* I can't stay fat forever! *

My name is Jessica I will be 25 years old next month. Like most of you, I've struggled with my weight most of my life, I've never been "skinny" and frankly, I don't wan't to be. I just want to be healthy and like the way I look and not run at the first sight of a camera! I have a 20 month old son and I have very few pictures of him and I together because I am scared when he gets older he will look at the pics and think "man my mom was fat" Right now I am 5'1 and 224 Pounds, a month ago I was 232.

Before I got pregnant with my son I weighed around 180, I've always wanted to be around 150 but right now, I'd kill to be 180 again.

I've done many many diets in the past and they've all worked, very short term, as soon as I would end the diet I would gain the weight back almost immediatelly. About 3 and a half years ago I'm not sure how much I weight but I know I was over 200 pounds, I went to the doctor and got on Adipex, this was probably my 3rd time to be on them, I started going to the gym 5 days a week, ate alot of salads and baked chicken, I'm not sure what all I ate but oneday I noticed I was able to put on a cute pair of capris and a shirt that I had never been able to fit before, I had gotten down to about 175.

Then the pregnancy came! I ate like food was going out of style! I gained about 50 pounds while I was pregnant and I kept telling myself "it will just fall off once you've had the baby" but it didn't,.. I'm not eating anywhere near the amounts of food I was eating while I was pregnant but still havent lost any. My sister and I went on a diet last summer and got on Adipex, we were walking 3 miles a day, eating lean cuisines, salads, tuna,.. and I wasn't losing the amount that I wanted to lose,.. I've been on many diets where I would lose a pound a day! But I know now that that is not healthy and probably was mostly water weight, however I got so discouraged at 1 or 2 pound weight loss in a week that I thought "what's the point" I got down to 217 that summer and quit,.. a month ago I got an a scale and was 232, my heart sank into my chest.

Most people are not going to agree to the "diet" I am doing but, it seams to be working for me, I have lost 8 poounds in a month, I was shooting for 10 but I'll take 8 considering the "diet" I have made for myself.

I'm trying to have the 50 pounds off by Christmas.

I just got a job sitting for an elderly lady on the weekends, Fri-Sun. well I decided that Fri-Sun I was going to excersice my butt off since I don't have much else to do while I "sit" and I was going to eat very strictly on these 3 days, I eat 2 lean cuisines a day, and maybe a bag of baked chips. and on the weekdays I wasn't going to be as strict but I couldn't just go crazy like I use to either, in one month I have had 2 candy bars and no snacks other than a couple little bags of baked chips or rice cakes. I've always drank diet coke anyway so no change there, I do however drink a little more water now. During the weekdays if I want something like fast food or chineese, I will get it I just won't eat as much of it as I use to and I will try to keep it to a minimum. I know it sounds like a crazy plan but I figured I would try it out. so far the first 2 weeks I lost 6 pounds, and the last 2 weeks I've lost 2 pounds, which is ok because I haven't done too good last week.

I just thought I would share my story with everyone and maybe also see what everyone else is doing and how it is going for them.

Thanks for reading my story and for the input and advise you leave me.

Will be posting my progress.

Hi Jessica, and welcome. I think you'll find that keeping a diary here is really great motivation to help you with losing weight-- it has for me! It sounds like you've got a really good plan. I can only imagine how hard it is to deal with the pregnancy weight thing. I'm probably going to be getting pregnant within the next year or so, and I'm already researching about what I can do to manage it! Anyway, I just wanted to wish you the best of luck, and I'll be keeping tabs on how you're doing. :)

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I thought I might get some negativity for not being on a 7 day a week strict diet, but this is the only way I know that I can STICK to it! I really appreciate your post it made me feel so welcome!!!

The advice I can give you on pregnancy weight is just don't go OVERBOARD, I mean I went CRAZY everyone kept telling me "enjoy it while you can you can gain weight your pregnant" and I just went crazy with the food!! lol

Thanks again for the encouragement it meant alot to me!!

Hello Jessica, and welcome to the forum! Like mrsinez said, keeping a food diary is a really good plan...either do it here, or maybe on another program (I use myfitnesspal.com, and you're welcome to "friend" me...several of us here use that!) but no matter where you do it, do it...most of us hate to "fess up" to how much we eat or how many calories we've really consummed...but in order to lose it, I'm convinced I must know and measure it in order to consume as close as possible to the amout of calories I need to make my body function...but not a bunch more that will just go go fat!

