How Much Weight To lose in a Week?

Does anybody have a clue how much there is possible to lose in a week, and what is recommended from a healthy standpoint?

The experts say a safe rate of loss is 1% per week. So, for example, if you weighed 200 pounds, you would want to lose approximately 2 pounds per week. Make sense?

In most situations I use the above rule of thumb - 1% of BW each week. Some weeks will be more, some less. But the trend, if things are structured properly, should come out to be 1% per week in most situations.

Ok, that make sense from a healthy standpoint . But how much is it possible to lose weight without starving in 7 days? I'm just curious;-)

That's not a question it's possible to answer.

It depends on the person.
It depends on whether they're being healthy or unhealthy.
It depends on whether you're talking about fat loss only or total weight loss (which can include water weight and lean muscle mass).
It depends on the type and amount of exercise the person in question is doing.
It depends on how much fat they have to lose to begin with (For example, it's possible for a 400 lbs person to healthily lose 10-15 lbs during the first week because of dramatic changes, water weight, etc. But it would be nearly impossible for a 150 lb person to lose that same amount even at the beginning of a diet.)

So what you're asking is a question that can't be answered.

Yea, I'm with Kara. If you absolutely needed an answer, I'd say something like Lyle McDonald's rapid fat loss diet would be ideal. That's where you're eating nothing but enough protein to promote lean tissue maintenance, an abundance of fibrous, nutrient dense veggies and some fish oil pills.

Basically a short term diet that has a huge calorie deficit while maintaining as much nutrition as possible.
