I Don't Understand About Diamonds...

Camy:
Oh, well it's nice to know i'm not alone in the world with my phobia. I mean, I know there are people out there that have it as well, but it's nice to actually KNOW someone who understands my phobia and won't look at me like i'm crazy. It's weird because when I'm in the process of throwing up or I had just thrown up I realize it's not so bad, but that same day I'll be back to being scared. It's the worst thing to be scared of cause it's such a natural act.

I just dont think im so into that counting calories or recording what I eat. I only eat a few times a day. Counting calories actually makes me want to eat less which is not good because I've cut down my calories by about 2000. Which I know is bad, but like I've said to someone before I can't help it because of the particular diet i'm on.

I've actually never had problems with Splenda (the only artificial sweetner I use). No problems yet. I have to use Splenda because with the amount of sweetner I use, 7 splenda's in one cup of coffee that would equal more than 10 real sugars. Plus, this is probably going to sound really weird but I like the taste of Splenda better than sugar. Well, with my coffee and tea anyway.

Thanks for all the information you gave me. :)

Adam:
I do bring my own lunches, but of course I still have the cravings for...good tasting food. I actually cant have rice because im on a low carb/no carb diet which means no starchy foods. Thanks for the suggestions though hun.

The only reason I drink coffee on my shift is to fill me up and I have 7 splenda's in a 16 oz cup. I rarely drink soda and if it is soda it's diet soda. I drink tons and tons of water, probably more than im suppose to. By the way, that's a brilliant idea about drinking water before soda.

I'm not doing so well. I'm not having much trouble with eating. The cravings have kind of diminished a bit and it's just overall easier to not eat bad foods. Now it's the fact that after work i'm just way too tired to go to the gym and workout. I feel extremely guilty and just down on myself that I don't go. I feel like if I don't go i'm not going to lose any weight at all. I thought about going walking at night with my boyfriend, but I don't know if walking is enough.

I talked to my mom and told her that I'm probably going to cancel my gym membership cause I don't go. She told me not to. That I should just start walking at least 3 days a week and after I lose some weight I'll have more energy and will probably want to go to the actual gym to workout.

What I really want to do is take at least 3 months off so I will have the energy and whatnot to go to the gym, but that's not happening.

So, I need advice. Do you think walking 3 days a week is good enough? What should I do...?

All I know is that I didn't have enough energy to do both healthy eating and exercise until I was about 4 weeks in, and I weigh a lot less than you, so I can totally see where you're coming from. Don't force yourself. As you get more energy it should come naturally that you want to expend it somehow! Just be optimistic!

hey ohdiamonds, how are you?

I completely understand your dilemma and it's the same reason why I don't currently have a gym membership. I don't make enough money for me to be able to miss gym often. It is too much of a wasted investment for me. Everything I can do in a gym(well, almost everything) I can do for free outside.

I think you should start walking with your boyfriend at night for sure. It will not even some like exercising and you will get to spend some quality time together. I personally have lost 40lbs (about 3 years ago) just walking and dieting mildly. Just make sure you walk for a least 30 minutes, and try to increase it to an hour a day if you can make the time.

Good luck,

Hey, diamonds. don't stress so much on the gym at this point. Right now you are focusing on getting your eating in order. That is the first step. When you are comfortable with how you are doing food wise and you are ready to add in the exercise, then you do that. Too many people try to change everything all at once. When that doesn't work, they throw in the towel.

That being said, walking three times a week is great. Be careful about saying "just" walking. It's a bit of a sore point with Mal. She's lost nearly 200 pounds "just" walking. Don't underestimate it. :driving:

Okay, I feel even better now. I think what I'll do is walk 3 MAYBE 4 times a week for 30 minutes and add 1 minute or a couple more minutes every week until I can actually start jogging without feeling like im going to throw up my lungs.

When I was 5'10" and 108lbs I played volleyball which on my team involved tons and tons of running and jumping. That year I played volleyball I dislocated my knee, got shin splints and than somehow got 4 hairline fractures in each shin. So, I am no longer a fan of running (for obvious reasons) but I think jogging should be okay.

Anyways, enough with my dumb stories lol. Sorry I haven't stopped by any of your journals I've been extremely busy.

Plateau

Plateauing can be one of the biggest reasons why ppl get discouraged on their diets. It just happens.

Stay focused, change your routine up a bit, and stay positive.

:)

Hey diamond,
any exercise is better than no exercise. I have lost most of my weight by mainly swimming and eating correctly, but I lost quite a lot whenever I was on holidays, because I will walk a lot to see the town, so I think walking is excellent.

Omega has walked off more than half of her weight in the past 2 years, she is an awesome lady from England and she is very very determined.

