I Don't Understand About Diamonds...

...and why men buy them.
What's so impressive about a diamond.
Except the mining.

Anyways, it was about time for me to start one of these. My name is Collette and i'm 22 turning 23 on January 1st, not that my age matters much I guess.

Once upon a time I was 5'10" and 108 lbs (yes I know too skinny), I was put on anti-depressants and slowly started gaining weight until I reached 5'10" and 273 lbs. I can't look in the mirror anymore without wanting to carve the fat off with a knife. I haven't bought clothes for 6 years and when I go out all I wear are sweats and big tee's. It's gotten so bad that I haven't even been able to go on a simple date with my boyfriend of 3 years. I'm done being that person now. It's time to start a new journey.

My first goal is 150 lbs with no date set. If I like how I look and feel by 150 lbs I will go no further and will continue to maintain my weight at that point. However, if I'm not quite happy with that goal the lowest goal I've set is 130 lbs.

I started my diet on October 24th and have lost 5.2 lbs so far. I cheated from the 30th -1st of November and on the 2nd was back on track. I didnt gain any weight during the cheat but didn't lose any either.

I will probably post pictures of me before I gained weight and than at my heighest sometime soon. I guess that's all for now.

Greetings,

Welcome to the board, I'm new here too and this place is a great support group. Why don't you post some goals? How about your diet? Sounds to me like whatever your doing is working if you've already lost 5 pounds, good job!

5.2 pounds = 18,200 calories burned!!

I also sympathize with you on the anti-depressants. When I was 11 my parents split, they put me on Paxil, and took me out of sports cause I wasn't doing good in school. I gained all kinds of weight on that crap, and it didn't seem to make me feel any better, just "numbed" my feelings.

Hello Adam,

I covered my goals in my initial post, but if you're talking about something else to do with goals than please explain.

My diet is pretty much the South Beach diet but I never go into phase 2 and I changed it up a bit . I don't eat bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, none of the high starchy foods. However, I do eat tons and tons of fruit and flavored yogurts which is prohibited in the first phase but like I said I’m changing it up. ;)

So basically meats, veggies, fruits and yogurts. I went from eating 3,700 calories a day to about 1200 sometimes less. I know that’s probably really bad, but it just turned out that way.

I was also on Paxil for a little while, but than they took me off it because of all the bad things they were finding out about it. Instead I went on Effexor and that helped with my stability, but obviously not my weight. Now I’m mentally healthy, but not physically. I cannot wait to be both. Thanks for your input. :D

Saw this while searching the boards. Thought I'd give it a go since I'm extremely bored right now.

1. What is your current height and weight?
I'm 5'10". I weigh myself every week and tomorrow is my week mark, but last time I weighed myself it was 268 lbs.

2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
150-130 lbs.

3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
At least 240/230 lbs.

4. Why do you want to lose weight?
Mainly for my health (high cholestrol, blood pressure, and triglycerides). Secondly, to feel comfortable in clothes and not have my stomach get in the way of things. Thirdly, I want to look amazing for my boyfriend.

5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
No. I would like to go out to dinners and things though. Right now, I'm not even confident enough to look for a new job.

6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
My job. I work at Burger King and you smell the food, you want to eat the food. Also it's so hard for me to work out after a long day at work.

7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
I've known it since the day I started gaining weight. I just never did anything about it.

8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
If I could find a job that doesnt involve being around food for more than 8 hours, that would be nice. Other than that, dieting.

9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
The same diet i'm on now: my own version of the South Beach Diet.

10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
I wasn't motivated enough, guilt and not fully understanding weight loss itself.

11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
Too strict of a diet. Because it was too strict, lol.

12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
I tried, but that just made me feel even more guilty. I know what I should and shouldnt eat and thats enough for me.

13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
I HAVE to now. I kind of suck at stove top cooking, but anything that I can bake in an oven i'm a pro at. I cook any thing and everything as long as its within the boundaries of my diet.

14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
I use to almost everyday. Now that im on a diet, never.

15. What are your three favorite foods?
Pasta, bread and gravy, and more pasta. While on a diet, fruits and I mean TONS of it, fried bologna, and orange juice (even though thats not a food).

16. What are your three favorite restaurants?
Panda Express, Taco Bell, and that's it. I've never gone to a formal restaurant because i'm ashamed of how I look.

17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
No prepackaged meals, no fast food, cut out all the main starches (bread, rice, pasta) and no chips or candy. Only diet sodas if I even choose to drink soda at all.

18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
Everything, literally everything. That would be a dream come true.

19. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Nope. Sometimes I don't even eat when im hungry.

20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
No and if I even come close it's just healthy stuff like banana's, apples, yogurts, etc.

21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
I use to be ashamed when I stood in the grocery line, but not anymore! :D

22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
No, I eat when i'm happy, I gained almost 100 lbs since I met my boyfriend 3 years ago. Oh my god..thats so sad.

