Hi everyone this is my first post here, but not my first visit. I stumbled in here about 2 weeks ago or so looking for some ideas on good nutritional food to eat. So I figured I would make a post and tell ya a little about me.
I am 51 y/o guy, who was very active in sports and such throught high school. I weighed 210 the year I graduated. Into my 20's I went to 220's and my 30's I went into the 230's and so on and on..get the picture? Yup that is right I just never really let it bother me till last year when I got up to 260...so I went on something easy..a low carbohydrate diet..worked great in 3 months I was down to 225..and was lighter but I felt like crap!!!! Tired..no energy and all. But at least I had the weight off...well I went back to my same old ways of eating and it didn't take long till I was back up there. And still felt awful. Always tired and out of energy.
Sometime in November I was looking thru utube and came across some old clips from Jack Lalanne and just watched a few and he was talking about people being tired, and out of shape and stuff and started talking about proper nutrition and balanced diets. I found a clip of him describing a balanced days menu...so I figured what the heck I will try it for a week. I went to the store and picked up the things I needed as naturally they sure weren't in my firdge LOL
So the first week in December I tried it. First thing I noticed after 3 days that is was easier to get up for work in the morning. By the end of the week on Friday I actually felt like doing something instead of going home and watching tv. The following Monday I got on the scales and found them 4 lbs lighter!!
It has now been almost 2 months and I weight 238 (down from 264) I feel better than I have since I was a kid! Also the first of the year I started a short exercise program. I have not eaten at a fast food place at all!!!! I take all my food to work with me. And above all I cut out almost all the diet soda I was drinking...which was about 6 cans a day. I now drink a cup of coffee in the morning and water the rest of the day. I think I have had about 4 cans of diet soda in the last 2 months.
I am not so amazed at how good I feel but, looking back at how bad I felt!!! I guess I forgot what it was like to have energy in the morning, or to come home from work and feel like doing something. I truthfully believe it all came from the way I am now eating
So what I would like to share is. I tried the so called fad diet and I lost weight but I felt awful. Not to mention I gained the weight right back. I am going the nutritional way now and I feel fantastic! I still miss my diet soda. And I still have a problem with a after dinner snack. But f I do have one it is something healthy. Not Oreos and Milk!!
This seems like the right path if you want to lose weight and feel better. I want to weigh what I did in high school which was 210 and I want to be able to hold that weight. I think this is the way for me. And I don't care if it takes me another 6 months to get there just because of the way I feel now.
My food has changed as I learned more about what to eat and what not, but that first week here is what I ate.
Breakfast
2 hardboiled eggs
1 Orange
1 Apple
1 piece of whole grain toast w/honey
cup of black coffee
Lunch
Can of Tuna/or baked chicken breast/or dish of fat free cottage cheese
HUGE salad w/lite salad dressing
Dinner
Fish or Chicken
2 different steamed vegtables usually broccoli & cauliflower
Small Salad
fruit or fat free yogurt
For snack I ate celery sticks with fat free cream cheese or fruit. Usually a banana.
I drank lots of water and some tea sweetend with honey.
It really worked for me and really gave me some pep! And I didn't really go to bed hungry. I felt pretty full at night. After really checking into things I am now a firm believer that you are what you eat LOL After reading and watching more of Jack LaLanne the old guy was way ahead of his time. I know I appreciate him alot more now for getting me on the right path. And after looking through this forum I found so much valuable information that is really going to help me get back to just being me the way I was!
