How to REALLY make your abs look awesome

I have seen several different people ask what they can do to lose weight in the mid area. Doing sit ups alone does nothing. You will never be able to see your abs if you body fat % is to high. Wight trainers will tell you to do resistance training...thats so they can make money. If you want to lose weight either eat less or work out more dont do both. I suggest eating a lot of good foods. A LOT apples oranges toast eggs every fruit and grain you can think of. But make sure you stay away from sugar. Its in protien bars its in fruit shakes its in juice. Its in everything that tastes good and bad. So instead of giving up everything thats good to eat just focus on working out. Eat in moderation dont give up eating ice cream just limit how much you eat or do something to get your mind off of eating. People dont eat to stay alive these days, they eat comfort food. When your bored do something get into something so you dont think about eating. Forget about all those silly formulas and equations. EVERYONE is different garanteed. I used to weight 225 and im a 21 male. I am 5'11 but all i did was start eating more and working out more. Here is the only equation you will need. Work out more=eat more. On days i dont work out i eat less beacuse im not going to use much energy. But on days i work out i eat like a horse. And now i weight 165 lbs. Its all in your mind trust me. You dont need to monitor your callories or any of the sillyness. Eat healthy and eat a lot of it. Please, think about it...You work out more and eat less...no, good luck doing that the rest of your life. Dont work out in the gym work out in kitchen by making healthy choices. My favorite thing to do at the gym is this. Get onto a tredmill and walk for 5 minutes or more dont go less. Then increase your speed little by little tell your going the speed you want. Stay at that speed for as long as you can. Dont run as fast as you can beacuse you will get tierd to fast and you wont burn as much fat as you would if you go slower and longer. Once you need to stop just turn down the speed so your walking again. Walk for about 5 minutes or however long you need to rest. Then bump up your speed little by little again. Rince and repeat. When your done go do sit up. Do different kinds there are many sites on the web that shows you how to do different sit ups. Do full on sit ups and do crunches. Do atleast 100 try to do 500 or work up to the # you want. When your doing sit ups think about your abs and try not to use your hands or back foucs on useing your ab muscles so every sit up counts. Of course we are all different and some of you may dissagree but this really did help me to lose weight. Oh and by the way if your serious about losing weight plan on doing cardio everyday for atleat 40 minutes. If you have to work up to it than do what you need to do. Walk for 40 minutes. Run for 10 and walk 30. Get up to 40 asap but dont hurt yourself and dont burn yourself out. Take it easy do what megan said and increase 30 seconds a day. Do whatever it takes but dont go on thinking 3 days a week at 20 minutes is going to do anything. Its better than nothing but its not the best. Nor are tredmills if you want a good work out join a martial art or go running in a safe area. Once that gets easy buy leg weights. It is good to work out after you do cardio but dont go crazy the cardio+sit ups is what will make your abs look freaking awesome. Try not to rely on pills, powders, bars, they cost a lot and you wont stick with them for your hole life. And if you do many of them can be dangerious. Just eat a lot of really healthy food. If you honestly eat healthy and a lot of it + work out like i said and still put on weight than e mail me and ill never speak again for the rest of my life, garanteeeeed.

P.S. Jump ropes are another great way to gain lower leg strength and do cardio at the same time.

With lots of love
Josh

First of all Josh, I'd like to congratulate you on your success. Losing weight isn't easy regardless of your methodology so, well done. Now, I'm afraid I have to disagree with a lot of what you said....not all of it, but a lot of it.

No, thats so that you can build lean muscle which, in turn will help to burn calories and increase your metabolism. Its a little harsh to tar all trainers with such a cynical brush

You contradicted yourself slightly here......don't give up eating ice cream but, stay away from sugar?!! And, saying that people should either eat less or workout more, not both is ridiculous. It depends entirely on their genetics, weight, diet etc. Its about lifestyle.

Again, it depends on a lot of factors but, if you are fully aware of your intake and what your body requires, you will see faster improvements. Its not silliness, its science.

I agree with a lot of what you said - eat healthy (ie. although, I wouldn't include ice-cream personally) and do cardio often. 500 situps won't help you lose weight to any huge degree, it isn't an aerobic excercise. I rather suspect that it was your diet and cardio that made the difference, not all the ab excercises.

