I am in need of dire help.

Hey everybody. I am a 17 (18 and the end of the month, graduating as well) high school student that is majorly overweight. Being overweight is something I have always just kind of... "dealt" with. I no longer want to have to put up with it and want to rid myself of it. The problem comes in once I start to do something about it. I am 5'11" and 330lbs or so. I always do good for a day or two, then it goes right back to eating terribly. I don't drink soda, never have, I drink a lot of tea, and I used to never drink water, which has shifted lately, I've been trying to drink a lot more water, which doesn't always pan out great, I don't always drink as much as I should. At this point, I can use all the motivation and support I can get. Being 17, I can't really buy all my own meals, which would help out tremendously if I could. The motivation, I know needs to start with me. The motivation is there, the willpower to keep the good efforts going and stay on track isn't. Can anybody please offer any advice to me?

Oh wow, sorry that I didn't see your post until now!

I would suggest to try only making small changes each week. Write down a list of goals or "healthy habits" that you want to adopt over the long term, then tackle them one at a time. Only move on to the next one if you've got the one you're currently working on under control. Give yourself at least one or two weeks to work on each new habit.

Often, trying to make too many changes all at once can be frustrating and difficult. People get discouraged quickly if they can't manage all of their desired changes all at once, because they feel like they're failing.

For example, to start off, you could work on getting in 15 minutes of walking per day. Work on that until you feel like you've incorporated it into your routine without too much hassle. Maybe next, you'd want to try to drink more water. Make it a goal to drink one or two more glasses of water more per day than you are already drinking. Keep doing that until you don't have to think about it too much. Then start working on the next habit.... and so on.

Hope that helps!

How have things been going so far?

Havn't been on here in a long time but want to start hanging out again.

Tea is good but you need more water than tea. My doctor once told me even plain tea all the time isn't good as it doesn't give your kidneys a break like water does.
I just keep a huge mug of water handy in the kitchen and anytime I walk past it I chug some down and refill it. You get alot more down that way each day. After a while it just turns into a habit.

As for eating.....don't try and make a radical change. Just try to cut back on serving sizes by 10--15% at first. You'll see you'll drop some weight very fast and get more motivated.
Then try and eat a little healthier little by little....more fruits and veggies for example.

Then start learning to cook healthy!
It takes time to learn, but proper cooking is really important!
If you don't like cooking or don't know how....then at least try doing some salads.........just be careful about the dressing you use and how much.

A few other simple tips......use smaller dishes, spoons and forks. I told my mother this trick and she was amazed how much it helps cut down on serving sizes, how fast/much you eat, getting seconds etc.....

Exercise of course is important as already mentioned to you. You don't need to join a gym or anything but even walking is really good for you.

Keep tupperware containers in the fridge with fruit already chopped up and ready for a snack.

Raw almonds, walnuts, with raisins/craisins are another good snack to have on hand if you have the munchies. Plus you can carry them out easily.

Just keep picking away! It took time to put on..it'll take time to get it off!
