like the girls that start out on the Biggest Loser but that's not always the case.

At 190 people guessed me at 150.

You'll get motivated when you're really ready. Most people talk about weight loss for months or years before they start to really work at it.

Exercise is easier to start than changing eating habits right away. I'd say start with the gym and when you start to see results you'll be motivated to eat healthier as well. :)

I'd like to say that at 5'3" 110lbs is way too small, especially if you're going to be building muscle. I'd say 130 or so is a better goal.

Well I finally got motivated as of January 5th everyone, I started doing Weight Watchers and going to the gym 4 times a week, and I lost a total of 21 pounds so far. Just thoughT id share!

Hey that is good news. Congrats on finally making a good start. I never got to see your before picture but it sounds like you don't have as far to go as you thought. Just set short term goals and when you achieve one, give yourself a pat on the back and a smile and then focus on the next goal. I have been doing 10lb goals at a time and it has worked wonders for me. I hit 199 about 2 weeks ago and my next goal is 189 which just so happens to be my final weight goal. It has been quite nice to hit 249, 239, 229, 219, 209, 199 and now to finally be focusing on my final 10 lbs feels awesome.
