Hey time to do a diary I guess!

My journey has just begun really, although I have been overweight most of my adult life (no probs as a kid) and have tried just about everything under the sun! I guess a while ago I just gave up, as I haven't tried to diet for a while, all the stupid plans I had tried did not work or I couldn't stick to them, so I guess somewhere along the line I just thought meh.. all too hard, won't bother trying - and the weight slowly stacked on and on and on!

The list of failed diets... Personal opinion of course!

Israeli Army Diet <---- Just plain stupid like all FAD diets
Scarsdale Diet <---- Hard Hard work 1000 cals a day works well if you can stick it - but is not a long term solution.
Appetite suppressants <---- speed anyone!
Jenny Craig <--- puke! revolting food, foisted on you by pushy (skinny) salespeople oops consultants who have never had a weight problem in their lives and are employed for their sales ability (check job ads if you don't believe me)
Atkins <-------- how to turn a perfectly sane person into a homicidal manic

I grew up in a massively health concious household, with a mother who was always on a "diet" ie; Eat nothing and take lots of laxatives and always in a shitty mood as a result! I have always thought that you needed to eat nothing in order to get a result... WRONG! Turns out that like a lot of crap we believe is just not true. One of the best things that came out of that upbringing though was a love of fresh healthy food.. but over time I have just been eating wayyy too much of it... and have moved further away from the healthy foods, to gourmet (high fat high cal) and as a keen cook, have over the last year especially been trying to master a lot of cooking such as true French - Croissants/ Puff pastry/bread making etc.. and other cuisines which are wonderful, but very calorific, especially if you are "tasting" constantly!!!

Suddenly I am a bloody whale! I sort of knew I was putting on weight (even for me!) but was ignoring it, until recently when for the first time in my life the weight started affecting my health adversely.. (or I started noticing it!) I suddenly have issues with one of my hips and now one of my knees! I never had this before, and am sure it is weight related!

Soooo it was time to plan out what I was going to do about it.. I knew anything "Lose 150 KG in 3 months!" was not going to work.. I had heard good things about Weight Watchers program, but frankly don't want to go to meetings, and don't want to spend that money when I believe I can do this myself with a little support :) I have done a bucket load of research online which has been very empowering!!

This time it is not about losing it fast, it is a lifestyle change! I don't really know how to describe it other than it is a totally new mindset for me, this is forever not just for a short term loss, after I reach goal (long way to go) I will continue to calorie count forever!

I have worked out that given my size/age etc I should be eating about 1500 cals a day to give me a beautiful steady 1kg per week loss, and so that is what I have done! I have greatly up'd the quantity of high fibre foods eaten, and have changed from 2 big meals a day to 6 smaller ones!

It has been a week and I have lost 3kgs already (will come off quicker at first, always does)

Here is an example of what I am eating per day...

Breakfast
1 cups coffee white, 1 sugar,
Oatmeal/Porridge w/ Sultanas and skim milk,
1 cup coffee, skim milk, ½ sugar

Snack
8 walnuts

Lunch
Home made chicken and lentil soup with toasted cheese whole grain roll.

Snack
low fat yoghurt

Dinner
Pork steak Balsamico with steamed veggies and half a pear steamed

Snack
1 pear

Exercise: 40 minute walking briskly

Water (600ml bottles): 6

so far I have not had a moment of feeling deprived or of suffering in any way! Got to learn to live without that sugar though! Talk about Empty calories!

I really do Feeeeeeeeeeeellll good.. I am genuinely excited by this and am looking forward to feeling better and better and better!

Congrats on the new lifestyle change! Counting calories really is the only way to go, it's simple, easy, and you can eat what you want in moderation.

Thanks guys :grouphug:

me/ feelin the lurve!

:D

Today has been good, but I have over eaten a bit breakfast and lunch, not leaving me much for dinner! worked out my love of coffee has cost me 350 cals today!!! Sheez no wonder the weight was piling on!

Lucky I had a pretty light dinner planned (grilled chicken breast, with mushroom/tomato/zuchini sauce) I was going to have wholegrain pasta too, but I think I will give that a miss.

Went for a walk with the doggie for 20 minutes (about all I am up to at the moment, due to sore knee, and now the other leg - ankle) LOL

Today's inspiration song....

oldie but a goodie (bit like me really LOL )

Hey congratulations on making the first step.
I know how you feel with the sugar, its such a hard craving to ignore but I find the more I ignore it the easier it becomes!
Good Luck :)

LMAO!!! That was Grrreat, I love your title!! Welcome to the Forum. :)

Thanks Running Girl and Kirsty!

6.49 am and Today has dawned wet and chilly here.. but it hasn't dampened my spirits! I am still excited about this!!! wooo hoooo...

I asked my dear hubby to change the lovely morning cup of coffee he bring me in bed each day to just plain black and it is not that bad! Hopefully I won't waste 350 Cals on coffee today!!! LOL

Hope you all have a Happy Healthy Day!!!

:jump:

Oh wow, black coffee!! You're brave!

We're having crappy weather today, too. I got caught in it on my run. Sad day!

Congrats on starting your journey and good luck to you!

Nothing like running in the rain! LOL squish squish squish! Think I will stick inside today!

Thanks for your words of encouragement Kimmy!

it's raining here too! although i didn't brave it and run outside today...i turbo jammed, ha. that 'squish squish squish' really made me laugh.

Ahh coffee, I never used to drink the stuff until I started work. Only then because everyone else did. It was one of the first things I dropped and was the easiest.

Although I am a little slower in the morning these days...

That's a great loss for one week, hope I can start as strong.

OH I lurrrrrrvvvvve my coffee! And would be a wreck without it in the mornings especially! I have decided that one Skim Milk Latte a day with a sugar for my mid morning snack.. that will be my special treat! It is only 90 Cals... so not even bad, and something that I can have everyday without feeling guilty, so long as I only have black coffee any other cup I have.

Hey kori!!

Black Coffee....Yummmmmm...Thats what gets me on my exercise bike every morning. You can have the hazlenut or vanilla kind without hardly any calories but those mocha latay (dont even know how to spell it) grande frapppalicious, syrup ladden, creme filled candy coffee (ha ha) will get cha!
Good job on your positive changes
