Hi there!

I am a brand new member and I've been struggling with weight gain over the past year and I'm not sure why. I'm a 36 year old woman and my weight ranges from 133-137 lbs which is 8 to 10 pounds more then just a couple of years ago. I workout every day for a minimum of 90 minutes, 60 to 90 minutes of cardio or 60 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight training. My diet is typically toast or english muffin with non-fat cottage cheese in the morning, banana as a snack, half a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch, yogurt for a snack, and dinner is some sort of vegetable creation (i'm a vegetarian) and a dish of non-fat or low fat frozen yogurt for dinner. I only drink water and one cup of black coffee a day so I'm not drinking too many calories. Any insight as to why I can't get back down to 125-128 pounds would be super helpful.

Thanks from a brand new member :)

I would suggest logging your food and exercise here each day so that not only you can look for patterns and problems but other members can as well.

when you don't write everything down it is easy to completely forget about something you may have snacked on. Writing down quantities (or calories) is also good as it is possible to over eat on even the healthiest of diets.

time spent at the gym on exercise does not always equal intensity without more information it is hard to tell if your spending your time effectively.

How many calories in an average day?
You might be eating UNDER what you should be which is a reason many people find they end up not dropping any weight. Also, exercising every day is not healthy--You need to have at least one rest day for your body to recover. I feel that perhaps you're going at this too extreme and the reason you're not losing weight is because your body has gone into shut down mode due to the stress.

Also, welcome to the forum! I'm not an expert so wait around and see if others respond (the forum is quiet today so give it a while!) to get more advice but I'd start taking it easier. It sounds like a contradiction..doing too much exercise and eating too little is BAD for losing weight but it's true!

Hi and welcome!!

From my limited knowledge - it sounds like your diet may need some work. It does not appear to be very balanced.
A few more questions that might be helpful:
How tall are you? What kind of weight training and cardio are you doing? What country are you in? What type of job do you have (sedentary desk job, active heavy lifting job, etc.)

Again welcome! I hope you are able to find what you are looking for here.

exercise obsession?

thank you so much for all the replies!

I am 5'7" tall and live in the USA. Unfortunately my job keeps me sitting all day, every day. My workouts tend to be pretty intense on most days. Monday is cardio kickboxing, Tuesday is one hour spin class (morning) plus a 40 minute strength training class (night), Wednesday is 4 mile run and a 75 minute bosu boot camp class (intense interval/weight training), Thursday is a 4 mile run and a 45 minute spin class, Friday is a 1 hour spin class plus 30 minutes on the stair climber, Saturday is 45 minutes of weight training and some sort of cardio, and Sunday is running intervals plus 30 minutes of weight training. I also try and swim for 30 minutes each week. I also make sure to do one minute planks every night and stretching.

I feel like I have an abnormal obsession with exercise but my weight doesn't show it as I keep gaining.

Thanks again for everyones advice/support!