The pounds came on and they can come off...calories in vs calories out. You might also consider listening to podcasts from fat2fitradio.com..they are 2 guys who give really good information on nutrition, exercise and wieghtloss..there are over 140 episodes...go back to the early days and you can track one of the guys going through weightloss as he follows his own advice...I found (and continue to find) it very inspiration, educational and especially motivational.

Congrautulations by the way, on losing the weight already! 8 pounds is great!!! the 50 pounds by Christmas goal may be a little too ambitious...the safe way to lose it is about 1% of your body weight per week...and as you already know, the 1st ones come off easier (not easy) than the last ones... I found for myself (and I've lost 90 lbs so far...another 40 to go!) that at first I lost between 7-10 pounds per month for the 1st 4 months, then it tapered off to 6-7, then down to 3-4, and now I'm lucky to get 1-2 pounds per month...but the most important thing is stay with it...no matter what, don't you quit, don't you quit, don't you quit!!

Hope this helps and looking forward to more updates from you!

Sarah

Hey! Well done on losing the 8lbs. I wouldn't worry aboutwhat other people think of your diet, if it works for you and as long as it isnt too crazy then you just gotta do what's good for you! Well done! Keep going coz you're doing really well :)

Thank you everyone for the encouragement! Sarah you're advice was very helpful and 90 pounds? way to go!! that's inspirationsal!!

Well I work from 5pm to 5am and last night at work I ate:

Lean cuisine 270 Calories

Baked cheestoes 120 Calories

when I got home this morning I ate

Salsbury steak 300 Calories

and some mashed potatoes,.. not sure about the calories on those

I'm a little bummed because I weighed again today and I'm still at 224 but like Sarah said the first pounds come off so much easier than the rest,.. I may have to start rethinking my diet and do much much better during the week as well lol.

I told myself I would only weigh once a month but everytime I look at the scale I am SO curious!

I am at work now and I only brought with me, a bag of baked chips and 2 lean cuisines so I know I will do good tonight!

Well it is 12am at work and I've been here since 5pm and I've got 5 hours to go. I haven't been able to do much excercise the past week because I have really bad asthma and I can't get my medicine untill next week and I tried doing Zumba Friday night and after 10 minutes I couldn't breathe and I was weezing and I thought I was going to die lol. so I'll pick up the exercise next week. That will help me out alot too.

I'm going to get some chicken breast and cook it at home and bring with me to work because baked chicken breast is sooo good for you when you're on a diet, and I found that tuna fish is too. I've been eating alot of tuna fish I put one boiled egg in it, some mustard, pickle relish and a little bit of light miracle wip and I eat it with fat free crackers, or sometimes just by its self. I'm not going to eat out any this week, for one I don't want or need to and for two,I'm going to be broke lol all my bills came at once!! and when I cook I always drain my hamburger meat (most people do anyway) but,.. now this may seam weird but my mom has always done it and so have I, I rinse the hamburger meat with hot water after I drain it, I feel like it takes alot of grease out of it, my fiance HATES when I do it, he doesnt even know I do it unless he sees me but he swears it taste different, but I know he can't tell because when he doesnt see me do it he thinks it taste good. and I like to use lean hamburger meat as well. and I've never been big on cheesse like alot of people are, so when I do make lasagnia and enchaladas this week I will be using little cheese.

So far all I have eaten today was:

Lasagnia Tv dinner: 270 Calories

Bag of baked sun chips: 140 Calories

I am going to eat my other tv dinner very shortly which will be another 270 Cal.

680 will be my calorie intake for today, that's kind of low I normally eat anywhere from 800-1200 usually more on the 1200 side lol.

I've drank 2 20oz bottles of water, I should drink more but that's an improvement for me, I usually NEVER drink water, always Diet Coke but I'm slowly upping my water intake.

I'm pretty excited to see how good I will do this comming week!! Like I said I usually eat fast food during the week just very few times and not much of it but this week I'm not going to at all and I hope the rewards show on the scale! :blush5: I'm so glad I am embarking on this journey and I am so glad I have all of you! Even the ones who don't post on mine, I real alot of ya'lls threads and diaries and it makes me feel so good that I am not alone, and seeing all of your weight loss stories and successes, makes me feel like "Ok I can do this, this isn't impossible, all these people have succeeded and I can too" So thank you all!

