How tired should you be post workout?!

Hi,

I was just wondering how tired everyone is just after a workout?..

I ask because I've switched recently from doing a FBW which consisted of around 10-12 exercises ending with pressups/situps to faliure TO another FBW which has only about 7/8 exercises, still has the same big 4/5 exercises and a couple of iso's.. BUT because it has less exercises overall, and I don't end it with any 'to faliure' stuff, I'm ending the workout feeling pretty energised..

With the older one I was SO tired after a workout I would sometimes just collapse on the floor for a few seconds and even after that I felt kinda light on my feet and it took about half an hour or so before I felt re-energised.. With the newer one I definitely feel like I've done a workout, but its just that I still have some energy..

Is there a correct level of intensity you should aim for? Or is it just a case of you should make sure form is good and you can do the exercises and ignoring intensity?..

Thanks!!

Well, I don't know your set rep and break ranges so I'm not exactly sure. Doing things to failure isn't always best for developement.

On 5x5 day 90 second break, I'm not very tired after the workout. This isn't to say I didn't work my ass off for every rep, it's just that I got a longer break, and since I tihnk I have more fast track muscles than low track, I have an easier time with low rep high weight.

On 3x15 day 30 second break. I feel like I'm gonna faint sometimes and I have difficulty working the clutch on my car let alone walk.

On 4x10 day, it's inbetween.

interesting..

thanks for the reply.. see, thats pretty interesting cuz even though the newer workout I was doing wasn't tiring me out as much as the old one, it DID still feel like a good n productive workout.. so you may have a point with that, intensity isn't always the be all and end all i think..

btw atm im not really muddling sets/reps up, i WANT to and will the next time i shake up my routine but im not doing it just yet.. so its basically 3x8 on pretty much everything with 40-60 second breaks - more like 40 seconds as i tend to recover/move through the sets pretty fast

anyway thanks, and im hoping some more people will do some quick-posts n put their own thoughts down!!..

I think training to failure will burn you out and not yield as much progress as ending the set when you think you can do one or two more.