I am pleased that that you saw so much progress from what you did but, its a little vague for my tastes. Eat healthy + more cardio I agree with, the rest seems rather subjective and non-specific.

sorry im tierd

I have been up a long time reading peoples posts. Its hard to write what i think and make it reasonable. Ill put it in a simple way to understand. Work out more = eat more = resluts. Eat good healthy food. Do cardio such as running + sit ups. If you want to have nice abs Its that simple. Do it for as long as it takes. Wont take long before you see resluts. But your right It is science and i know the scinece behind it and thats why its silly to work out more and eat less.

Sorry but i dont know. Im not going to go through all of the stuff i disagree with but i will say a little. To make it plain and simple, diet 1st, cardio 2nd and exercises 3rd.

Clean diet, good, cardio, yeah 40 mins a day is excellent, 500 situps, i dont agree with at all. Firstly sit ups destroy ur lower back, second they give you big hip flexors. Stick with crunches and a few other ab exercises and do them only 2-3 times a week no more.

But yes as has already been said, i am glad that you have had so much success with what you are doing, but i just dont think thats gonna work for most people, sorry. But congradulations. No hard feelings...

Diet then exercise...good luck to all who try that, you will need it. Im serious when i say work out and eat more healthy foods. I know what i said isnt a fad like the atkins diet or whatever is out there. Im telling you dieting and working out wont last, for long. Why do you think so many people come on here and ask why EVERYTHING they try dosnt work no mater how much caloires they count. People tell them to eat less they do, they say it dosnt work so people say eat more...well its either one or the other and if your going to work out dont eat less. Its not that hard this isnt as complicated as you make it. Unless someone comes on and says, "i at more and it was all healthy + i worked out and it didnt work" than dont come on and knock what i have proven to be effective.

Less muscle+cardio+proper diet>More muscle+caride+proper diet
1st Needs less calories^ /2nd Needs more calories to sustain the muscle

Bedsides i didnt mean for this to be a battle of how to lose weight. Do whatever you want. I was just tring to make a suggestion. If you want to have nice abs you just need to lose body fat + work out your abs. LOL i didnt mean for this to be so complicated.

You have proven something which has worked for you although, I suspect you may not have done it justice in your explanation. You mention 'dieting' rather than 'diet' - I don't agree with 'diets' of the fad variety either (see, we agree on something! ;) ) I'm talking about a diet which is healthy but, knowing its calorific content is also a part of it for me.

What Tim was saying when he said diet first is that abs are made in the kitchen rather than the gym - which is true. If I gorged myself on burgers and ice-cream, I wouldn't have much energy for lots of cardio or gym work but, even if I did, the high fat diet would see to it I never saw my abs. Yes, cardio is an essential part of getting your 6-pack, along with the right diet (not fad diet, eating pattern)

But, saying that diet and working out won't last simply isn't true. This is a fitness forum, full of people who eat healthy and who have been working out for many, many years. You are basing what you say soleley on your own experience and not taking into account other peoples experiences and how they have managed to see results.

This isn't a battle of anything, it is simply a difference of opinion - opinions are what forums are based on :D

Please don't take this as a personal affront, it isn't. I am genuinely pleased for you and I hope your success lasts a lifetime.

Its not complicated Josh, more people make it more complicated than it needs to be.

I really wish the word "diet" would be stricken from the english language. Nutrition is a better word.

Lets face it, different strokes for different folks here. What works for one person may not work for another.

Thank you chris you are very kind. Yeah i guess i did kidna base everything on what i have done....well everything lol but ya know what i hope everyone here does what they set out to do. When i said its impossible for someone to diet and workout i ment to eat less caloires then you use. Its impossible to eat less calories than you use everyday forever. Which is why i went a different route. But i guess that one worked for me. I would like to read up on some more facts if you or anyone else knows of any web sites or book that explain deeply on the science rather than theory of weight less i would really appreciate it.

I know my way isnt the only way i simply wanted to tell people how i did it so they could give it a try if they wanted.

/delte my first post

Just wanted to say that one must lose body fat % to be able to see their abs. + I added some personal stuff that i thought might give people something new to think about.
