Well....we got back from a family vacation a few weeks ago and got to see our pictures....UGHH.

I have been overweight and out of shape for 20 odd years. The last ten were my worst since I quit smoking. My highest was 235....and I am glad I dont have pics of that! lol.

Around January, I was 225, and booked the first family vacation. I tried low-carbs knowing the beach was going to be our hilite.....well....the pic doesn't lie. I have a way to go.

I am ready for a change. 46 years old in a month or so. 6'2" and 217 right now. I am hoping to get to 180ish someday. Doesn't matter when...but I want it to be permanent. No lo carbs...no magic....I need to change my way of life realistically.

So far, I am conscious of what I am eating, and I started going to the gym.
I am using fitday, and I am making healthier choices.

I hope to make some friends here and lean on some for advice and support.

Hopefully this is where I start to change.

Hey :D
Just wanted to wish you all the best on your weightloss journey, and no need for the ughh about your pic i honestly dont think you look bad. If you lost a bit on your belly and built up some muscle then I reckon you would look great :D

Thanks Janey. Thats what I need alright. Been wearing sweatshirts and baggy clothes most my life. And Hope to see some change by the end of summer.
See if I am worthy of a before and after shot by then! :)

Take care

This is completely do-able. I am very excited about seeing you make this happen. Just so you know, I have been in nearly your exact situation. Nearly same weight and same goal

There is no magic here or anywhere to losing weight.

Let me ask you a question. What do you think the answer to losing weight is? Exericse or dieting or something else?

Damn....quiz time already! lol Remember I am new to this so take it easy on me....

My answer is something else. And that something else I think is "Attitude". I had to change my attitude about eating the right things vs eating what was convenient or bad. I had to change my attitude about being self conscious...so that I could walk into a gym and not care what people thought. I had to change my attitude that tomorrow is when I will start.
Maybe I am wrong....but I know i had to change my attitude to get this far....even if this is new to me. So far, I have been going to the gym and actually feeling good about myself while there. I have been eating bettter foods and enjoying them. And I now have a positive attitude towards life...my life.

How's that? lol

Am I close??

Thanks for the reply btw. Nice to talk about this.

It really wasn't a quiz, but I am glad that you had a good time with that question. I really appreciate the answer. I see what you mean about attitude. It isn't only the food or exercise it is a change of beliefs also.

If you cannot see how eating a cup of yogurt for lunch might be enjoyable rather than a hamburger and fries, you don't leave an opening for their to be some other type of enjoyment.

Life is supposed to be enjoyed. Losing weight is not inconsistent. I think that is another belief that everybody needs to come to change.

Thanks for your response.

Things I tried that I wouldn't have if I never changed my attitude...

natural yogurt....and I hate it lol. at least plain anyways. Need to find a use for it before it goes bad. (you cant like everything lol)

avocados....other than with guacomole and tortillas, (and a half dozen beer) avocados were gross. Well, I like em in salad alot. go figure.

Oatmeal. Otherwise known as porridge. I actually feel better knowing its good for me. And a few raisins and a dash of brown sugar and its delicious!
Who would have thunk it!

walking...i hated walking anywhere.....now I use it to clear my head....mental relaxation. I actually look forward to it.

Water....I hated drinking water. Still do. But thinking that kidneys need a flushing after 46 yrs of working (sometimes overtime) makes it more enjoyable.

Best one is coming here....reading, lurking, learning....never would have happened if I didnt change my attitude. And it feels good knowing I'm not alone....that theres information available, theres motivation that helps, and mistakes to be learned by. Its all good.
