I can do this, for him.

I am a single mother of a 3.5 year old beautiful boy and I have come to the conclusion that if I'm not willing enough to lose the weight for me then I know that I can do this for the one thing that keeps me going, my son.
Without him there is no me, he defines me, before him there was no life for me, my life began when he was born. I want to see him get married, have kids, I want him to be confident, happy and wise and I don't think he will become all of those things if I'm not. I am not a good example for my child. The way I'm going, I won't life long enough to see my baby grow up to be a beautiful and handsome smart man. I need to set my priorities straight and ask myself, is my own food and lazy comfort more important than my own son? and to be a little selfish is it more important than my own happiness? Because what parent can be happy when they know that they are teaching their children self-distruction. So this is it....I can do this for him.

I am currently around the 275ish lb mark and I want to set out smaller goals for myself so that the road doesn't seem so endless. I want to come down to the 250lb mark, so about 25lbs and I want to have this goal achieved by new years so I think that is a reasonable little goal.

The only activity I have now is dance practice, once a week for 2 hours and it's very intense, a lot of cardio, we all are covered in sweat afterwards. It's a old traditional european folklor dance and so we practice for upcoming shows.

My eating habits are gross. Lots of fast food, lots of bread, pasta, basically I love carbs, but I dont love them more than my son. My main problem is late night binge eating. I eat almost a full size dinner meal every night and it comforts me, I get no hunger pains when im nice and full, well probably stuffed and my body has learned that its happy when its so stuffed and it's so sad. I want it to stop, this addiction, I'm only 22 and Im heading down a bad bad road so early in life.

Today is the day. I'm so done.
Tomorrow morning I have a dr appointment, im getting my sugar checked and some blood taken, I take vit D pills everday because my Dr told me I was very low on it, so one step at a time in the right direction :)

Good work making the first step! I know you can do it and can't wait to follow you on this journey.
I'm also losing weight to some day have children and set a good example for them. My motivation is the wedding right now and it seems to be doing the trick.
Good luck to you! You have one lucky son!

Sept 24th

I had a big shocker this morning.
Weighed myself and it turns out I weight 288lbs.
O.M.G that's a whole 13 freaking pounds more than I thought.
I cannot believe this, well I guess I shouldnt be shocked but I am :O

Does weigheing yourself right when you wake up have any affect on the number on your scale? Maybe the loosened muscles relaxed during sleep cause it??? lol Im just really really pissed off.

Welcome formyson,

Congrats on taking the first step.

I have found that weighing when I first get us is when I weigh the least so I weigh every Monday as soon as I get up.

I have found that if I keep track of my food intake it reall helps so I will pass this along to you I use I use the free part.

Good luck with your quest.
Tony

THank you Tony, so weighing myself in the am is what I will do then :)

Okey so it's been a day or two since my last post, I've been a lot more concieous of what I'm eating, always tripple thinking about if I should eat this or that. Im a full time college student as well, so I dont get to eat much because my classes can run from about 3 hours each, sometime more than 2 in a day and I only have a decent break tuesdays the other days is get a coffee and start walking to next class but I guess bringing a sandwich to class wouldnt kill me.

I want to write down what I ate today (may not be all good choices)

morning (Nothing - had to make class at 9am it ran until 11 and then from 11-12 I had another class right after no break at all)
12-1 Had one hour break (nothing to eat still because I had to finish a paper on that one hour break :(
1-2 Had a computer lab then 2-3 another class
3 I went to the caff and finally got 2 slices of pizza (average size, not those huge slices) and I got a small chocolate bar and I drank two bottles of water during school than one more during the car ride home and I ate he pizza while I was walking to my car which I parked a good block away.
Then I came home, Had a sandwich (white bread) with turkey and some cream cheese. I went to the store then I came home to some delicious rice (white rice) with veggies and chicken, so that was my dinner.

So as you see not much food intake due to he constant classes...but I think im ok with that. No excercise yet..i dont know what im waiting for. I do have a treadmill in the basement.

I don't know if you're looking for advice or suggestions .. .but if you are, I would suggest that you make time for breakfast. There are plenty of things that you can eat on the run if you really don't want to get up 15 mins earlier.

And I would pay close attention to the number of carbs - especially simple carbs - you're eating. Also think about packing some healthy snacks to take to class with you so that you won't be tempted by junk food. An apple, some almonds, a piece of whole grain bread folder over a serving of peanut butter, some baby carrots in a bag, a couple of boiled eggs ... none of these things need to be refrigerated, can be stashed in your backpack, and are infinitely healthier than pizza.

Also, at your weight you need to eat MUCH more food than you're eating. If you eat too little, you can cause your metabolism to drop too fast and then you'll stall out your weight loss.

Ideally at your weight, you should be getting around 2800 calories a day in order to lose weight at a healthy rate - and you need to make sure that's balanced between complex carbs (i.e. not pizza and white rice), lean meats, and healthy fats.

Nutrition and food are probably 80% or more of losing weight - and of doing it healthily. If you starve yourself, either by eating too few calories or by not getting enough nutrition, you'll set yourself up for failure .. and that's not the way to go! :)

I def agree that pizza and white rice, and the other carbs out there are not the better way to go, but I'm learning slowly and im trying hard to stay away from them, I do love carbs so im working at it. But yes, your advice is very smart and it will help me a great deal as I keep working on myself :) So thank you for that. I do know that at my weight I do need to eat more but there is this fear in me, sometimes when I feel like if I go near food that I will go crazy and eat it all, it's a habit, so I just stay away completely which is a stupid thing to do.

30 Sep

I weighed myself this morning and I lost 4 pounds :) I was very happy.
Not excercising jus watching my food and its probably mostly water weight but hey as long as the number is going down and not up, im happy.

And confession#1
I had no breakfast again :S dumb me
and when I arrived home after school I was very hungry so i ate 4 cookies :S
and then about 20min later I got (says it shamefully) mcdonalds and I got it all while knowing it's so wrong. So what I decided to do tonight is go for a jog on my treadmill.

Some more facts about me:

5'8 tall
I did get myself checked out and I carry out of the 284 I weigh now 150lb of muscles, my muscles were measured so I think thats awesome news...my ideal weight is between 170-175 because my body frame is large.
