i am 14 and need to lose weight in like a week

this site has been helpful a little but i will try asking one more time i am 14 and i want to lose some pounds
1 i have a membership to the gym i go every day and run the tredmill
2 i am trying to eat below 1200 carolies
3 and i play like 3 hours of other sports for fun
what should i do

Hah, you have to be realistic. First off, your title says you want to lose weight in a week. Forget it.

Second, you go to the gym everyday and run the treadmill. Well, here...stop!!! You are being completely inefficient. Start doing some weight training. Mix in cardio as you need it, but it should not be your foundation.

Third, you are trying to eat under 1200 calories. I realize you are 14 years old, but do you weigh 90 pounds? Unless you do, you are undereating. You need to give you body fuel in order for it to comfortable drop fat.

Finally, you play hours of other sports. That, I won't even touch, it's great, so keep it up, and enjoy it.

So, exactly how much weight do you think you are going to lose in "like" 1 week?

I understand you are only 14, but you must show a bit more maturity than that before you screw yourself up big. Running everyday and starving yourself is not going to get you where you want to be (unless hospitalized for an eating disorder is your long term goal).

I don't mean to be harsh, really I don't. Read around, educate yourself, and make a reasonable and educated decision about your life and what you want.

Forget losing weight in a week. But start right now and focus on a better lifestyle for yourself from this point forth. This will ultimately lead to the body you want. Your results will depend on how much effort you put in.

I wish I had taken an interest when I was 14 rather than waiting until I was older, so you have a good headstart over those who do not start to make the effort until they are older. Take it easy with the weights at your age, but do not use cardio as the foundation as stated earlier.

I would probably sugest you start with bodyweight exercises at your age, but there could be people who disagree. Look at the advice people give you and then look into it further on the internet before implementing it.

Goodluck!

Your still growing dude. It still have a lot of growing to do. You really shouldn't worry about losing weight yet. If you are still concerned then listen to these good people.

Unless you are clinically obese. I am not saying I think you are or anything though...

Yeah, ease off on so much cardio and do some weightlifting. You don't want to worry so much about weight at that age (unless your obese) or serious under eating problems can happen in the future.

Your're working too hard dude!

My opinion? Do 3 sets of pushups, squats and pull-ups/chin-ups 3 x per week, play your sports and spend the rest of the time hanging out with your mates rather than doing excessive cardio.....

Can you give us more information on yourself? Weight? Height? Anything? What are you eating and when?

My personal opinion as of now would be to just start switching your lifestyle to a healthy one. Do it slowly, take your time. Eat healthy food, have fun, lift weights, and play sports. Set yourself up for success for the rest of your life.

Uh, what's up with all the people bashing cardio? I mean, if you want to lose FAT, cardio is the best way to go! Running is shown to be one of the best cardio workouts you can do. I'm 6'0, 22, and weighed 206 pounds before I started my routine. I started eating 4-6 meals a day, keeping it under 1600 calories. Lean, protein-filled meals (tuna, chicken breast, V8 juice, etc.). I started running 3x a week along with working out 3x a week in addition to my physical labor job, and I lost 9 pounds in one week. Weighed myself empty/dry/nude. The following Monday I was down to 197. That's in addition to whatever muscle I had gained from working out.

Don't sell yourself short but also don't push yourself too hard. At age 14 you're going to have a hard time building any serious muscle because you've just barely hit puberty. I don't know why or how much weight you're expecting to lose...but I think running a few times a week for 30 mins at a time is a good start. Look up Couch 2 5K. That's an excellent program and it worked for me. It will be good for you too if you've never run before.

Just be sure to drink PLENTY of water and make sure you stretch for about 10 minutes before you run or else you'll be very miserable during your run.

^ Strong bump, dude (everyone seemed to be saying "dude" in this thread 84 years ago, thought I'd join in while it's still hip and cool).

Anyway, here's why strength training trumps cardio for FAT loss (not necessarily weight loss).

- Back when this thread was alive, everyone KNEW that every time you touch a barbell your metabolism shoots up by about 1,000,000kcal/day. In more recent times, the enhanced metabolism claims have been backed off and calmed down to more realistic claims, but the science still stands (last I checked) on the basic principle that muscle mass fuels metabolism and recovery from strength training is metabolically demanding, so at the very least doing stuff to actively build (or at least preserve) muscle mass should minimise any decreases in metabolic rate due to weight loss.

- More importantly, and much more directly significant, once you've made your calorie deficit, it's been made. You WILL lose weight. Your body may adjust later on by reducing your metabolic rate, but so long as there is a calorie deficit, weight loss MUST occur. So, what becomes significant thereafter in the numbers is where the weight's coming from. Strength training preserves lean body mass. Calorie-dense body mass is either lean or fat in nature, so if you lose weight and it ISN'T lean body mass, where's it gonna come from? Conversely, cardio does very little to preserve lean body mass, so the weight loss might be 50/50 fat and muscle, vs 95/5 fat and muscle with strength training.

In any case, I don't get the impression that the people who did reply to this thread back in Nam were posting anti-cardio, per se. They were, however, posting against having cardio as the number 1 form of exercise that everything hinges on. If you had to choose between strength training and cardio, assuming that you're an able-bodied person who can do both properly, you'd logically want to choose strength training, even for fat loss. Cardio works well in supplementing strength training, and has some obvious health benefits, so ideally everyone should do both, but strength training is more important.

Hi there,

I do not believe that there is anything out there that can help you in losing a lot of weight in a single week. Losing weight is a long term process and if you try to speeden things up you are only going to do more harm to yourself.

So hear me out and do not try to go in for something that promises that it can help you lose considerable amount of weight in a week.
