I gained 7 lbs!? But I eat healthy & do Track!

Hey, I'm Molly and I'm 15 years old. Today wasn't that great because I got on the scale the first time since November and it read 135, 7 more lbs than back then. I have been eating healthy and I do track, but I don't know how I gained the weight. I can tell I didn't gain muscle because I still have the same fat on me and can tell I didn't lose any.

I'm thinking of buying free weights, but can I actually do alot with just free weights?

I also do 650 crunches a day to try to burn the fat.

My goal is to lose 20 lbs by August, or better by this summer.

My problem I think is exercise. I don't do alot, only track mostly. Do you think that if I get exercise really going I'll see more results? I would do low/long intensity workouts on the stationary bike, and high/long intensity workouts jogging outside. I'd also do stuff with free-weights.

I'm thinking of eating Special K cereal and Slimfasts shakes. What do you think of those?

Well, hopefully I can shed those winter lbs by this summer!

hey! well first of all, what do you mean by eating healthy? Maybe it's not that healthy afterall. Also, first thing i see off the bat...why 650 crunches a day?? That's too many. You should focus on form, rather than quantity, and they don't help in losing fat. They are muscle building exercises. When it comes to the workout routine and cardio to choose, it's probably best to wait for the professionals to answer.

since track is great cardio, and cardio burns fat, i would say that it has to be your diet...if you eat less and do an intense cardio such as track the weight should melt off...also, dont do that many crunches, still do some, but expand your workout to push ups, crunches, leg lifts, squats, lunges...that kind of stuff, if you get the free weights that will open up a whole new world as far as variety of workouts...just search for free weight workouts on google or something...

You're still growing...please don't worry so much about weight!! How tall are you?

You can do all kinds of workouts with weights...the options are endless. What do you do for your track workouts?

650 crunches a day! that's rediculous. no need for more than 50-75 three times a week.

Besides if you have the same fat as before then you have gained muscle.

Don't use the scale to measure, the mirror is much better and don't look for progress too often.

post more about your diet

oh and I agreee with teresa you're only fifteen, no need to worry about your weight

650 crunches are going to do you know good at all, the worst case is you'll get back trouble, the best is you're wasting a hell of a lot of time.

Try adding weights to the crunches and do 3 x 15/20. Its far more effective at strengthening your core and the benefits will be visible. Reverse crunches or a series of yoga moves are also better ways of getting good stomach muscle.

Oh and I forgot...I would say don't go on any special Slimfast diets or Special K. Special K is fine if it's part of your breakfast but I wouldn't recommend going on that Special K diet that they have. Just keep up the healthy eating and let your body keep doing it's thing...easier said than done, I know but since you're still growing don't stress about it so much :)

Oh, I'm also 5'7. I do long jump and Triple jump, so we don't really do that much running. My diet includes...

Fruits
Vegtables
No candy
No soda
Lots of Water
Whole Wheat Bread
No mayo
I usually don't eat anything over 300 calories

Here's an example of my diet...
B- Toasted Oats Cereal w/ skim milk- 180 calories
S- Apple, carrots, ect. Water
L- Salad w/ low fat dressing, fruit, Water
S- Carrots, low fat crackers
D- 1/2 vegtables, 1/4 Protein, 1/4 Starch
S- Fruit

Well you need a healthy diet. Eating salads doesnt constitute a healthy diet. You need to be consuming at least 1500+ calories a day. You can do a lot with free weights, but why not just use your school gym. Try doing some laps before or after track practice. You need to drink lots of water, and eat more protein. Try eating more fish, chicken, turkey, and lean beef. Put two eggs in with your breakfast cereal. You cant lose weight if you dont eat. You want to lose 20 pounds, what is your current weight?

20 lbs? I think you were the one that we all told before that that's not healthy. 135 and 5'7" is FAR from overweight. I'm 5'4" and 133 and don't think I could lose more than a few pounds. If you have any amount of muscle you're not going to be able to be a lower weight.
