I have a question about The Biggest Loser. (biggest looser)

I know there have been threads about it before, but I had one specific question. In the beginning, the first handful of seasons, almost every week the contestants would loose 10+ pounds. Now they are lucky to loose 5. Why has it gone down so much? I assume it has something to do with a change in their training, but why did they change?

I would assume because the less you weigh, the less weight comes off. They've gotten rid of their water weight and the such, so the higher numbers have dropped down to more "normal" numbers.

I'm talking about in the very begining, for the first 5 or so weeks they would loose an average of 15 pounds a week. Now they are lucky to loose 7 in the first few weeks, even the men. I realize it goes down with time, but they are just loosing less and less weight now. I just thought maybe something changed.

I beleive you mean season to season and not week to week, correct? I wouldnt be surprised if they want to make it "more realistic". I know a lot of people didnt watch becuase it wasnt the real world when it came to weight loss. I love the show but it still isnt the real world. They probably wanted more viewers.

Okay, I've confused myself, so I'll clear up what I'm trying to say.

In the first 5 seasons or so, the contestants would loose astronomical amounts of weight. They would loose 15, 20, even 30 pounds a week for the first few weeks they were on the ranch. Then they would drop down to 7-10 pounds a week.

Now they are lucky to loose 10 pounds the first week, and every week after that they don't loose more than 5 or 6 pounds.

So they went from huge amounts of weight loss fast, to slowly loosing mediocre amounts of weight. Even the guys seem to have trouble getting to the 100 pound mark by the end of their time on the ranch.

Why the big change?

I don't know if there's anything specific going on during the biggest loser (I choose not to watch it), but I think it's also important to look at the people too. Not everyone is going to be able to lose the same amount of weight either it's an individual thing.
