I dont have time to waste, so.....

I dont have time to waste because I am 35 and a mother of 2 children and work full time. I want to commit to a consistent workout schedule and make sure I am doing what I need to be doing for my body type.

I am currently 5'6 157lbs. I used to weight lift consistently with my husband about 12 years ago and was in great shape, but still could not get below 135.

My question is....I understand consistency is the key, but at my age, how long until I should be seeing some major results?? My diet is not bad, probably too little calories, but I eat throughout the day and do not allow myself to get "starved".

I truly believe my problem is inactivity - and lack of consistency, it is very hard for me to stay interested in and faithful to my workouts since I have so much going on each day. I have very little "me" time, my kids are always around and interrupting my workouts which is extremely frustrating, but unavoidable right now due to their age (8 & 5).

When I do workout - which I have been trying to get at least 3 days a week in - I have been doing 30-40 on the treadmill and then weights on our "BodySolid" home gym (very nice BTW). I probably could pump up the intensity of my cardio, but I have a bad right knee and cannot jog on a regular basis. I have to let it rest for several days in between each workout where I would be jogging. How can I increase the intensity of my workout without being in pain the next day??? I tried increasing the incline up to about 7 or 8 and that seemed to help somewhat.

Please someone give me some advice - my goal is 140 by the end of May! Thanks! :p

for the knee pain, you should see a doctor - they'll probably recommend physical therapy and hopefully give you some exercise advice. when my kids where that age, i used to do aerobics (videos) or stationery bike at home. that's what worked for us. i'm 40 now, and my kids are 15 & 17 and everyone has learned to appreciate fitness!

Thanks for the advice Live...I did go to physical therapy about 3 years ago and it was fine up until about 4 months ago...I guess its time to go back or at least do the exercises I remember doing with them.

We have a mini gym in our house so having the equipment isnt the problem, just making sure I do the right thing in the small about of time that I have.

Thanks again!

Hello Judie.

Just a couple suggestions... You said you got a knee ache and that you're overweight. In that situation, running is almost the worst exercise you could do. It's extremely agressive for your articulations. In addition, you said you're eating probably under your requirements, so this is another factor that makes the aerobic not needed. I think the better for you is to train with wheights and if you want to do aerobics anyway, the eliptic is way better than the treadmill. If you could set aside 1 hour 3 times a week to go to a gym, it would allow to train being fully concentrad and without any distraction in order to do your best.

That's it, keep it up!
Regards.
