I don't think I'm ready for this jelly :)

Salut forumites and fellow noobs! Lovely to meet you.

So, the intro: I smoked a pack a day for 15 years. Just quit the cancer sticks this past September, and while I feel a gazillion times better, I've got two brand-spankin' new handfuls of jelly on my belly (and everywhere else).

I've put some of the money saved from not smoking into getting healthier groceries, some dumbells, a yoga mat and one of those huge-ass balls. Starting to put muscle back on, but the fat isn't going anywhere, so I'm just here to lurk and hopefully get-give some motivation and support along the way.

My focus is on regular exercise, nutrition and losing these pinchable inches. While I'd love to get my old high school GI Jane body back, for now I want to see if I can just get back into my pre-quit-September clothes. :)

Thanks much for reading, and I'll see you on the boards!

Hello Geeky. Welcome.

I remember that thing about quitting and the resulting weight gain. I was just talking about it today in fact. That's when my really bad eating habits more or less started.

This is all 13 or so years ago now.

At first i was really good and took up running at the same time as i quit because i need to replace the oral habit with something good. But i can't remember what happened but i fell off the wagon and gradually i got fat and ate more bad food.

I tackled it from time to time with varying degrees of success since then. I now think i can do this for the long haul.

Sounds like you are going about it in the right way with your nutrition exercise recipe.

It does require constant self control. I use the word vigilance.

I like keeping a diary where i record my food and activity and whatever else. Its part of keeping the focus going and i'm going to do it for a year while i institute some new habits and get through a few expected rough patches.

We each ahve to find our own path but hanging around here you can pick up some other tips and things too. And support when you need it.

Goodluck.

Andrea

Thank for the welcome, Trusylver and Andrea! :waving:

btw, I really appreciate your empathy, 44. :) Cool to hear that you've been able to stop smoking and learned how to keep the weight off over the long haul! Good for you!

I'm looking forward to checking out more of the site, and especially reading some of the diaries, so I'll keep my eyes open for yours when I get there.

lol no i haven't yet succeeded in keeping the weight off in the long haul. Its what i am intending to do. I only joined here recently.

My diary is the link at the bottom of this post.
