how should I be eating?

Hey guys, I appreciacte any input here.

I'm a 19 year old male, about 5'11", 140lbs. I've always been rather skinny and slim looking. About 2 months ago I started a pretty decent workout regimen that I do every Mon/Wed/Fri, something to do before I head out to work.

I feel good about the workout itself, as I'm slowly seeing results starting to form.

To keep going with this good progress, I'd like to get some input on how I should be eating.

I don't go out of my way at all to eat more/eat more food with more protein/etc...

An average day would be me having some eggs/toast for breakfast, probably some leftover stuff for lunch (macaroni maybe, chinese food, etc), then usually something "big" for dinner (big chicken dinner, for example). Then of course I'd have a snack at night while I'm watching TV or something, cookies or ice cream.

So, that's about it. I have loads of questions I just can't seem to formulate, so I'll just keep it to myself for the time being.

Any suggestions on what would be a beneficial diet for my situation (bulk up/build muscle) would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Depending on what your objective is will have a pretty big influence on yoru diet. Are you looking to add muscle? loose weight? maintain what you have while becoming fitter?

As mick G said, 5/6 meals a day is a good start. Ensure you have enough protein in your diet (anywhere between 1-1.5gs per lb of body weight). Carbs should come from LOW GI sources such as oats, sweet potato etc. You can include some high GI food after your workouts with some protein.

If your looking to gain some muscle, find out what your BMR (base metabolic rate) there are plenty of calculators online. Add calories for the type of job (manual desk etc) then to build osme muscle add 300-500 cals per day, monitor your weight over a few weeks and make any changes from there......if your not gaining then increase cals and agian if your adding a lil too much fat then decrease the cals.

Dont forget to include fats into your diet.....not the bad kind......you need essential fats, and adding a little olive oil to protein shakes will help keep you full for longer.
