How Often Can I Cut Loose?

Okay First off I am 18... I did P90x, and during the 90 days I was on a strict diet the whole time, and after I finished I had one day where I ate anything I wanted and howerever much I wanted, Literally had a jar of Peanut butter in one hand, with cookies, chocolates, and Pizza in the other for basically the whole day. I went all out. The next day I returned to my normal healthy diet, and I started Insanity the following week. Well I am about to start my second month of Insanity, and Im wondering if its okay to go all out for a whole day like that again when I finish. I dont want my results to be effected, because at the rate Im at I should have my long wanted 6-pack after I finish Insanity. If I get my Abs showing the way I want, I never want that to go away, EVER! I plan on maintaining the same healthy diet after Insanity, mabey a little more leaniant because right now I am really hardcore. And will probably do a Fusion of Insanity, and P90x. I wanted to know how often would it be okay to have one of those days where I eat literally everything I want and however much I want without it effecting my hard work. Is it even okay to eat like that for a whole day? I just wouldnt want to unknowingly ruin my hard work.

No one can answer that. You will have to learn yourself.

What does "everything" mean? I will have a cheat day occasionally. Maybe 1 day a week but it usually just consists of an extra 1k callories or so. Thats not really gonna effect anything.

If you have in your head that thi is an "anything" day tho. That can really get up to5k+ a day and then it gets a lil harder to overcome.

I prefer cheat meals to cheat days.

The exception would be if you are really blasting out the work. Some athletes need 7-10k a day just to maintain. I doubt you are there yet tho.

I would say:
Cheat meal as much as twice a week.

Cheat day once a month or biweekly at most.

I'd say one day wont effect it. If you can not do it the next day. I did that once, weeks ago, and now I can't stop. I'm doing that everyday now for I think 3 wells now. I'm still exercising but I'm way overeating and I hate it! I can't stop it, I need help, I need to choose a better plan. Go ahead and do it, I see you have great self control, I don't so much.

Yea see because I dont have cheat days for months at a time, When I start programs, especially one as extreme as Insanity, I go months at a time without anything relatively unhealthy, the worst thing I eat is peanut butter, only cause it has good fat in it. Even then Its one serving.

See I go harcore for months at a time, I dont have cheat days or meal until I finish what I started, which usually takes 2-3 months, and at the end of it all I just want to go nuts haha. For one day, but after that its out of my system for a while.

Oh. Well in that case, of course you wont undo 3mo+ of work in 1 day. Even if its a 10k+ day.

Okay, thanks for the replies, I just tend to go all or nothing with these type of things, and with the possiblility of getting my 6-pack at the end of this, makes me want to be extra sure. haha Not to mention, I finish about a week before my Birthday, so I will wait till my birthday to have my binge day.

I'd be more concerned with pissing off your stomach doing that to yourself. The point of a healthier life isn't to feel deprived all the time, its supposed to be a life time change you can live with. Gorging yourself for a whole day because you "deserve" it is more a dangerous habit than anything else, and part of the mindset a lot of people here are striving to break out of. Personally I think you're better off with -smaller- allowances of foods you crave more -often-, not stuffing yourself for an entire day.

Been thinking a lot about that, and you guys are right. I'm just one of those people who gets obsessive, and takes it a little too far sometimes, thanks for helping me see the truth. I dodged a bullet there haha! :iagree:

Yeah, I agree with kellylmt on that. It's kind of dangerous, in a lot of ways, to think you can never have a treat, then go crazy all in one day. It's not a healthy way of looking at it. Have a treat once in a while, heck even several times a week, just watch the calories.

other than that for example if you do low fat for a long time, then stuff your stomach full of fatty food, your gall bladder, liver, and digestive tract (HINT HINT) will be very pissed off at you. Trust me.

No joke, Im so used to my diet as it is right now, because of the fact that it really doesnt bother me that I healthy all the time too much. So My biggest challeng is easing my way back into normal eating. And what I mean by that is what I should allow, and how often. I am just happy today because I check my progress today, I am half way done with Insanity, and I lost 5 more pounds, that I didnt need to loose.(Was alreay at target wieght) But I also compared myself today, to myself 31 days ago, and My abs are definately getting to the shape I want. I can see my pack, and its definately there. Just a little bit of work left. and I think another month of Max Interval Training with Shawn T will get me where I wanna be. :coolgleamA:

Everyone's body reacts differently, so there's no right or wrong answer here. What I can tell you is what works for me and then let you take it as you may...

During the weekdays, I watch what I eat. I watch my caloric intake and I try to eat as healthy as possible. In all honesty, I eat what I want (McDonald's, pizza, bacon, whatever), but I just make sure to not overdo it. And, I make sure to watch my calories, no matter what I eat. Also, during the weekdays, I drink water and nothing else.

Also, during the weekdays, I get on the treadmill every day and lift weights routinely.

On the weekends, it's a different story. I don't exercise, I don't lift weights and I certainly don't care what I eat. Do I sit there and make it point to TRY and eat a whole sheet cake for a meal? No. Mostly because I don't like cake. HAHAHA, but seriously though, I eat what I want on the weekends. I don't calorie count - I eat what I want. But, I just don't overdo it. I won't sit there and stuff myself full of so much shitty food that it makes me want to puke. But, if I want to eat like 3 or 4 pieces of sausage and pepperoni pizza one night, then I'll sit there and eat my pizza. It's not going to undo everything you've done during the week, as long as you stay consistent with what you're doing.

In the past 4 weeks, I've lost about 12 lbs doing that. My weekends don't ruin my weight loss. So, don't be TOO worried about taking days off every once in a while. Just don't take like 5 days off a week and expect to lose a bunch of weight, you know? Just stay consistent with eating well and working out...and you'll be fine.