Plateauing sucks, I had one for a while and no matter how much I ate or how much I exercised I would not go lower than 145 pounds. I was so mad, then one week I relaxed and ate more than usual and suddenly I went lower. Now I am 10 pounds below that and there seems to be constant movement when I am working towards it, even half a pound is movement! And most importantly when I am ot consciously trying to lose, I maintain pretty easily (since I am fairly close to goal, that is important to me).
Don't give up, maybe just relaxing and not being so centered on this will make it all easier. If you don't want to waste money on the gym, don't, there is plenty of stuff you can do without a gym. You can walk and run and jog outdoors, you can exercise and muscle train at home with homemade weights (such as waterbottles). But you need to be one of those people who actually do stuff a home. I will do stuff if I manage to go to the gym or the pool, but at home I would never get it together to work out!
If you feel selfconscious, you can get workout videos for at home (there used to be a girl here who had lost over 100 pounds just with those home workout videos), and then once you feel better about yourself you can go to the gym.

So, there are a lot of options, just relax and look what fits into your life best and there will be people everywhere (including here) who tell you: you should do this or you shoudl do that, but in the end you have to do what fits into your lifestyle best!
I was told to do weights, yeah maybe it would have helped me lose quicker, but it is just not my thing and I can force myself to do weights ocne or twice but then I will stop and what is the use in that? I'd rather swim daily, something I enjoy, than do weights every couple of weeks.

Anyhow, I hope you find YOUR style quickly, hugs, Camy

Where ya been hun? No new posts? We miss you...

I've been working and work has been stressing me out like you wouldn't believe. I work with a lot of hypocritical, judgemental, lazy liars. Every word I just used is every word they truly are. It's so unbelievably draining. Anyways, I miss chatting with you and I'll have to get online soon. Maybe tonight or tomorrow. I usually spend more time on the computer on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

I wish so badly that I could swim. I LOVE swimming and I know swimming helps tons with losing weight and staying fit. I just can't get myself to wear any kind of swimsuit in a public place. I guess that means i'm stuck with walking for now. It's nice to hear that walking does help. Thanks for the suggestions on workouts. Hopefully I can find some kind of exercise I love doing and even if I don't love doing it, find something that can help with losing weight.

Burnsrunner - Thanks for that note of encouragement! :)

Diamonds, I understand about the swimsuit thing. No body want to have their flaws shown to the world, and swimsuits do not hide all that much. (With guys we get even less.) You'll get there, but nothing brings out confidence like achievement. You go to the pool and swim a mile, I don't care if you look like Jabba the Hut in a Steve Buscemi mask, you got me impressed. :cheers2:

Working with assholes is one of the worst things. I'd rather have a bad job with good people then a good job with assholes. I've had both. Any chance of changing jobs in the near future?

Hi Trops :). I definitely agree with your statement about achievement bringing out confidence. I cannot wait to reach the goals I've set for myself.

I think confidence is a huge thing for me because that's also another reason
I'm not looking for another job at the moment. Finding a new job involves buying a new outfit for that job unless it's another fast food job. Buying a new outfit while being overweight = waste of money I need for bills. I'd rather wait until I've lost a bit of weight to look for a new job. That way I can keep those new work clothes for a while and also just feel better wearing them. Bleh, depressing lol.

Anyways, thought I would mention something quite shocking to you guys. I cheated for a week and I mean pizza, burger king, mcdonalds, panda express. I know, I know sooooo bad and just icky. However, I weighed myself today and I actually lost a few oz's instead of gaining all that weight back. I thought for sure that I was not only going to be back at my heighest weight, but over. I'm still in shock actually. I ate nothing but JUNK and never exercised yet didnt gain any weight. I called my mom and she said thats a sign that my metabolism is changing. Is that true?

Now that I've found that out, I'm really motivated and just happy :hurray:.
The 24th is my month mark and due to cheating I doubt very much that I'll hit my 15 lb lost mark. I'm still going to keep going though.

Glad to hear that you are happy! A good mood really can help, and you've lost a decent amount for teh time you've been doing this. You're getting it hun. BTW, If I can get on for a chat later I will. Gotta see how my night goes.

Hey ohdiamonds,

That is sweet that you didn't gain any weight. I wouldn't say it's your metabolism is changing but I'm no doctor. What I would say that it doesn't matter one way or the other if it's motivating you since that's what you really seem to be missing.

I know you can continue to lose weight as long as you keep focused on your goals and stay motivated, your headed for success.

So, it's been a month since I've been on the diet. I've exercised once, cheated about 7 or 8 days and I've lost 8 lbs. and 4 oz.

Today has been a horribly stressful day and i'm really wanting to cheat, but I keep telling myself no and hopefully saying no will stick throughout the day if not..oh well.

Not much else is going on.

Hey Diamonds, glad to see you popping in. Sorry you're feeling stressed. Go ahead and vent, you'll get support here, hun. Whatever it takes to get through the day ya know?

Hey diamonds! Congrats on the 8lbs! in one month that is a hell of a lot of weight, especially if you have had a few bad days :) Way to go on sticking to your guns about your healthy eating when you're stressed! just tell yourself: Eating fries isn't going to take this stress and frustration away. If anything it will just ADD to it because you'll get mad at yourself for cheating after. Just keep things in perspective. You can do it!! :D
