Hello, my name is Chance. I am 16 years old, I am 6'2 and the heaviest I have been in my life(266lbs). I have gained this wait over the past 4 years and do not know where to start to get motivated/ start losing weight. I do not eat fast food or drink soda and usually only have 2 meals a day. I started gaining this wait I think because we moved, I used to live in an apartment and had a lot of neighbors / friends to go outside and do things with, now we live more out in the country so I don't have much things to do outside so I am not motivated to go out there.

Please message me or reply here with any tips.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Chance.

The first thing you need to to is start logging the food that you are eating in this thread so you can see what needs to be changed to reverse the weight gain. The food log will also help other members to make suggestions.

at 16 a good option to get your physical activity up is to seek out a sport you may enjoy, this will get your fitness up and help you make new friends in your new location.

Hi Chance & welcome to the forum. Trusylver's advice is good. Find a sport you may enjoy. Having the advantage of youth you also have the advantage of having more elastic skin and you are still growing muscle. It is a good idea to list the food you eat & I'm sure you will get some help & suggestions on how to improve your diet.

Okay. So I don't know what my goal is yet because I don't know what is reasonable I don't really know much about weight loss. I made a bet with my mom saying if lose 10+ pounds in a month she would give me 100$ so I guess that's a little motivation.

: Today I ate -
- a burger with tomato and bacon at 6:30(EST).
- half a ice cream sandwich 10:30(EST).

Note: I walked to the end of my road (a little more then a half mile) before I ate the burger.

Also, can anyone recommend a good starting YouTube video to follow along too? That would be an amazing help.

Hey chance, welcome to the forum. Your food is not looking fantastic to be honest... without knowing how the burger was made it's hard to guess calories but maybe 750 for the burger and then around 120 for half an ice cream sandwich. So you've obviously not eaten enough calories yesterday but have eaten the wrong sort of calories in terms of it all being junk food.. You said you didn't eat junk food or soda but burgers and ice cream sandwiches sound a little like junk food to me.. unless the burger was home-made, lean mince etc?

Is your mom doing your cooking for you? Why no lunch or breakfast? Did you not leave the house yesterday apart from the half a mile to the end of the road and back? Think we need to know a little more about an average day for you..

Have a look here (http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/) and work out your BRM and then from that follow the link to work out your calori needs and from there you can work out how many calories you need to lose weight. Alternatively you can just google "weight loss calories calculator" and find another one online.

It's really important to kick-start your metabolism chance, by eating breakfast. You need to get your body working properly. Do some searching for ways t0 kick-start your metabolism. Here's just one article-
"Breakfast is crucial to good health. It’s the first meal we eat after a night’s sleep, kick-starting the body back into action, or ‘breaking the fast’. The longer you go without food after waking up in the morning, the longer you are in the state of shutdown your body adopts during sleep.

“When people skip breakfast they are putting their body into a prolonged fasting state,” says accredited practising dietitian Lisa Renn.

“That is, they haven’t eaten anything since the previous night’s dinner and are asking their bodies to hold off without food for even longer. When this occurs regularly the body is forced to slow its metabolism down in order to conserve energy. The result is usually weight gain.”

The US National Weight Control Registry bears this out, showing th
at of those people who have lost more than 30 pounds (around 14 kilograms) and kept it off for more than a year, 90 percent reported eating breakfast most days of the week.

Breakfast is also the meal farthest away from our next sleep, which means the body has lots of time to digest and metabolise what we ate for breakfast throughout the day. So you can eat more and gain less.
It’s why it’s important to eat ‘the breakfast of a king, the lunch of a prince and the dinner of a pauper’. We don’t have time to metabolise a heavy, late dinner before we go to sleep at night. On the other hand, breakfast gives us all the energy we need to lead active lives during the day.

Breakfast improves alertness, concentration, mental performance and memory,” Renn says. “It can also help improve a person’s mood – that’s why people get tired and irritable when they miss breakfast.
“The optimum breakfast will come from a low GI, high fibre carbohydrate source that is low in saturated fat and sodium. Ideally, fruit or vegetables will form part of the mix, and it is a good idea to include a low-fat dairy or dairy equivalent product.”

Alright, I will start eating my breakfast starting tomorrow. Today I haven't eaten anything because I haven't been hungry. I did a lot of exercising (for me) today. My legs and arms hurt but I know that's normal so I am going to do as much exercising tomorrow. I am hoping to see atleast 5 pounds off by the end of the moth I think I would be happy with that for a start. I just really am not sure what exercises I should be doing to build my strength and help me lost weight as I am starting. I have a pull up bar but am ashamed to say I can't do even 1 pull-up anymore when I used to be able to do 15+ at a time.

@Trusylver i have a pull up bar only, i ran up and down my stairs, did crunches, jumping jacks, lunges.

Also. What I ate today was a ham sandwich and an apple at 8:00 EST

Hi Chance,

Welcome to the forum. I agree with all the above the posts.

With exercise I think it is important to like the exercise you are doing. If you don't like it chances are you probably won't stick with it. Cycling, running swimming, soccer, sports of any kind are all good. You don't need a lot of money with lots of sports to get started. The important thing is just to get moving, whatever it is. Body weight exercises like crunches, jumping jacks, lunges, planks are all good as well and don't cost anything.

Cate, Sunflower and Tru all know what they are talking about. Eating at least 3 meals a day is key to weight loss. It keeps your blood sugar constant and the cravings down.

You can do this! Educate yourself as to what works and what doesn't. There is no easy way to lose weight or we would all be 170 pounds and look like models if it was.

This forum is a great place. Use it for support and ask questions if you aren't sure about something.

great start chance, keep that good work coming. there's no easy fixes, just a journey you've got to go on. those 2 pounds are just your first steps on that journey :)
