How often should I weigh myself?

When I did weight watchers a while back, I remember that you were only supposed to weigh yourself once a week. I am still in this habbit; however, I feel like in the space of a week I could really get off track and not even realize it. How often do you guys weigh yourselves?

I think it is just a matter of personal preference. I know some people weigh themselves every day, or even multiple times a day, but that would drive me crazy! I would be obessing over every fluctuation in the numbers!

I am currently maintaining a 40 pound loss, and I weigh myself twice a week, every Sunday and Thursday. I feel this is often enough to get a good look at what is happening to my body. If it goes up out of my safe zone, I can take measures to correct that. This seems to work for me, anyway!

Loads of experts say that we should only weigh ourselves once a week - but that would drive me crazy. I am much happier to weigh myself every day and know where I stand.

I have got used to how my body fluctuates from day to day - and know some of the things that make me go up. I am actually much happier to hop onto the scales and see what they say.

It wouldnt suit everyone - but it is what is best for me...

I weigh every day for the same reasons that Omega does. I like knowing how my body responds day to day.

But I only do it once a day, first thing in the morning, before I get dressed.

I only weight myself once a week, at my TOPS meeting.
Sometimes it's difficult not knowing how I'm doing on a day-by-day basis... but I also think I'd obsess over it too much. Also, it motivates me not knowing if certain things (like those 2 slices of pizza) made me go up, so I just make sure to go for an extra walk or something.
I don't even own a scale, so I can't weigh myself at home haha

So yeah... seems like whatever works for you is best ^_^

I do it daily, enter it into a graph, and then keep track of my overall loss/gains.

Oh yes - I do mine under identical circumstances every day. I even wear exactly the same pair of shorts for the weighing and position the scales in the identical spot (lined with the tiles of my bathroom floor).

I record it in a spreadsheet that has my weighings for my entire project (2.5 years) and in it I also track things like exercise and meals so that I can spot foods that seem to help me lose or make me gain.

That's funny! I do the exact same thing ... the scale has to be square in the middle of one particular tile in the bathroom. :D

I always weigh right out of the shower, so I'm not wearing anything. I've become a creature of habit: get up, brush my teeth, shower, dry off, weigh, get dressed. If I don't do it in exactly that order, my whole morning is thrown out of whack!

I have noticed that my scale can vary depending on the area of the floor its on so if anyone moves it from its 'home', I scowl.

Does anyone else do this?...I have a digital scale, it can be kind of sensitive and prone to different reading, and when I weigh, I keep getting off and on it until I get the same readout 3 times! Then that reading is my "official" weight for the day! Gosh, is that OCD or what!!?

Ha I do the same thing! There can be a difference of a pound of two if I reposition the scale to a different part of the floor! Crazy!

Thanks for the feedback everyone :). Its hard because I don't want to obsess about it too much, but at the same time its really discouraging when you think you've had a good week and then you get on the scale and realize you've gained a pound or two. I think I'll try doing it daily and if I find myself getting too obsessive I'll cut back.

Just out of curiosity, do you guys use excell to create your spreadsheets and graphs or do you do it another way?

I don't think so. You need a consistent reading, right?

I just recently purchased a scale (previously I was going ot the doctor's office once a week to use theirs), and I keep moving it around to different spots on the floor until I get three consistent readings.

I admit that, now that I have one in my house, I am weighing myself every day. I knew I would get obsessed, and I am. It's stupid.

And I use it at the same time every morning - after bathroom but before getting dressed.

I weigh myself multiple times a day. I don't really obsess about the reading because I know that the number can fulgurate a few pounds throughout the day. I consider my morning weigh in, just before getting dressed, to be my "official" weight. I have a digital scale and I get on and off a few times each time I weigh myself to try to get a consistent reading.

I had an Excel spreadsheet that I used to graph my progress when I was losing weight last year. Now I'm mostly trying to maintain the loss while maybe losing a few more pounds. The graph is pretty easy to set up. If anyone would like to use the Excel file that I used, let me know and I will attach it to this thread.

Attached is a screenshot of the Excel graph of my actual weight loss progress from 21 April to 22 June of 2008. Each dot is a daily weigh in.

When I weigh myself I get on and off until I have the same reading three times too. That way I know that it is not just a fluke. I dont think that it is OCD. I think that some people would think that my focus on weight loss was OCD - but a little obsession does help us get good results. If some of us had got obsessive about our weight on the way up - maybe we wouldnt have gone up so far... I would hate to lose my level of focus (which many would term obsession).

I use excel for my spreadsheet.

I do it however often I remember... usually 1-2x per week. But I always weigh myself at the same time of day - first thing when I've gotten up, after I've gone to the bathroom but before I've eaten, showered, and gotten dressed so that it doesn't depend on how much I've eaten, how much water I've retained, If I'm wearing heavy jeans and a sweater or a t-shirt and shorts :p

Seems I'm doing pretty much the same thing as a bunch of you's :)