23. Do you eat as a reward?
I'll reward my self every so often, because if I don't than i'll just fall off again.

24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
Definitely while watching tv/movies. Not so much around the computer because I actually am doing stuff while on the computer. My hands are too busy to pick up food and eat.

25. What do you normally eat for a meal?
Breakfast: Coffee. Either chicken soup without noodles or chicken, salad with grilled chicken & one package of honey mustard dressing, or left overs from the night before. On the weekends, its eggs and some sort of meat with coffee of course.

Lunch: Soup, fried bologna or spam (of course fat free or very low fat), 3 kinds of fruits, sometimes yogurt.

Dinner: Meatloaf, taco salad without shells instead with lettuce, chili, turkey with veggies. Normal just meats and veggies.

26. What type of snacks do you eat?
Fruits, low fat yogurt, low carb icecream (every once in a while).

27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Nothing really, I need to start. I'm thinking about walking tonight if it doesnt rain so fingers crossed.

28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
Local gym and walking outside if possible.

29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
Right now, I don't enjoy exercising. However, I do bike and walk on the treadmill.

30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
Not being winded, buying a whole new wardrobe, and having my parents, brother and my boyfriend proud of me.

31. Do you have rewards for certain goals?
My biggest reward will be a new wardrobe and than going out on first date with my boyfriend.

Today was my 2 week mark and I've lost 7.8 lbs without any exercise. Can't imagine how much I'd lose with lots of exercise. I might try that out these next 2 weeks. I'm trying to be down at the LEAST 15 lbs within my month mark, so November 24th I'd like to be down to 258. So that's my mini goal for the time being and to actually exercise.

Today all I hate was 2 bananas, some rib meat, coleslaw, and baked beans.

I haven't eaten much today. I ate an apple, some meat, veggies, and beans and that's it. I'm not feeling much support through family, boyfriend and not really on this website either. I dunno, today isn't really good...

Hey, diamonds. Sorry to hear that you are in a funk. I get in my own funk from time to time. I hope you shoot out the way I do. Full steam ahead. Don't judge the board too harshly. Weekends here can be pretty slow. I think a lot of people jump on at work, and then when they are off on the weekends they are busy back sliding. (myself included :D)

Have you been tracking your calories anywhere? It doesn't sound like you are eating enough food. restricting your food intake is only part of the battle. Sure it's a big part, but if you go too low you are sabotaging the effects as well as your willpower.

Oh, and the above quote? I love diamonds. Love the way they grab the light and just make the whole room shine. If I had the money my lovely wife would be dripping with diamonds. :D

Thanks so much for coming in here and responding. I really could use the support right now.

I tried counting calories at first and it honestly just stressed me out more than I already am. I'm guessing I eat anywhere from 900 - 1500 or a little higher. I use to eat about 3,700 so I cut it down quite a bit, but its working and im not particularly hungry all the time. I'm trying really hard to control my cravings because that is my main problem with food and in order to do that I have to cut out a lot of stuff (which means cutting out a lot of calories). I guess im just upset because my mom and my boyfriend want me to lose this weight just as much as I do if not more, yet aren't acting as if they're proud of me. Is it childish to feel upset because of that?

If I had diamonds I would cash them in for money, lol. Thats VERY sweet of you that you'd want to do that for your wife.

Hey!
I just wanted to come on here and say CONGRATS on your realization with the chewy peanutbutter bars! (I read it in the Cheating thread :p) Yeah, you're probably trying to stay away from those kinds of foods, but GOOD FOR YOU for realizing that you ate one and STOPPED after that! You're only a few weeks in, and you can't be too hard on yourself now. Also, congrats on the 7.8 lbs loss! I agree with Trops though, if you don't have FitDay or SparkPeople you should check it out and make sure you're getting enough calories. I too find it really hard to eat enough when I'm 'dieting' because sometimes your will power is so strong that you want to be really strict to make up for all the times when you've slipped up. don't let it happen. Educate yourself and be strong!! :)

Hope to hear more from ya' soon

I had the same problem with counting calories. I tried it for a while, but I got too obsessed with it. "Oh, my God! I can't eat an apple because it will up my daily by a hundred calories!" Yeah, that was a good week of starving. What I've been doing instead is really trying to get a handle on just part of my calories. What I focus on is proteins. I'll try to get some good proteins in a few times a day. FF Yogurt, chicken breast, high protein/high fiber cereal, beans. All that is good stuff and the calories will help facilitate fat loss. The rest of my diet I try to mix in vegetables, but now and then my family says enough and I have to make spaghetti or something like that.

As far as the support from your boyfriend and mother, well, you have to decide why you are doing this. Are you doing it for them or for you. Sure they might say that they want to support you, but in the end, it's your decisions. You are going to fight this, and you are going to succeed. There is a good thread on here about "why I don't want to lose weight" It sounds counter intuitive, but there is some good stuff in there. If I can find it I'll post the link.

Awww, you are so sweet! Thank you so much for giving me support and putting a smile on my face.

