How often do you buy clothes?

How often do you buy new clothes? During your weight-loss journey it’s obvious that parts of your body will be shrinking. I find that my clothes don’t fit the same as they used to. As a student every year I go back to school shopping but this year I’m sort of hesitant because when I’m going to be shedding those pounds I don’t want to buy clothes that I’m only going to be wearing for a couple of weeks. I’m sort of lost and don’t know what to do. Any suggestion or tips?

This question gets asked frequently -searching might give you some answers..

but - tailors are affordable -if ythere are clothes you like have them taken in.
second hand shops/thrift stores/consignment shots/freecycle/craigs list/friends - aquantances/clearance racks are all options.

Most people have more success with weight loss if their clothes fit their current body - don't wait til you get to a mythical size you might never get to- dress your current body - if your clothes are too big for you - it's too easy an excuse to not stay on track because youve got a wardrobe that fits.

be creative...

All I can say from experience is DO NOT BUY A LOT OF CLOTHES..hahah I went all out one year and bought 300 dollars worth of clothes..guess what I wore them for 3 MONTHS! Some of which I DIDNT EVEN GET TO WEAR!
I realized how stupid that was..I guess I just assumed I wasnt goign to lose any more weight.
I just would buy a couple of good clearance jeans knowing that they will not fit long haha

I buy a few shirts and pants every now and then! Always from 70% clearance rack though(Belk, I think it is or Bealls) ! I outgrow them fast :D

I held on to a few things from my previous thinner days that I was able to start wearing again... shopping in my own closet. Then I got too small for most of those jeans. Some of my skirts I was able to modify to where I can still wear them. I did need to get new bras and underwear though. I need to get new bras again. Good thing I didn't spend too much on the other ones.

I've bought a couple new pairs of pants. One new pair of Carhartts for wearing while I'm in my welding class, and I found an almost perfect, but perfectly broken in pair of 501s at a second hand store the other day that almost fit perfectly. By the time I reach goal, they will.

The thing I REALLY needed to get more of was workout clothes. Everything was getting uncomfortably baggy. Found some great yoga pants that are functional AND flattering.

I'm just filling in new pieces as budget allows.

Having gone from UK size 32 to size 10 trousers, 12 in tops - I can say that it has been a good idea to buy an interim wardrobe and wear clothes that keep fitting. It helps you to keep motivated if you feel you look good in each size and get compliments from people about how much slimmer you look.

There has been times when it has seemed like I have changed clothes size every month - so it wasnt worth buying too many things in each size.

Mal has given some great advice. Charity shops are full of some great quality clothes - we know that they are great quality because whoever got our old clothes got a real bargain. Some people do not like the idea of buying clothes there - but no-one knows where you bought something unless you tell them.

Supermarkets also sell clothes really cheaply.

I have kept a few of my big clothes in order to be able to see how big I was so that I cannot deny this to myself. I have also kept a few of my favourite dresses with the intentiton of using the material for needlework projects in the future. I figure that I ought to be able to make a thin person's dress out of the material from a very big dress.

Clothes that I found around the house from when I was on the way up have been very useful too. Each item has been like seeing an old friend.

I'm keeping the pants I'm holding in my avatar pic to serve as a reminder. Besides, I may need to create a sail for a boat or something eventually. :biggrinjester:

I wish I was smarter a while ago. I bought some clothes and because I wore them once or twice my mom's been on my case about wasting money on clothes that I hardly wear.

Thanks for all the tips..they really helped.

I don't buy expensive clothing.

I only buy new clothes when necessary (something rips or wears through), or because it's much too large/small to wear anymore.

Right now I'm wearing a new pair of pants because my other work pants made me look like MC Hammer. But I only bought the ONE pair. They didn't have any others in my size.

HAHA omg.. sorry but that was a funny joke.. Jeez..yeah I WISH I WOULD HAVE KEPT MY START JEANS! beucase no matter what size you are you always have those favorite jeans..and I wish I would have kept mine for a reminder.. =/ haha

if your going to be losing a lot more weight then hold off on a lot of things and buy stuff you can adjust.

Or if your closer to your weight just buy stuff anyways. Like I just bought a pair of size 36 jeans cause I know at my goal i'll only be a 34 so they will still fit with a belt.

I love to shop so I usually buy my clothes either a size too small or a size where I can *just* squeeze into them. This way I'm always motivated to lose weight in order to fit into my clothes and I have them longer.

second hand stores. freecycle. elastic waists!!! buy things that are a little snug, then you can wear them longer as you shrink.

I used to barely buy clothes - but then I got hooked on ebay. For me personally it feels good to wear nice clothes - even if they are HUGE lol.

I am all about having a positive outlook on life and dressing well helps me with that.

heh, every time I go down a size I have to buy new uniform pants because I hate belts :D
But compared to how much money I used to spend on food - mostly fast food places, I think I'm actually still saving money.
...Buying new clothes is like a little treat to me

yep, I do this too, especially if I'm just going into a season for example I'm about to go into winter season and 14's fit me perfectly or snug depending on who makes them. All my 16's are ridiculously baggy and they were capris so I'll be retiring those soon and should get enough wear for next month out of the size 14 capris. I'm buying size 12's right now for winter(I have a few 14's also in longer pants so I'll be fine in the interim). I think 10 is pushing it so if I get there before season's end, I'll add a few of those from the thrift store(and it's possible...doesn't warm up to spring here until April usually). I'm hoping and looking forward to the idea that when I buy clothes for next summer, they will be keepers and I things I can wear the next year! I'm keeping a few pieces I really like also so I can have them adjusted next spring to whatever size I am. I don't plan to get below a size 8 so we'll see.

Right before I lost my initial weight (unexpected, I made some life changes I guess you say but they weren't conscious decisions) I had just bought a bunch of new clothes and though it seemed alot quicker than it probably actually was they became very tent-like on me.

I do have this one pair of jeans that I absolutely love, and I wore them far longer than I should have (with a belt part of the waist would fold over when I cinched it). That was how I realized I lost weight initially. I thought people asking me if I lost weight was because I trimmed my beard or it was just the shirt I was wearing that day.

They are going to be the jeans I put on to showcase my weight loss in after pictures (at 199 and 160).

I have bought 2 shirts that are too small for me that I plan to use my motivation, and when I can fit in them I'll buy two more (t-shirts from threadless.com, so they are cheap but its still a nice treat.)

I have to dress professionally where I work so what I've been doing is buying one pair of black slacks and one pair of brown slacks every time I need to go down one size because I know that soon I will just have to buy more!
