How much weight loss each month is normal?

So this question is mostly for those out there who have lost 40 pounds or more. I was wondering what everyone else experienced because I am going to be at 2 months tomorrow and I've already lost 30 pounds. I have heard that 30 pounds in 8 weeks is not typical- but is it not typical in general or just not typical for people who don't have a lot of weight to lose?

Just curious to see how everyone else has done, so if you're not afraid to post it, I'd like to know how much weight all of you lost in the first 5 months, and if you know, how many pounds per month? Thanks! :)

Depends on a lot of factors -there really is no normal

What your starting weight was
What your age/gender is
What your diet was like before you started losing weight (if you went from eating all crap all the time, to healthier options you will shed more at the beginning than the closer you get to goal)

1 percent a week is a good aim to shoot for -but it can't be said often enough- don't obsess over the scale number it's just a number -go by measurements, what you see in themirror, pictures, how you're feeling, fitness levels...the important stuff...

My starting weight was almost 400lbs - I lost a very steady 3lbs -4lbs a week for the first 9 months... i never had that huge initial drop that a lot of people experience because, it my opinion, I didn't have a diet of fast food, and processed foods.. I ate "healthy" foods, just too much of them

I actually like taking measurements more because I agree that focusing on only the pounds can lead to trouble. I only weigh myself once a week and actualy focus much more on how many inches I've lost rather than pounds. Besides, the measurements give me a better sense of "shrinking" so to speak, and I like those results a whole lot more. I use the pounds more as a "loose" guideline, especially since I've been adding resistance training over the last few weeks and that can build muscle which can make the scale much less friendly...

Thanks for posting your stats. :)