I do have an account at FitDay, but sometimes it's really hard to count calories because you have to literally measure your food out (which im just not a fan of) and some foods I eat don't have calorie labels on them. I probably sound like im making excuses, but it's quite stressful sometimes. Oh and when I did actually use my account and saw how many calories I was eating I felt bad even though it was all healthy foods. For example, fruit is extremely high in carbs which is the main thing im trying to restrict.

It's things like this, "I too find it really hard to eat enough when I'm 'dieting' because sometimes your will power is so strong that you want to be really strict to make up for all the times when you've slipped up." that make me feel not so alone. So thanks loads again. You don't know how much better you've made me feel.

I think you read my mind about that apple part, because seriously that is exactly what I said to myself lol. I do need to start introducing more protein in my diet I just have this huge issue with cooking meat and being scared it's not cooked properly and I'll get sick (im probably weirding you guys out with all the strange things im telling you today). I do try to eat yogurt at the least once a day and I love beans so eat a lot of that as well.

I do something that you guys might find weird and that is I take 98% fat free bologna and fry it with olive oil and eat that without bread or anything. It fufills my "i want fast food NOW" craving and fills me up. Probably not the best choice, but I definitely dont eat it everyday.

I'm actually doing it for both, mainly for me though. However, I think im going to have to sort out my priorities pretty soon. I need to learn that being proud of myself is good enough and that I shouldnt need other people to be proud of me as well.

See, and I will under cook my meat hoping that I get one of those diseases and lose 30 pounds in two weeks. :D No luck so far. :toetap05:

Sorry you were in a funk-- that is where I was yesterday. To add protein
have you considered cottage cheese? I eat a lot of eggs also-- the whites are pure protien. Hang in there!!

Heyas, I used to work in fast food and I know how that can be.

Some tips I wish I would've known: (though to be honest back when i worked at wendys I didn't care what I ate. so it wouldn't have mattered for me, bleh)

Pack a lunch if you can. If not I know a whopper jr without cheese is 370 calories, with cheese 420. Take off the mayo and that will drop more. really high in sodium has .5g transfat and 6g of saturated fat. So not ideal, but calorie wise its passable. Graden salad (no dressing or chicken) is 90 calories. The tendergrill chicken garden salad is 400 calories (without dressing) The Ken's Light Italian Dressing is 120 calories. If you can bring your own or go wtihout though, thats a huge help. Still 520 calories isn't bad. Stay away from the soda and fries and you're good.

I totally have the same thing about cooking chicken and meat. I always overcook my chicken, I get completely paranoid.

Friend bologna is sooo good. I used to make sandwiches with friend bologna and cheese.

Stick in there, I know its tough but I would give counting calories one more shot. Its very easy to either under-eat or over-eat if you are just kinda guessing. If you are losing weight its not so important unless your under-eating. Its better to be sure you don't go too low.

I wish I wasn't so paranoid about how well cooked my meat is. I'm an emetophobic, so it's actually more than just paranoia with me.

I actually don't like cottage cheese in the least bit. I LOVE cheddar cheese and Gouda though. I do eat eggs as well, love eggs. Thanks for the suggestions hun.

I actually do pack my lunch. However, my ONLY problem with weight loss is I have very strong cravings for fast food or just junk food in general. For me it's not an emotional thing, or a "i'm hungry i'm not getting enough calories" thing, it's literally just a craving problem and I don't know how to stop the cravings.

Finally someone else who likes fried bologna or even bologna in general. :hurray:

Hey i am WITH YOU on the bologna boat. Garlic bologna, mm mm! I could eat that stuff all day. When I was a kid it was the only lunchmeat I would eat.

Keep up the awesome work, I know it's so easy just to grab a fry, but think about it: You BROUGHT a tasty, delicious nutritious lunch that will make you feel sooooo much better after eating than that crap will. I'm the same as you: I'm not an emotional eater (unless happy is one of the emotions ;)) or a binge eater, I just have some cravings that are so strong! It's literally an addiction!

Have a great night, ttysoon :)

Yeah, those cravings are a bitch. Don't I know it. It will hit me hungry or not. My thing is I can't give in just a little. I know it works for some people to have one small piece of chocolate or whatever and then the cravings are gone. No, for me it just multiplies the cravings till I'm shoving it in faster then ...:willy_nilly: well you get the idea. No, it's gotta be nothing for me.

The only lunchmeat I ever ate was salami or bologna. Heaven in meat form :drool5:. It's nice to know other people are in the same boat as me about the cravings. It honestly is like an addiction for me.

It's the same with me! If I eat one little bite of something i'm going to want the entire thing or many of whatever it is I bit off of. I really wish there was some kind of medicine or some treatment of some sort to stop the cravings. I should invent something like nicotine for smokers, but instead for food cravings. That would solve all my issues, lol.

I planned on being more active these next two weeks but seems my plans were squashed by falling down some stairs. Hopefully my soreness goes away in the next day or two. Cause im trying to hit my goal of 15 lbs total loss by the 24th. I'm feeling so discouraged and just bleh.

I really do appreciate everyones support, I can't say it enough. So thank ya'll so much again.
