How to stop getting frustrated by not-immediate results?

I don't know if anyone else has this same problem as me, but I find myself always being irrationally surprised and frustrated when I don't see weight loss results very, very right away.

Like, if I've been sticking to a weightloss plan for a few days, a week, I'll wake up in the morning feeling great and fully expecting to be thin. And of course I'm not, because weightloss doesn't and shouldn't happen that fast, I know, but it still tends to get me down and sometimes lead to eating too much that day because "I just can't get any results!!" or some such. I'm pretty sure it comes from back in a day when I was already thin, and if I had a bad couple days and was feeling "fat" all I'd have to do was eat healthily a day or two, feel better, and then check in the mirror and see I was thin again, except I already was thin and didn't have any weight to lose except bloating, lol. But I feel like I'm still expecting that to happen now!

Any suggestions what to do to combat that idea? I don't weigh myself, and so tracking progress by just how my body actually changes seems even slower. So far all I can think of is just try not to thinking about it, not do like mirror checking for changes except infrequently. But any other ideas you guys have?

ATry to remember what you felt like before you started losing weight, and than look at what you have accomplished so far. This should be good motivation to keep going.

For me, it always helps to write down my goals in some form of a plan. It is easy to make a rationally achievable plan, where you map out what your weight will be within one month, two months, six months, etc, taking into account a weight loss you consider achievable, for example one pound per week.

Then whenever you feel demotivated because you aren't losing weight fast enough, just look at the plan, and you will probably realise that you are still on track!

However, the downside of this approach is what happens when you aren't on track any more... I guess that could be even more demotivating! :)

what i do - because i need to see / feel results - is take a spreadsheet (google docs / excel / open office) and list my weight and make a graph so that i actually see my progress... when you see a line that is going in the downward direction its a nice help...

i also keep track of what i eat and what kind of exercise i do...

I try to only weigh myself once a week and in the morning, then write the results down. I bought a scale that allows me to see every ounce lost, this has really helped me. I know its cliche but remember that it takes time to put weight on...AND take it off.

Why don't you weigh yourself. I find having an objective way of measuring my weight gain or loss helps. Other than that, i just do what i think is right and expect the results will follow. I don't get very impatient. Maybe you just need to change your mindset. I am sure its not hard to do if you want to.
