Hurt Muscles

Hello,

As I've previously posted, I do an hour of TaeBo 6 days a week. For the past couple weeks, I've been getting what feels like pulled muscles. It started in my chest. I don't think it was my heart. It felt like a chest muscle was hurting. That would only happen during the fast paced punching parts of the DVD. That stopped when I eased off the intensity of my punching. Now, it feels like I've pulled a muscle in the middle of my back (right where a bra strap would sit). That seems to have happened during the exact same fast paced punching I was doing before. I do all the warmup stretches that are on the DVD. I just don't know how to keep from hurting myself while working out. I can't afford to join a gym. I can't afford to hire a personal trainer.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

Thanks.

stretches arnt good enough, warm up your upper body by doing star jumps, circles with your arms etc.

Usually when someone begins an eccentric work out theres associated muscle pain after. But each time you redo the exercise it will progressivly ease, even if you work out harder than the previous bout.

How about...go a little slower?

If you haven't gotten the technique down yet to be able to go fast without injuring yourself, why not try and focus on getting it right at a lower intensity and slowly increasing your pace/speed?

Also, I am not familiar with the DVD stretching, but you want to stetch when you are already warm. Not as a warm-up. So you might not be properly warmed up when you start.

I would just ditch the taebo all together

What would you suggest I do? I don't have any equipment aside from a few weights (low weight).

Thanks to the others for the replies as well. I have slowed my punching down a bit. I thought I had the form right. I try my best to do exactly as the others are doing. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that my body just isn't used to working out. I've never really worked out before October. My mom says my body is using muscles that it never had to use as much before. I don't really have what I'd call "sore muscles". The muscle in my back is pulled. I can tell when I turn, sneeze, or cough. It's more of a sharp pain instead of a slow, steady pain...if that makes sense.

Oh, and Sig...I DID slow it down. After the chest issue, I slowed the intensity during that particular exercise for the next few times I did the workout. Then today, I pulled a muscle in my back. I was still going at it a little slower and trying to watch myself as to not hurt my chest muscles. I am a beginner at fitness and know very little about it. However, I do possess a bit of common sense.

I'm going to take a few days off and try again when it heals.
