Hello everyone. I'm Reyna and I need some help. I am so close to my weight loss goal but yet I don't feel motivation anymore. I am going to an all new high school next year and just really want to come as a changed person. I mean, I refuse to become a sophmore still looking the way I do. I have come far though. I started last year (2008) at 295 pounds and I am now 222 (2009). I was like 216 a week ago but I went on a crazy binge. So now I am trying to just go down. That's my focus. But I need advice how to stay focused! And stay motivated. I want to lose this weight I swear I do but it's just so hard. My ultimate goal is to drop under 200 by the end of the year. I think I can do it but I'll admit it, I need support. I've been kind of doing this on my own but for a goal like this I just need your support. Can someone give me some motivational advice? Maybe even tell me your story. I know everyone on this board went through a lot of hard times to get where they are. But I envy all of you so much because you've done it and I'm still here! Please help me. Somebody. And I am truly sorry for the length of this post I just really had to get everything out. Thank you so much everyone.

Deep breath sweetie. One bad week does not mean the end of a diet. It is just something to go, "Well damn that was dumb, time to get back on track."

After having a time off or a gain just start back on you old routine trying to "punish" yourself for it will lead to more over eating more frustration more punishment until you give up and go back to where you were. I am not even stepping on the scale this week. I am sure I will flux 2-5lbs but I know by Christmas because I am still running and lifting I will be back at where I was or below. Remember it is the holiday season maintaining your wieghtloss this time of year is a major accomplishment with all the parties and pasteries and food related gatherings.

You can't get so keyed on a number on the scale that you let it ruin your life or your mood. Freaking out over a few pounds can lead to some unhealthy behavior. If you are female it can happen due to time of month or from eating salty food.

Remember why you wanted to loose the weight. What was your goal? Mine was to make sure my daughter was not teased for having a fat mom like I was. I got into shape before she started preschool and anytime I don't feel like running or being careful with calories I just remember how much it sucked getting teased and BAM not going to let my kid have to deal with something that is in my control.

You will get there. It is not about how fast you get there. Or how much you stumble on the way. It is what you learn about yourself, your triggers, and why you were the way you were before and making sure to not repeat those behaviors anymore.

I also recently updated about where I am not with photos if that helps go look. You can do it.

We all have our ups and downs. It's just life. I've been going to the gym 5 days a week, 1 hour a day weight lifting and riding my bicycle 6 miles a day there and back. Today on thanksgiving, for whatever reason I didn't feel like going. I only had 2 more days to complete the week. I already feel terrible about myself because I had some pie, ham, and rice crispy and the fact I didn't go to the gym! But I've lost 44 lbs so far (242 to 200.5) and something I've found, I went from a size 48 waist now down to a size 40, use what you have done as motivation to keep going! It's so nice to you have lost all the weight, keep it up! Think to yourself you went this far, keep on going! Above all don't give up! I believe in you! You can do it! Think you can succeed, and you will.

Hi Reyna. it's ok to feel discouraged when you break your weight loss program, it wouldn't be normal if you felt alright about it. The problem is if you stay feeling guilty and bad about yourself and don't start again with your program. Don't let that negative feeling be with you more than a few minutes if possible.

Just think that if you have done it right once then you can do it right again!!!

If you do your math you have lost 73 pounds!!! do you know how many people would kill to lose all that much weight?

And on top of that YOUR DOING IT ON YOUR OWN!!!!!! Do you know how many people have paid a lot of money for programs that have not given them the results they were looking for?

Come on!!! Take this like a break and that's it (just don't take those breaks too often, hehe)

Now, Focus on your real goal. Remember that your goal must make you feel a fire inside. if your goal doesn't make you feel that then you have to set a new goal.

Also remember that you need to KNOW what you are eating. That way you'll be concious of your food intake and when one you break your program you will know what to eat the following days in order to reverse what that break could have caused.

A good exercise program together with a good healthy eating program will get you right to your weight goal.

Keep it up and GOD bless you

How have you lost the weight so far? Were you just eating less, or started an exercise program?

Also, beating yourself up over a mistake will only make it worse. Just move on from it. In the long run its a small bump on the road. Sometimes it might even be necessary to keep you going. Whats important is that you don't let a bad week turn into a bad month because you are upset over the week. You need think in terms of today. What you did yesterday doesn't matter in terms of what you need to do today. If you eat a lot one day, the next day's goals don't change accordingly. Its not like you need to make up for the previous day, so you just move on.

You've already done an amazing job. Keep up the good work and know its not a quick process but you'll hit your goal in no time if you keep it up.

You've already proved you can do it.

First of all, I just wanted to thank everyone for their amazing answers. Some of them even made me tear up but you were all so right. Thanks so much! To answer your question Jeff, I have been using the Atkins Diet. It has worked well for me and has been a serious challenge. But these last couple of months I wouldn't exactly say that I'm on it but I still am working to a goal, so I am putting my own ideas into my weight loss. Yes, I have been exercising to make my weight loss more effective.

like it was said, dont beat yourself up over this! weight loss is a journey and its gonna have its bumps but as long as you try and stay positive and stay determined to get to your goal, you will make it.

This site is so much help for motivation. Whenever I feel too lazy to work out or like I want to eat food I shouldn't be eating just because I'm feeling sad or whatever...I just take alook at all the amazing transformations on this before and after thread. I see that there are people that have managed to lose more weight than I need to the plain and healthy way of diet and exercise and they look fabulous! I also see people that made it to their goal that have a similar goal to me and they look great too! It really helps to get to know some people and get to know their stories. Being able to relate to people and see where they were and where they are now is such a motivator.

Try looking at before and after pictures! I mean you have lost a ton of weight so far AND CONGRATS! I bet its totally noticable! Its hard to see a big difference when you see the changes day by day..but look at a picture from when you were near your highest weight and take a picture of yourself now. I bet you will see a big change!!

I did that and its keeping me motivated!!

I dont know if food is an issue for you, but I know it is for me and I just look at it this way: nothing tastes as good as looking healthy/skinny feels!! and when you think about binging on some fast food or some not so healthy treats just remind yourself that maybe that food will make you feel good for those few moments..but if you just stick to eating healthier and working out for a few months..you will be able to feel good 24/7!
