Hey time to do a diary I guess!
My journey has just begun really, although I have been overweight most of my adult life (no probs as a kid) and have tried just about everything under the sun! I guess a while ago I just gave up, as I haven't tried to diet for a while, all the stupid plans I had tried did not work or I couldn't stick to them, so I guess somewhere along the line I just thought meh.. all too hard, won't bother trying - and the weight slowly stacked on and on and on!
The list of failed diets... Personal opinion of course!
Israeli Army Diet <---- Just plain stupid like all FAD diets
Scarsdale Diet <---- Hard Hard work 1000 cals a day works well if you can stick it - but is not a long term solution.
Appetite suppressants <---- speed anyone!
Jenny Craig <--- puke! revolting food, foisted on you by pushy (skinny) salespeople oops consultants who have never had a weight problem in their lives and are employed for their sales ability (check job ads if you don't believe me)
Atkins <-------- how to turn a perfectly sane person into a homicidal manic
I grew up in a massively health concious household, with a mother who was always on a "diet" ie; Eat nothing and take lots of laxatives and always in a shitty mood as a result! I have always thought that you needed to eat nothing in order to get a result... WRONG! Turns out that like a lot of crap we believe is just not true. One of the best things that came out of that upbringing though was a love of fresh healthy food.. but over time I have just been eating wayyy too much of it... and have moved further away from the healthy foods, to gourmet (high fat high cal) and as a keen cook, have over the last year especially been trying to master a lot of cooking such as true French - Croissants/ Puff pastry/bread making etc.. and other cuisines which are wonderful, but very calorific, especially if you are "tasting" constantly!!!
Suddenly I am a bloody whale! I sort of knew I was putting on weight (even for me!) but was ignoring it, until recently when for the first time in my life the weight started affecting my health adversely.. (or I started noticing it!) I suddenly have issues with one of my hips and now one of my knees! I never had this before, and am sure it is weight related!
Soooo it was time to plan out what I was going to do about it.. I knew anything "Lose 150 KG in 3 months!" was not going to work.. I had heard good things about Weight Watchers program, but frankly don't want to go to meetings, and don't want to spend that money when I believe I can do this myself with a little support
I have done a bucket load of research online which has been very empowering!!
This time it is not about losing it fast, it is a lifestyle change! I don't really know how to describe it other than it is a totally new mindset for me, this is forever not just for a short term loss, after I reach goal (long way to go) I will continue to calorie count forever!
I have worked out that given my size/age etc I should be eating about 1500 cals a day to give me a beautiful steady 1kg per week loss, and so that is what I have done! I have greatly up'd the quantity of high fibre foods eaten, and have changed from 2 big meals a day to 6 smaller ones!
It has been a week and I have lost 3kgs already (will come off quicker at first, always does)
Here is an example of what I am eating per day...
Breakfast
1 cups coffee white, 1 sugar,
Oatmeal/Porridge w/ Sultanas and skim milk,
1 cup coffee, skim milk, ½ sugar
Snack
8 walnuts
Lunch
Home made chicken and lentil soup with toasted cheese whole grain roll.
Snack
low fat yoghurt
Dinner
Pork steak Balsamico with steamed veggies and half a pear steamed
Snack
1 pear
Exercise: 40 minute walking briskly
Water (600ml bottles): 6
so far I have not had a moment of feeling deprived or of suffering in any way! Got to learn to live without that sugar though! Talk about Empty calories!
I really do Feeeeeeeeeeeellll good.. I am genuinely excited by this and am looking forward to feeling better and better and better!
