How to exercise with a Smith machine

After using the RitKeep PMAX-5600 Smith Machine for over three months, I can confidently say it has completely reshaped my home workout routine. As someone who trains 4–5 times a week, I needed a compact yet versatile setup—and this machine has exceeded expectations. Here's a breakdown of the exercises I do with it and why it's become the centerpiece of my training.

1. Smith Machine Squats
Let’s start with the obvious: squats. With the PMAX-5600’s ultra-smooth linear bearings and guided motion, I feel more stable and confident when lifting heavy. The machine allows me to push myself harder without worrying about losing balance. I also appreciate the multiple safety lockouts—it’s great for solo training.

2. Bench Press (Flat, Incline, Decline)
Using a separate adjustable bench with the Smith track, I can perform flat, incline, and decline bench presses easily. The counterbalanced bar makes warm-ups smoother, and the safety catches provide reassurance when I’m training without a spotter. Whether it’s chest day or accessory push work, the setup is seamless.

3. Lunges & Split Squats
I didn’t expect to love Bulgarian split squats on a Smith machine, but with the PMAX-5600, it’s actually a game-changer. The fixed path helps with form and stability, especially during higher-rep leg work. I also use it for reverse lunges when I want to isolate my glutes and hamstrings more precisely.

4. Shoulder Press & Upright Rows
Whether seated or standing, shoulder presses feel smooth and powerful with the Smith bar. I also incorporate upright rows and shrugs, and the machine’s range of motion keeps everything in control. It’s also easy to switch from one movement to another without needing to reconfigure anything.

5. Cable Exercises (Thanks to the Built-In Pulley System)
What really elevates the PMAX-5600 is the integrated dual pulley system. I regularly use it for:
  • Lat pulldowns
  • Triceps pushdowns
  • Cable rows
  • Face pulls
  • Biceps curls
The weight stack is smooth and easy to adjust, and it truly expands the number of workouts you can do from one compact unit.

After 3 months of consistent use, I can say that the PMAX-5600 Smith Machine is an all-in-one solution for serious home training. Whether you’re a beginner or intermediate lifter, or even an experienced gym-goer building your home setup, this machine offers incredible versatility, safety, and durability.

It comfortably covers the majority of my day-to-day training needs, from strength movements to accessory work and cable exercises. If you're on the fence about investing in a full-featured Smith machine, this model is absolutely worth considering.

If anyone has questions about training with the PMAX-5600 or how to get the most out of it, feel free to leave a comment—I'd be more than happy to share my experience!