LETS KEEP UP OUR GOOD WORK!!

Well done on the good work chick! I used to work nights and it's very hard to sort out a proper eating pattern isn't it. I used to eat sooo much junk just to stay awake!! Well done and keep it up lady!

AGood job Jessica23 on the questions and decisions to stay away from the fast food! I found those questions to be very enlightening for me, and I think I'm going to update my answers again, thanks for the motivation and good reminder! Upping your water intake will really be good for you, but be careful not to eat too littler...under eating most always leads to overrating...so be sure to have some healthy snacks ( like fresh fruit) around if the cravings come!
Good choices to you!

Sarah

Great Job!

You have a great attitude. You should definitely do whatever works well for you.

What helps me is thinking about things as a lifestyle change, not a diet. I need to make sure that I can do the things I'm doing now for the rest of my life so I don't bounce back.

Best of luck and I look forward to hearing updates!

Thank you again everyone and I'm so proud of all of you for all the hard work you all have done and I love reading all of your posts! It helps me out alot! I love ya'll already, everyone here is so sweet to me and eachother!

Well I got home at around 5:30 am and went to sleep around 6:30 thinking I was off until next Friday but,.. wouldn't ya know I got woke up at 11 to hear that I had to come back in tonight, which is ok because I stick to my diet SO much better at work and my check will be better next week lol.

The overeating thing when eating too little is right! I didn't do too bad when I got home this morning but I could tell I was still starving because I had been hungry all night, when I got home I had a lean cuisine pizza 270 cal, a bag of baked sun chips 140 cal, and I was STILL hungry so I ate a little bit of this Turkey dressing my fiance had, it said one serving was 240 so it wasn't just outrageously bad but

it did take a little while for me to not be hungry again.

Today before work we went to this mexican place and ate and I'm not going to feel guilty about it because I only ate half of what I would normally eat and I was full, and usually I would just keep eating anyway because it's so good but as soon as I got full I stopped and I was very proud of that. I was going to go to Subway and get a sandwich to bring to work with me for later on tonight to eat or early in the morning but I was so full from the mexican I didn't feel like it so, I didn't bring anything with me to eat tonight, we will see how that goes.

I'm going to go to my mom's and weigh probably tomorrow or Tuesday, I'm really nervous. I would like to see 222 on the scale this week but I'm not sure how that is going to work out for me with the lack of excercise. I'm probably going to get in about 30 mins of walking in tonight, it's not much but it's something.

Keep it up everyone WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!!............... AND WE WILL!!

Ok my weight loss family! I'm getting off of work soon! Thank the Lord!

I've done really good this weekend, wish my luck this week I'll be weighing Wednesday Let's hope I see 222! I've been a little discouraged tonight :( just thinking that I'm actually happy to see 222 is sad, but I did this to myself and now I've got to pay the price and work hard to banish those numbers forever. I said to myself I was aiming for 2 or 3 pounds a week and I was NEVER going to think about the total amount I need to lose because that's where I always mess up in the past I keep thinking "I've got 50 pounds to lose, that's so much I'll never make it" instead I'm trying not to think about that and just think about 2 or 3 pounds every week and then oneday I will wake up and realise, wow I've lost alot of weight.

I've just had a depressing night thinking about it and I KNOW I need to do way better during the week and I need to excersize WAY more! And I'm going to do those things because my original "plan" of just weekend dieting and doing "okay" during the week, is not going to give me the results I am looking for. I thought about postiing pictures tonight of what I look like now and what I looked like at 180 but I'm too ashamed right now,.. maybe when I lose some more weight I will because I enjoy all of your pictures, and seeing the changes in you all.

I will check back with all of you in a couple of day, keep it up guys we've got the right idea, we just have to stick to it!

DON'T GIVE UP!, Let's think about the rewards we have ahead of us!!

p.s I'm trying to refrain from saying ya'll so much because I can imagine it would be annoying for some of you lol

Hey Jessica23,

Don't get too depressed about the weight today...you're on a journey and the faster you "own" and accept who you are today, the more you can accept your journey to get there and keep it off once you do...and not be totally bummed out if you don't make it in hyper speed...it took years to go on and contrary to popular belief, it might actually come off faster than it went on!

