I thought I was doing so well- Then this week I over indluged in pizza, Doritos, chocolate and Chinese food- I feel so guilty at having fallen off the wagon. battling food is not unlike battling an alchohol or drug addiction-

Of course feeling guilty about having stuffed my face left me depressed-and I solve that depression by eating- its a vicious cycle- How do I get out of this rut? I need to lose these 50 pounds, my life depends on it..
I can't fully stock my shelves with food, or Ill wind up eating most of it in a short time.....

First, stop beating yourself up over this. We all fall off the wagon now and then. All you can do is pick yourself up and get in the saddle again.

I go shopping every day, and buy only what I need for the next 24 hours. That may be a bit extreme, but it works for me. And I never stock "cheat" food. If I want a chocolate bar, I go to the supermarket and buy just one.

Yes, this is harder than some addiction where you can simply stop cold turkey. You can't do that with food.

You might find that tracking all your calories in a program like FitDay helps, too. That way, it registers on your mind more what you're actually eating, and may give you the strength to turn down really bad foods. It's one thing to eat a 500 calorie junk food and then feel guilty about it; it's a different experience to eat it, and then record it in your daily food log.

Buy a bunch of carrots, bananas, apples, oranges, feta cheese (hard to binge on) Kashi Good Friends cereal (also pretty hard to binge on) and other whole-type foods to keep in the house. Then, if you do binge, it's on good foods.

When I quit smoking and then drinking, I had to remove all smokes and booze from the house. Just to psychologically start thinking clean.

Maybe it's the same with food. I know that since I started eating healthier, we don't have any crap in the house. And I'm not as much craving it, either.

Get up, dust yourself off, and keep thinking forward. We all, to some extent, have compulsive natures, and that compulsivity can be turned around to be used to your advantage.

i totally empathise and sympathise with you. i have a tendency to do the same, feeling totally disgusted with myself each time.for me overeating and eating the wrong sort of food is an addiction. one that led me to gain 7 stone in 8 years.
but i agree with tomO, pick youself up and start again. you may have gained a teeny bit of weight, but dont undo all your good work. i also track my calories on fitday which helps. what also has helped me is a couple times a month having an evening where i treat myself to a few foody treats. this might not work for all as it can be hard the next morning to get back on track, but has stopped me feeling totally deprived and seems to be working.
i do have a small amount of "cheat" food cos of the others in the house. however i tend to get food im not that fond of so i dont overindulge too often. slim

Everyone falls of the wagon. It's not whether you stuck to your diet this week, but whether over the long-term you eat an overall healthy diet and keep exercising.

Just get back on the diet ASAP and pretend that you never strayed.

I allow myself treats during the course of the week, which helps overall. For instance, I have two bite size pieces of dark chocolate a day. At 110 calories, it's a minor indulgence that keeps from going really astray.

My other secrets are to not keep any snacks at home and to brush my teeth after every meal. It really does limit cravings.

I reccommend trying to spread your meals throughout the day; 5-6 meals. If you must have chinise / pizza / all that good stuff, have a little bit now, a little bit later, and a little bit tomorrow.

This has helped me out tremondously.

I think we've all been there. I did this a couple weeks ago but told myself that I would get right back on track and as soon as I did, the scale started dropping quickly. Sometimes having high calorie days can kickstart weightloss when you start back on track. Atleast it does for me. Plan your day for tomorrow telling yourself what you will eat. If you have it in writing, there is no guessing as to what you'll eat..
