Just curious really as i get roughly 7 hours sleep through the week, and most people suggest 8-10 hours for optimum training.

So does that mean if i got an extra couple of hours i would be able to train that bit better and lift that bit heavier?

:D:) :D:)

I get 8 but could do with more. My plan for getting up at 5.30 in future will have a serious negative impact on my sleep :(. I'm gonna have to start going to bed at about 10

11PM to 6AM every day except Sunday when I sleep as late as I can...but since I have little kids that's only about 8AM.

I've heard more than 8 hours is overkill

It means that, more than likely, you will recover faster from your workouts. Having a HUGE benefit over time.

Me and goergen, reppin' the 9'ers. Yea yea, boi.

Sleep is good... supposedly. At one point in my life I was convinced it was a vestigial behavioral thing. I averaged an hour a day for weeks at a time. Then again, I was also fat(ter) and unhealthy. I know I definitely train better when I get lots of sleep.

During the week I average about seven per night. For those of you who claim you get eight hours, keep in mind that it doesn't count if you're as long as you're in bed. You need eight hours of ACTUAL sleep.

I really wanna be aiming for at least 8 hours a night, sometimes i do. But the more i think about getting to sleep the more i cant get to sleep.

Also i dont think it helps when im having a high energy caffiene drink before my workouts on an evening!

I fall asleep within moments of actually getting into bed (with the intention of sleeping), and stay in dreamless sleep until I wake up, usually either exactly 8 or exactly 9 hours later.

The question wasn't how many hours do you spend in bed on average, was it? 'Cause I'd have to say a lot more than 9. ;)

I go to bed at 11pm and get up at 7am, however, I often don't fall asleep until it's like 12-1am :(

That means you are going to bed too son. Try going to be when you are tired enough to fall asleep in under 15 minutes, instead. You will spend less time there, and feel more rested. Unless you have some sort of sleeping disorder.

Or are you complaining that all the sex cuts into your rest? Haha.

well I wake up at 7am dead tired. so shouldn't my body want to fall asleep at such a time that it will be rested when I wake up?
Sometimes I'm tired and all but still can't sleep. Too many things going through my mind I guess. It's been this way my entire life.

There can be an adjustment period where you're not getting enough sleep for a while before your circadian rhythm sorts itself. You have to be consistent. Not in when you sleep, but when you wake up. If you already are, well, it's probably something else.

There are a lot of different things you can try to to improve your sleeping habits. I'd say look to your diet and nutrition first, but yeah. :p I assume you know to be getting enough zinc and magnesium, and maybe some melatonin if that helps.

What do you do in the 90-120 minutes before bed? You want to be doing something relaxing and/or boring.

Do you sleep in a warm room? (Cool and lots of blankets is better)

The way I know I'm ready for bed is I read, and when I start to lose my concentration and feel a sort of dull heaviness in my head, it's sleepy time.

One thing I think may be very helpful for you is to write it all down. All the stuff going through your mind, I mean. Maybe make a journal, or a "to do" list, or even set goals, to clear your head of concerns and/or worries. (Then address them the next day, once you are rested).

Anyway, there are lots of resources out there, check some of them out. Sleep is vital!

I guess weekends could be ruining it for me? as I then get up maybe at 10-11am.
The problem is. if I go to bed at 1am, I'm afraid I'll just lie awake until 3am..
