how to keep my hourglass and lose fat?

:seeya: I'm new here and learned a lot of great things so far. I need specific advice for my goals.

5'4, 147 lbs
36-28-43
small/med build

I estimate my body fat to be about 30% and I want to get down to 20% while keeping my nearly hourglass/x shape figure. It might not sound hourglass, but those extra inches are in the booty. I have a naturally defined waist and already very developed quads, glutes, and abs. Around this shape I have extra cushioning :) What type of strength training would be good for me to add to my routine and how often? I do not want larger quads, glutes, or abs! Last week I started treadmill interval workouts (not quite HIIT, more moderate) for 4 days/week. Do I incorporate strength training? What advice do you have for me?

Again my goal is to drop fat and keep a soft curvy shape that's more defined overall. The type of look I'm going for (essentially a leaner version of me):

I love my body but want to be healthier and fit! Please help! :)
Thanks for reading!

Unfortunately no one can tell you how to lose from one area of your body and gain in another. It just doesn't work that way. Your body will lose where it loses and recompose where it will recompose.

The healthiest way to lose is going to be to do some combination of weights and cardio (and real weights, not baby weights for a zillion reps). The weights will help you maintain lean muscle, the cardio will help you burn fat. Both will burn calories which will help with the overall weight loss.

And then, of course, eating a healthy diet - for you about 1500 calories or so, with a good proportion of carbs/protein/fats.

Thanks for your reply and advice. I'm not looking to lose in specific areas and not in others. I'm just not looking to bulk up specific areas. I'm aware of the body fat loss myths :)

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you're asking for then. :)

You asked how you can lose fat and still keep a certain shape and the answer remains the same: there's no way to tell you how to do that because it doesn't work that way. You could lose weight and keep the same hourglass figure, or you could lose from your hips and bust first, or you could lose in another way overall. You just have to be healthy and let your body do what it's going to do. :)

Oh I see what you're saying now! Well I've read in a lot of places that your body shape and proportions are not going to dramatically transform unless you get into heavier weight training and fitness body fat levels. But I understand what you mean, thank you for explaining.