Easy does it Jessica and accept your beautiful self today!! I have a "goal picture" on my computer of when I was somewhere around my goal weight (and 30 years younger!)...so I get wanting to look that way now...just don't obsess over it and beat yourself up for who you are today...nothing to be ashamed of!!

Sarah

Thank you Sarah! I've just got to stop thinkin abou it an I"ve got to keep going eventough I see no results becase that's where I've messed up in the past I would always give up and quit.

Well I just weighed and I'm till at 224, pretty upsetting but I'm stepping up on the diet and weight loss, for the rest of this week I will be eating tuna and baked chicken brest. I'm about to go walking when it gets a littl cooler outside probably in a couple of hours. I'm shooting for 30 mins

I'm the only one to blame for my weigh gain and for not losing this week. But for now on I'm going to do much better!

I'm not going to weigh again until Moday and hopefully I will have 3 pounds off by then

Wish my luck and strength

Good work everyone keep it up!! We will thank ourselves for it when it's over!

Sounds like you are doing good Keep it up! And Keep your head up
smile.gif

Thank you Rainyforest!!

Well I weighed today and I was 223, so I've lost 1 pound, I said I wasn't going to weigh until Monday but I was at my mom's and the scale kept calling my name!!! that's why I can't keep one at my house, I will weigh multiple times a day! I haven't done bad this week at all, I did eat some candy bars Tuesday night but I'm not going to sweat it. I told myself in the beginning that it would never work if I NEVER gave into my gravings, that's the one thing I promised myself is that I would not deprive myself of my favorite things every single day.

Today before work I ate some multigrain cheerios with milk, 250 Cals

and for later tonight at work I made some tuna with a boiled egg, a little bit of miracle wip, mustard and relish, with 6 crackers, 350

so that's about 600 calories today that's way too low so when I get home in the morning I will probably eat a lean cuisine or something bringing my total to around 900 to 1,000 cals

My little nephew is having a birthday party tomorrow at Noon so that means I wont be getting much sleep at all, I wont get home until 5:30 in the morning, I might get around 5 hours, but the thing with birthday parties is CAKE!!!! I plan to not eat ANY cake and I am really going to try not to! My mom and sister are making hot dogs and cheese dip for the party so I plan on eating a hot dog I'm not sure how many calories are in a hot dog? lol but, I'm going to really try to kick butt on my diet this weekend! and do FANTASTIC!!

I'm going shopping with my mom and sister Tuesday, we live about 2 hours from any mall so going to the mall is always pretty exciting for us. I didn't want to do any clothes shopping until I lost my weight becaue I don't want to buy something and then not be able to wear it in a few months from now because it will be too big, so I'm not getting very much at all, mainly things for my son.

I'm so excited I've lost 9 pounds and it's been about 5 or 6 weeks, I'm not sure how long, I wish it was more than 9 pounds in that amount of time but that is my own fault, the first few weeks I wasn't doing very good at all but I've decided I need to do much better. I'm hoping to be 220 by Monday, we will see...

I'm so pround of everyone and myself let's keep going!!

No wishing it to be more or faster.... just be happy you keep the scale moving in the right direction. Sure its no fun for it to take long to lose but as long as you just keep the progressing you will get there!

I got to work at 5pm today and all I ate all day before work was a small bowl of cereal and I brought my tuna with me, by 9 o'clock I was starving! and I knew if I ate my tuna that early I would be hungry again before I went home at 5am so I went to subway and got a sandwich, so that brings my calories up some,600 was too low for the day anyway and I just got done with my tuna, so I did AMAZING! today as far as food goes!

My mind is in good shape as well, I'm so excited to see the progress I will make from here on out!

I know Tuesday when I go shopping I will probably have a few depressing thoughts, seeing the clothes I want to wear and can't fit in yet, but it will give me something else to help motivate me! I'll also get A LOT of walking in that day too lol.

As long as I keep my mind straight and focused, I wont eat anything when I go home in the morning and I've got to be super strong at the birthday party tomorrow when the cake comes around!!!
