Personally, I'm amused at the futility of your attempts, but I hope txsqlchick doesn't mistakenly take that as laughing at her expense. Quite frankly, I think she's winning the trade here because you're showing yourself incapable (more than likely unwilling) of adjusting your message to your audience.

No, no, I should really assume it's option 1. Allow me to explain where you erred:

Premise 1: How a person feels about the truth is at all relevant to the inevitability of its transmission.
Premise 2: "Seeming" and "being" have the same meaning.
Premise 3: "Incapable" and "unwilling" have the same meaning.
Premise 4: The burden of successful transmission is on the communicant.
Premise 5: "Audient" and "audience" have the same meaning.
Premise 6: You are even ballpark of being capable of condescending to me.

I hope this helps. Sadly, you probably think I am 'losing this trade', too. Maybe one day you'll be smarter and know more and not embarrass yourself unnecessarily. =)

Like I was alluding to, and it's my fault for not making it clear, you're obviously right, but she's not interested in hearing it. So, I'm sitting here laughing because it's like you're arguing with a brick wall. Although the brick wall will never win, it's also incapable of losing.

PS: Incapable and unwilling do not have the same meaning. Incapable means you don't have the ability, unwilling means you have the ability but choose not to use it.

Regardless, you're still exhibiting a compulsive behaviour by weighing yourself everyday. Which, by definition, as focus said, is crazy. That's fine if you don't want to admit that its crazy, but that doesn't change the fact that it is. And if that works for you, great, more power to you.

Anyway, as should be obvious to most, I only clown for my own amusement. And the possible edification of others. How people choose to interpret what I say and do is of very little consequence. What they might opine on the subject even less so. Which is my way of saying I'm not at all upset. Imo we are throwing salami at each other in the cafeteria to help pass the time until Ms. Purdy's sex ed class. :D

Damn that Ms. Purdy is fine. I wish I was old enough to give her some private lessons, yknow. Sadly, my junk doesn't work yet. :(

That's not my opinion. You're the one that stressed you need to weigh yourself everyday. It's irrational to weigh yourself everyday for all the reasons outlined in the thread The Scale Mentality. Having a need to do something irrational, regardless of anyone's opinion, is compulsive.

You're assuming that my "need" to weigh every day is a compulsion. If you'd read what I posted here about it, it's more of a process of getting to know my body and its fluctuations.

Get off my case.

Are you charting the fluctuations? What do you do when there is a major fluctuation in your weight? Are you measuring fluctuations in BP, Ketones in Urine, BMI, Blood glucose levels, etc.?
 
Has anyone heard of the Weight Loss Registry?

They have a take on this.

It is a program started by a research group at Brown University. It is essentially a registry of people who have had weight loss success.

I had a chance to meet a member of this group and she said one of of things most strongly correlated with weight success was weighing yourself regularly (not necessarily everyday).

So there is definitely some evidence to support it, although more than 5x a week may be excessive.

I think it's a no brainer... people who become more cognizant and concerned about their weight will trend towards better weight loss and maintenance.

That said, having worked hands on with a large number of people with weight loss on an individual basis, in my experience, scale obsession tends to be quite common and really interferes with people's happiness and sanity.

It's just another metric that needs to be understood and applied properly.
 
Why are people arguing in this thread? How rude when someone asks a question that people can be so self absorbed. Continue your bickering in a pm.

Weigh yourself whenever you want. Do whatever helps. I don't even see the point in scales, don't own one and never will. But i certainly don't go putting people down who weigh themselves daily, weekly or whatever. I actually have better ways to spend my time than looking for arguments on an internet forum.
